My theory is that a sport that has long uninterrupted periods of action, such as this and soccer, will never be allowed much airtime in America because mainstream American sports are stop/start and are dominated by advertising.

No way GAA has half as much breaks as America football. Lads roll around the pitch on the top tiers of football all the time. With extra time usually about 5 mins. So no GAA is nothing like the breaks in American football. So no comparison necessary. Also no AD breaks. It's an amateur sport..
@gavinhillick

@@GrainneScarlett That's not true. There are always ad breaks on both RTÉ and TG4.The players don't get paid, but the old men who run the GAA certainly do.

@@gavinhillick I didn't say there were no ad breaks for rte and tg4 during match coverage. My argument was in relation to American football coverage. Have you ever sat down and watched it? There are multiple ad breaks. We have a half played and we get ads and then commentary from pundits and more ads. The ads are nowhere near the same.

@Gráinne Scarlett You said "also no AD breaks". You didn't indicate that you only meant during half time. To be honest though, I blame myself for being so pedantic.
That's a decent overview of the rules. I noticed you guys were surprised that a player getting sent off can't be replaced. But that's commonplace in many field sports. It's always been a part of soccer, for instance which makes it familiar to the whole world. And it's in rugby too.

Definitely, it’s American Football that’s the odd one out
My favourite two things about galeic football (and hurling) are that 1) Its completely amateur, no money is involved 2) The highest level is playing for your county and you can only represent the county youre from. This means that pretty much every in Ireland knows a few minor celebrities as their local teacher or policeman represent their county team.

Also the fact that countries where there is not much following of it just can participate in the Irish league.
2:45 when I was a kid .... Meath played Dublin in a Lenster final infrnt of about 50k people ... that game went to * 2 REPLAYS* 3 bloody games it was Epic.

It was 4 games, 3 replays. I was at them all. Formative moment on my childhood. C’mon the Royals! 💚💛
Replays are gradually being phased out and replaced with extra time and penalty kicks like soccer/football. Gaelic football and hurling along with Irish variants of handball and rounders (more niche sports) make up the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association). Both sports played by counties at the highest level, clubs, colleges, and schools also. Gaelic football huge all over the country like soccer (all 32 counties in Ireland play), hurling more regional at the highest level (10-12 counties competitive) but also very popular across the country. All-Ireland championship games draw crowds in the tens of thousands, finals played in Croke Park in Dublin played in front of 82,000.
For draws the replay doesn't happen straight away. If the match ends in a draw, which is rare but does happen, then they will just schedule a replay in the future. The yellow card and red card is the same as in soccer, but the black guard is unique to Gaelic and Hurling. Dublin currently hold the record for the most All Ireland senior country wins, and the most in a row. Like hurling there is club level and county level, but unlike sports in other country these are not professionals. The GAA, the Gaelic Athletic Association, which governs hurling and football and a few other sports, doesn't have professional players. So these are all regular dudes and women who work their 9-5 and then play for their club and county.

Kerry have the most All-Ireland wins with 38. Dublin have 30
You should do a hurling reaction
When they said that if you draw with the other team you replay the match they don’t mean on the same day, it will be played on a different day
The rules have changed now. A black card is a 10min sin bin Also the replay is on another day it isn’t straight after the full game. However a replay is only done if it’s a draw after an additional 20mins. If a match ends in a draw they play 10mins a side and if that’s a draw they have a replay
Ninh has videos on how to play any sport u can think off so if u need to know the rules for any sport he is a must look at Gaelic football rocks
Do a reaction to international rules. It is a hybrid sport which mixes gaelic & aussie rules football. It is solely contested between Ireland and Australia. Lots of clips can be found on youtube - if you type "international rules massive hits " - it features all the biggest tackles / foul play which is a good watch...
red card in football results in the team being short manned too, a few years ago Sheffield United were playing a match where they had several players sent off one more would have meant the match being abandoned so they tried anything to get someone else sent off, regarding the drawn games I would imagine the game would be replayed at a later date, with football knockout matches they replay over a week later with the visiting team hosting the replay
Every county has a team and you play for the place you grew up. In every county club teams play against each other. Schools also play. The main championship is called the 'All Ireland' where county's compete to win. We have an 80k person stadium(croke park) and it gets packed during the all ireland in Summer. Dublin had won the all ireland 4 times in a row recently so they might be a team to watch.
It does build hype when the final has to be replayed.
Even though the replay would be another day I reckon the Irish would still replay the same day. They are a tough lot
Worth pointing out that the big games in the All Ireland Championship last for 35 mins per half, so 70 overall
??? In soccer a red card means too, that you have to leave the game without a substitute. This happens quite often...
check out 'INTERNATIONAL RULES MASSIVE HITS' a game played annually between Ireland and Australia - a mash up between aussie rules football and gaelic football. You will not be surprised when you see this clip that players frequently needed hospital treatment after -SAVAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hurling is 35 minutes a half. Didn't know Gaelic football was 30. Edit - I looked it up. Standard matches are 30 minutes per half. But the 'senior' level big games between counties are 35 minutes a half.
They are trying to reduce replays ,only the final is replayed after the match is still tied after extra time. They have introduced soccer style penalty shootouts for other games before the final with a few games this year setled in that fashion. There have been a good few other rule changes included a black card for cynical play like pulling a player to the ground and obstruction resulting in a player having to leave the pitch for ten minutes without replacement,
When a soccergame ends in 0-0, I always have the feeling I could have done better things with my time. Imagine they have to play a whole match again. Quatar - Dubai for instance. No offence. How do they do that on a tournement with Gaelic football. Or do they only play it in Ireland?
5:40 Why are you surprised at the red card? It's exactly the same rule was football and you've done a lot of football reactions, did you not fully understand the red card? Fun fact: Hurling is the fastest field sport in the world, it's similar to Gaelic football but played with sticks, Gaelic meets Hockey It's odd that a Scouser is the narrator instead of an Irishman, Gaelic isn't very popular outside of Ireland
I played football (soccer) then rugby & thought oh yeah I could play gaelic football. After 2 training sessions & 1 game, I knew I was wrong.
The game is 70 minutes not 60
I'm Irish and I'm about to learn something new I'm not a sports fan. Can you tell ,lol
It’s 35mins a half!!!
This is not football it is rugby though
Quite a lot of similarities to Australian Football, they play a combined version as an exhibition match called International Rules It’s much much older than American football… (as much as I love football). Football mostly evolved from Rugby

Gaelic football is " much older" than American Football, Soccer AND rugby !
The video is wrong each half is 35 minutes not 30 minutes
There's also less sexism. Yes the men's version is more popular, but people get behind the women's versions. My female cousin played camogie and has 3 All Irelands and 9 All Stars. Her mum and aunt, my aunts, both won All Irelands back in the 60s
