My video you are reacting to here mate, so nice one. I notice you put your own music over the top but I hope when you were watching you had the original music, because I take a lot of time syncing the clips. But nice reaction! I can see why you'd be intrigued as a lacrosse guy. I am sure by now you'll have looked up the rules but the main to know is that you can catch it and carry the ball (a sliotar as it is called in Irish, pronounced like shlit-er) in your hand, but only for four steps. Think of travelling in basketball. After that you have to transfer the ball to your stick (we call it a hurl, or hurley depending on which part of the country your in) which is why you'll see them balancing it. You can only transfer back to your hand one more time after that and then you need to get rid of it. You also can't throw the ball like a baseball or whatever, it has to be a slap with the palm (known as a hand-pass). As you can see this makes the game extremely faced paced, it's known as the fastest game on grass. I recommend you check out my part three video - kzread.info/dash/bejne/c2tnssqCnpy_hto.html But even better might be to check out some full match clips. Here's a good shortish clip, last 5 minutes of the 2014 All-Ireland Final - kzread.info/dash/bejne/aod-ys2ylJC-iNY.html

Maybe one day the GAA will recognise your efforts and maybe get you on board in a partnership to do promotional or educational videos. Your efforts are much appreciated by many in Ireland so keep up the great work. 🇮🇪👍

One of the best things about hurling in my opinion is it is unprofessional 99% of the time you play for where you grew up, top players play an intense game on a Sunday and still go to work the next morning. People play purely for the love of the game.

I grew up in Canada, and one of my friends was massive into Lacrosse, and he used to describe it as the fastest field sport in the world. I always argued with him that Hurling was much faster. Well about 4 months after we had this argument, the main canadian sports network, TSN showed the All-Ireland Hurling final, and he phoned me up to concede the debate lol. One very strong contending theory for the origins of Ice hockey, is that it developed from Irish and Scottish Immigrants to Canada adapting their sport to the Canadian winter. The Scottish version of Hurling is known as Shinty, and to this day in Canada Shinny is slang for a pick up game of hockey. One video that explains the rules well, though does butcher some of the pronounciations of some of the Irish words is this one. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lJ16xcmOcpyentY.html Another Irish sport you should check out is Gaelic Football. Similar to hurling in many ways but involves a round football kzread.info/dash/bejne/lmRtrLl-Yau2crQ.html

I love watching people from other countries watching GAA for the first time. They can't believe the skill, pace and the fact they can beat the shit out of each within reason.
Hey man, I am also a former lacrosse player and I reacted just about in the same way as you did. Picking up a hurl and silotar and hitting, passing, and so on, is amazing and you owe it to yourself to try it at least once. There are teams all over the world, and the equipment is cheap!
Scotland play a similar game called Shinty. Occasionally Ireland and Scotland play each other in a Hurling/Shinty Hybrid rules game. Ireland also play Australia in a Aussie Rules/Gaelic Football Hybrid tournament as well, which is known as the International Rules series
@niallocallanain3579

Shinty was like Winter hurling but the GAA founders favored the Summer game and Winter or Ground hurling eventually died out or was amalgamated as hurling. In the Isle of Man a similar game called Camog is played.

True but today Hurling is a far bigger more professional sport with crowds up to 83,000. When Ireland play Scotland, they mostly choose players from lower leagues to keep it competitive because elite hurlers are serious athletes unlike in shinty.

Fastest game on grass, fact! Greetings from Galway Ireland where we are fanatical about Hurling!
Hurling dates all the way back to the legend of Setanta and Cu Culán, it's one of Ireland's most famous legends and we learn it in school! In Ireland the biggest hurling rivals are counties Tipperary and Kilkenny, you should definitely watch the highlights on one of the matches, in all Ireland finals it's usually those two counties who are against each other

I am Irish and i am from Limerick (which is in Ireland). At the time I am writting this comment it is 4 days before the all Ireland final where Limerick is playing Waterford. It comes from Ireland, but some places in America do play it, but mostly in Ireland, over 2000 years of history in it.
Cú Chulainn 🇮🇪 *Clash Of The Ash* 🇮🇪 Interesting facts - London won the All-Ireland Hurling Championship in 1901. Also New York(The Exiles) play in the GAA Championship. Both Hurling and Gaelic Football played there. Their home ground is Gaelic Park and its every Irish Countys dream to draw against them as its like a free holiday. Warwickshire and Lancashire have also competed in the past at Hurling. In Gaelic Football the only time the All Ireland Final was held outside Ireland was in 1947 to mark the centenery of the Irish Famine in which Cavan(Winners) played Kerry. It was played in the Polo Ground in NY. Only 12 Teams currently compete in the All Ireland Hurling Championship(Liam McCarthy Cup). #ClashOfTheAsh

In the UK just hockey is field hockey, you have to specify if you mean ice hockey. I played lacrosse at uni here. It’s a great sport, very technically skilled and physically tough. I had more painful injuries in Lacrosse than I ever did in Rugby.
You can watch games live on gaa go. The final is on Dec 13th.
New York does have a team in the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) but that's about as far as it goes in America
There is a team in New York as well. Check out Limerick wining the All Ireland Final in hurling.
Checkout Camogie the woman's version, The stick is known as called in Irish Caman or in English hurley or hurl. Camogie is the Irish name. Caman og which roughly translated to English young hurley or small hurley. Hence the women's version's name. Today both men and women play with the same size hurleys and are often personalised. The pictures at the end of the match players they are not crying they have 'emptied their tanks' or they have given their all. It is play all over the world checkout USA GAA. Welcome to the worship of hurling and camogie
You should also check out Gaelic football, just to confuse you more

3000 years of history. We trained armys with hurls . Literally trained armys . Its part of the irish soul
hurling has 3000 years of heritage and they don’t get paid they all of normal jobs the more do it has a hobby and represent their county
I invented a sport like this when I was a kid (around 9 years old). Then my older cousin told me that was called Hurling and it was an Irish sport. I was really disappointed as the previous sport I had invented when I was 8, which had a soccer goal and a round ball that you could pick up with your hands, turned out to be an Irish sport called Gaelic Football. Maybe I was Irish in a previous life. Anyway, I have watched these two sports over the last 35 years. The teams are the Irish counties. Such as; Cork, Kerry, Antrim, Armagh, Galway, Derry, Kildare, Down, Limerick, etc. I don't know if Kilkenny has a Gaelic Football team. I think Kilkenny has won the most Hurling championships. Kilkenny makes me think of South Park "they killed Kenny!' 😀 I just found out that they had a London (UK) and a New York (USA) team in the Gaelic Football comp. They had to stop because of covid. That must be the first sports league to have teams in three countries and in two continents. At one stage the Australian National Basketball had a team in Singapore. So together with the Australian teams and the New Zealand Breakers. If Singapore is in Asia. 3 countries and 2 continents. But teams in N.Y. and London, that is so cool.😀😀😀 I hope they can get it going again in the future. Check out the Gaelic Association nearest you. They have teams and competitions all over the world, where there are Irish people. So almost everywhere. www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/
Hurling is a 3000 year old sport only played in Ireland they do not get paid for playing but the sport is well known in America usually the champions of Ireland goes to America for a holiday
By the way this was made much much much before lacrosse . Like thousand years before lacrosse . It was made for warriors to train before battle.

@@paraic9163 The exact origins of Australian football are a little unclear. The first 10 rules were written down in Melbourne in 1858. These rules may have had some similarity to the various un-codified forms games of football (games played on foot) that were being played in Britain at the time. These games included the predecessors to rugby and soccer. There have also been some suggestions that Australian rules was inspired by the Aboriginal jumping game of Marngrook, which involved kicking a possum skin filled with charcoal. An early description of the Marngrook does indeed bear resemblance to Australian Rules. "The men and boys joyfully assemble when this game is to be played. One makes a ball of possum skin, somewhat elastic, but firm and strong. The players of this game do not throw the ball as a white man might do, but drop it and at the same time kicks it with his foot. The tallest men have the best chances in this game. Some of them will leap as high as five feet from the ground to catch the ball. The person who secures the ball kicks it. This continues for hours and the natives never seem to tire of the exercise." Mr. Thomas, Aboriginal Protector, 1841. Over the next 50 years, more rules were added and many of these rules might have been proposed by Irish immigrants or Convicts familiar with the Irish sport of caid. Australian football; a hybrid of Caid (Gaelic football), rugby and marngrook?
Hockey was inspired by hurling when irish imagrents traveled to canda during the Irish famine in the 1880s and since in canada the snow and ice comes very soon they started playing hurling on ice that's how hockey was invented
