An English game ! The bastards were so afraid of it that they banned it . They have cricket , enough said .
The ball is not soft. It's made of wood, wrapped in leather with a thick ridged seam. The ridge can and does peel flesh from bones.

Yep
"Have there ever been any fights in hurling?" A few per game, usually.
Facts: •Hurling is the oldest sport on grass •Ancient celtic warriors used to train for battle by playing Hurling •Hurling is the fastest game in the world and the Sliotar which (pronounced like "Slither") can travel up to 150km hour •Helmets only became mandatory in 2010 •Sliotair were originally made out of silver (Now they're made of Cork and Leather) •Hurling is the most dangerous sport in the world •Hurling is older than some of the Egyptian pyramids and might actually be older than all of them
The stick doesn't have an indent. That's a metal band that you see but that doesn't make it easier to balance the ball
Ireland is not England
The sliotar is made of hard leather, very painful hit

Not English , not European , but uniquely Irish .
There must be a huge family of 'stick ball running goal' games all over the world; I recall playing shinty (similar to hurling), hockey (less similar), and rounders (closer to softball than baseball) as a kid.

Shinty and hurling are related. They derive from the same source, and are as old as each other.
Hurling has the skills of Lacrosse, hockey, baseball. Half time is 35mins in not 30. Hurling is a celtic sport with over 3,000yrs of heritage. It's the fastest game on grass. Sliotar is pronounced Slitter. Coincidentally the game of hockey began as another celtic sport called Shinty. It has origins in Scotland.

Cammanached ,, Shinty ,like Hurling in Ireland.. Shinty is played in the Scottish Highlands..
It's good to finally get to see Hurling... I have heard about it (from my late Mum, who was of Irish decent) but I have never seen it being played before. Mum also told me a little about another game, called Lacross, which sounds similar to Hurling but with a net on the sticks. Could you also react to Lacross please ? 🙂
Hurling is probably the oldest field ball game in the world, dating back somewhere between 2000 and 3000 years, to a time when it was used as a means for preparing warriors for battle. It is thus not derived from any other game, and may be the basis from which most other ball games developed.
Its pronounced( slit er )not ( slio tar)
It's essentially a cricket ball but the size of a tennis ball.
It's not a English game it's an irish game. But I guess you could say European as Ireland is in Europe, but its irish from Ireland. It's the fastest and one of the oldest field games it the world, over 3000 years old. Helmets are not in long at all. it's not a soft ball, it's a hard leather ball, it will hurt. Man, that English man butchering pronunciations 🙈🙈🙈
Actually it's a maximum of 3 steps while carrying the slitter in your hand. The game is 70 minutes long 35 minutes to half time. The narrator is not Irish but sounds like English. Hurling was originally used to solve disputes between warring clans in Ireland. It is over 3,000yrs old.
It can be 8 steps in most cases and the hurls head is flat
The ball is made of cork and leather and about as hard as a baseball Hurling is reportedly about 3000 years old

Actually it's harder than a Baseball.
I like your curiousity looking for new stuff and foreigner things to learn more about the world, keep it up
yeh good thing you wouldn't call it an english sport like lol
Any Fights in hurling.........nah But sometimes a game can break out in the middle of a fight...😂 Seriously. It is the fastest most skilful field sport in the world. The Scotish game of Shinty is similarly fast paced. Hurling is played by amateur male players. Camogie is the very similar female version with 13 players a side on a smaller pitch. Championship.

@@galoglaich3281 Sorry. I stand corrected. Showing my age I am afraid 😣
I believe, that prior to standardisation of rules ( and thus the creation of the modern game) there was the older version called hurley rather than hurling, I think there's also a Scottish version called Shinty
Dear god it is not an english sport
Yay thanks
It's called a slit tar
MANS CALLING IT A “SLEEOTAAR”😭
Crazy how many sports there are in the world!! 🤯
Fastest sport on grass
there are studs on the bottom of the boot so you can were soccer boots when playing you don't were shoes
I thought I knew what hurling was (tossing tree trunks). Nope that is caber tossing and is Scottish. I knew nothing about hurling. Now I leard two things. Thanks. Would you review caber tossing if you haven't already?
You should do Gaelic football next
Ireland has Gaelic football (governed by the same organisation as hurling), so we're quite happy to call Association football "soccer": no need to apologise. Hurling is old. It's mentioned in some truly ancient myths. But some of the finer points of the rules (such as exactly how frees are taken, or how substitutions happen) are of course more recent. I wouldn't be surprised if some are inspired by soccer.

Soccer has only been around for 300yrs. Hurling has been around for just over 3,000yrs.
Women also play, in which case it's known as camogie from the Irish word 'camán' meaning 'hurley stick'.
It's pronounced Shlit-er btw,. Not Sleeotar
Played for 3000 years. Back in the day it was in preparation for battle. You can see why.😂🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Yeah it’s a pretty rough sport 😂 hurling is played by men and women play the same thing but it’s just called camogie

The game doesn't stop for a substitution, you can only make a substitution if the game has stopped.
Worth pointing out it’s an amateur only sport and is played by girls too (called camogie). My 2 daughters have been playing since 5 years old.
Stick is actually called a hurl
While with the ball can run 4 steps then is he hurl
No, I wouldn't call it an English sport either, because I'm Irish! You are absolutely correct in saying that this is a really old sport. In fact it goes back some 3,000 years to ancient times when it was a less lethal way of training Irish warriors for war. That means that hurling is likely the oldest field and ball game in ecxistence It is also the fasted and the toughest too.
When we were 13, one of the players on our school team smashed/destroyed 3 hurley sticks in 30 mins over the shins and heads of the other 13 year olds from another school , it was horrific 🤣
