D4 avrg dmg = 2. 11d4 =22 avrg dmg 22+11=33 not that much dmg AS FOR 9TH LEVEL FIREBALL 14D6 = 42 AVRG DAMAGE _with successful dex save it's only 21_ BUT ON A FAILED DEX SAVE _it just barely beats out 9th level magic missle_

@@sumdud2129 the average for a d4 is actually 2.5 because the damage starts at 1, so 9th level magic missile does an average of 38.5 damage, compared to a fireball's 42 or 21 damage

sum dud Average on a D4 is 2.5, so half of them, rounded down, are rounded up. D6 is 3.5, so same goes.

to be fair, my multiclass monklock got a great roll and with racial traits aswell as some magic items, my ac is always 21. he also has access to shield, and has a displacer cloak, which is effectively another 10 ac (for a turn). additionally, the unofficial patron i chose, the great cold, gives me at lvl 6 warlock the ability to add my charisma mod to me or an allies ac for a minute. so in total, i can easily have an effective ac of 29, with the option to make it 34 for a turn. my DM regrets his decisions sometimes XD

My DM also does this but just for the joke in a one shot i made a guy who after drinking a potion of haste and getting shield of faith cast on me i got asked if a 27 hits and i was so happy to say no my ac is actually 28 :P

The wizard is so powerful, he casted 2 action spells in one turn, one of them a 9th level spell while he was level 12. That G-Fuel works wonders.

My table had a minmaxer who made the game about the least fun it could be for everyone except him. The only thing that could probably beat his AC was a natural 20. He was the worst player I have ever had to play with in my entire life. He’s worse as a DM because he makes all the enemies like that. Every enemy was a fully crafted DMPC that he delighted in making so overpowered that we could only run. He’d ask questions like “does a 34 hit?” Because enemies would be so high level they would usually be about level 15 and would suspiciously roll a lot of 18s and 19s. There were enemies with attacks that did 20d12 damage with no negatives, just a homebrew innate ability to do this to a group of level 6 players. Needless to say, he’s not at the table anymore. To anyone who has to deal with this type of person at the d&d table, get together with the other players and just kick the asshole out

My yuan-ti bard always talks her way outta combat or tries to avoid it. But that doesn't sound like fun, I ran a one shot like that DM did once, I didn't have fun and I know the players didn't. Now I DM and been running games trying to avoid combat cause I like the clicky clack of the plastic rocks and throw hard encounters at them. Mainly cause I want them to be challenged and to not thing combat should be a go-to but still, hard to balance things for myself. You made a good choice op, but also did any of you tell the DM you weren't having fun at all?? Edit Spelling's

I actually have gotten an insanely high armor class as a paladin (25, buff-able to 28) and saying no to a 20+ attack roll seriously is some of the most fun I have had as a player.

I've just realised that this is an actual wizard that has actual powers including coming back to life and actual power word kill and yet this immortal magician decides to play DND with a table of nerds and pretend he's a different wizard in a fictional world.

​@@kevinlandry1908 Raw, its not clear if time stop would affect the magic darts. So a dm could decide to letting the wizard cast magic missile multiple times during time stop, because the time for the darts is paused. But again, this depends on the dm.

@@skell6134 it also depends if it's homebrew. For example, my DM has allowed us to use Misty Step and Rope Trick for things that aren't detailed in the book. Like the time our Druid/Fighter used Rope Trick upsidedown to escape a poison room. Or using Misty Step while holding onto someone. Essentially he has us roll Arcana because we're "using them wrong" in a sense and we need a 15 to succeed.

I played a Pathfinder campaign once where in one of our sessions, we fought two barghests in random encounter before we even got to our destination, and after fighting for a few rounds, everyone was left unconscious on the ground except for our wizard. The wizard cast invisibility and began running in a circle around the walls of the ruin we were fighting around until the barghests failed their scent tracking roll and went in the wrong direction. The wizard then had to drag our unconscious bodies to safety. That wizard single-handedly saved us from a TPK.

If anyone is having wizard troubles, just remember: Anything that can do more then 12 damage is the bane of wizards

I thought the exact same thing. Back in 3.5 I was in a campaign where we had to stop a resurrected homebrewed bbg, now a worm that walks, where I was a level 22 boom-cleric. I specialized in miracles(which I only used for full rezing the party as my only "dedicated" healing slots) and timestop. Epic levels in Heirophant for extra slots of miracles and timestop. It was awesome, but OP, and we still all failed and died. I immediately thought, how the hell can he do that as a level 12, and all those dice for a single MM?

"does a 30 hit?" is the single most vindictive thing a DM can say, more than anything else in this video

Choose a Warforge BattleSmith Artificer and 1lvl of fighter. 18AC for full plate +2AC for a shield +1AC as a race trait +2AC for infusions in armor and shield with your artificer infusion. +1AC as a fighter style that you take. It gives you 24 base AC. With Shield spell in your artificer list you'll have 29AC. So, you need a teammate to cast Shield of Faith on you to make it 31AC.On a 4th level it could work and you don't need magic items.

Romiros you’d need enough money to get plate armor and someone who can cast shield of faith first though. The latter is likely at 4th, but the former is very much not.

@@boitata2617 Give enemies pieces of magic equipment from their treasure hoard if it makes sense for them to be using it. The Warlock in my group got neutered because a Mindflayer they encountered was wearing a Brooch of Shielding (Immunity to Magic Missile and Resistance to Force Damage).

He was probably going to bullshit after the wizard died, DMPC comes in, revives everybody but bigdickwizard6969 and then just fucking nukes the iron golem to the 9 hells. twice. Which would give them easily enough exp to level up. Also, he needs to make it look like an accident to not draw suspicion, I don't think he wants to get power word killed.

@@boianko Combine Full Plate with a Shield plus Defense Fighting Style plus plenty of uses of the Shield Spell and Defensive Flourish from the Swords Bard and you can easily beat 30 AC fairly early on without a single magic item. Alternatively, pick up some Bladesinger for a huge boost or if you're lucky with stats just go Barbarian Unarmored Defense. Magic items are helpful but they are unnecessary for someone of my trade.

Not to mention that Magic Missile is an action and even at sixth level(the highest spell slot for a level 12 wizard) it would only do 6d4+6 damage. So the maximum damage he could do in that round would be 30 damage, and that's assuming perfect rolls on each d4. It's not terrible damage by any means but it's likely this Iron Golem has pretty high HP given it seems buffed, so if this were played properly and by some miracle every d4 was a 4, it would only do 30 damage and then Iron Golem would just attack him. And possibly kill him.

But would all the wizard's remaining spell slots actually be enough to kill the iron golem using only magic missile? At the very end there, the 12th level wizard had used the following spell slots: 2 3rd level slots on fireball 1 3rd level slots on dispel magic Reflect's level is unknown, but probably at least level 3, as it's said to be "A little higher level than counterspell", which is level 3. The wizard is out of 3rd level slots at this point, so let's be generous and say he cast it at level 4. Then he cast Leomond's tiny hut, which is a 3rd level spell, but since he's out of those, let's assume he used a 4th level spell slot. That brings his remaining spell slot totals to: 1st level: 4 2nd level: 3 3rd level: 0 4th level: 1 5th level: 2 6th level:1 He also attempted to cast Time Stop, but since that's a 9th level spell, and 12th level wizards don't have 9th level spell slots, let's assume that went in a puff of smoke and all the remaining spell slots are spent on Magic Missile. Magic missile does 1d4+1 damage per dart, starting with 3 darts at 1st level, adding one dart for every higher level. A fully healed iron golem has an average of 210 hp. Plugging all those number into anydice shows that...... damnit he could indeed kill the iron golem if he spent all his remaining spell slots on magic missile. the only problem is that, without time stop (even if it did work in the video, you can't deal damage whlie time stop is in effect) the wizard would just be 90'd

I looked at that link and based on everything you put in, it wouldn't kill the Golem. I realize we're arguing over something incredibly stupid but you put in so much work (which I appreciate and did myself as well), and you didn't even say the right thing. The average you gave is 182. If he indeed did start from 210 he would not have killed the Golem. The average I got (without a roller, just taking the average of a D4 being 2), was 156, with a low of 104 and a max of 260. So it's possible he killed the Golem, but on average he wouldn't have.

I'm convinced this wizard isn't even a person. Just an unstoppable force of nature, destroying his own party every session just to revive them later so he can do it again. Truly a terrifying creation.

From what I can tell the most magical character in this is the cat it's almost like they're in two places at once

Wis: I cast Magic Missile at 9th level! Sorc: I cast a lv1 shield spell.

@@MrPayne616 Shield stops all damage from magic missile using your reaction. It's a 1st level spell. If you don't get a suprise round, the Shield will stop all of the damage

@@jmvh59 Only if theres another caster in the party, because the Wiz cant cast Counterspell after casting Magic Missile, because you can only cast one spell per turn, regardless of action/bonus/reaction.

@@cyanide7270 that was my original interpretation as well but sage advice says you can use your action to cast a normal spell and your reaction to counter a possible counter, even in the same turn. www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/rules-game-mechanics/9890-can-you-counterspell-while-casting-another-spell There are some stipulations. You only get one reaction so you can't use it to cast both shield and counterspell. Spells can't be countered if they are out of range or if they are unnoticed (hence the subtle spell). It's a crazy complicated magic system.

So I'm really new to watching your channel but I just watched the useless spells video and now watching this one, the hilarious bold attitude the wizard has is so good and funny I actually had to hold myself back from laughing out loud while at work. It draws the attention away from all the other questionable things in this video that were put in for entertainment purposes and are supposed to make us laugh instead of MAKING SOME PEOPLE (not you, I got the sarcasm) WHIP OUT THEIR BiG bRaiN RULES LAWYER ATTITUDE TO TELL PEOPLE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE SKETCH THAT WASN'T MEANT TO BE SERIOUS ANYWAY But did you notice that he actually rolled way too many dice for magic missile?

JakalTalk Unless he had some sort of boon or spell scroll as he has been shown to cast ninth level spells in the past.

When he said "You're out of spell slots" I thought the Wizard was going to pull out a wand of fireballs tbh.

You know, we've never seen you and the wizard in the same frame

I remember my first D&D, our DM occasionally let us find random magic equipment that was rolled on a table to see what you got, and I got a necklace of fireball. Needless to say he forgot about that item when he tried to corner us in a room of monsters. What was suppose to be a long fight was like 2 minutes 😅

I was actually expecting him to say: "You can't even do that, you are out of spellslots" "Oh, you are right. Okay, I can wait 1 hour to get my arcane recovery. Yes"

I pretty much did this earlier today in skyrim where used a mod spell to freeze time when I was fighting the forge master on legendary difficulty which is basically a flaming iron golem and set up a ton of different projectile spells so that the moment I unfroze time they all hit him at once.

Just found your channel in trying to learn more about d and d. All of your videos are seriously enjoyable and you really help make a lot of this stuff palatable to newbies like myself. I heard in an old video a podcast mentioned- what is the name of your podcast and is it on Spotify? Again, your content is great and I’m so happy I was able to stumble upon your channel. You all seem like a really fun and great group of friends.

Plus you can't attack over and over during time stop, the spell ends if any of your actions affect someone other than you.

So in case anyone was wondering that was about 36D4 coming out to an average of 90 force damage (With a maximum possible of 146). An Iron Golems max hp is 210. To cast that many dice it would have to be over 3 level 9 magic missiles (Of which wizards only get 1 slot by level 17) in addition to the level 9 time stop spell, which SpEcIfIcLy StAtEs if you affect another creature during the casting, the effect ends.

The DM has already sunk to the depths of being willing to kill off the rest of the players just to get a shot at humbling the wizard, and even that has failed. I can't wait for the next video that shows an even further fall from grace, forcing the rest of the party to band together with the wizard to stop the madman the DM has become in his frenzied quest to dunk on the wizard.

You have to admit, that was a pretty smart play on the wizard's part, though i kind of wonder how a 12th level wizard casted time stop because time stop is an 8th level spell and you olny gain access to 6th level spells at 11th level.

It would probably make more sense if the level spell you could cast matched the level that the character was in.

The Wizard is Chaotic F O O L But I mean hey: So is the DM for creating a character specifically to spite the Wizard without considering how it may decimate every other party member as well.

I have legitimately had an AC of 40 using fighter/wizard combo.. high dex, enchanted shield, shield spell, RoP, mage armour or robe of the archmagi....

Jokes on you, with magic items our cleric has an AC of 35 once he spends his first combat turn setting up his Animated Shield and casting Otherworldly Form. The only way I can damage him is via fire and lightning save spells- his dex is 5.

Archmagi (15+dex for 20), shield (to 25), Shield Spell (to 30), (RoP:31), battle master maneuver (D8 if in motion in a turn for potential 39 (DMs ruling on it)), Haste (41). Seen the maneuver ruled other ways as well.. so depends on the DM... That said by the time you've broken AC30, most things will miss most of the time, so the maneuver becomes very optional for the build to work.

i love the breaks in between the game of mental chess the wizard and the dm are having of just the rest of the party dying to the massively unfair encounter the dm made to counter the wizard

MM genuinely has some scaringly high damage output at higher lvls, I personally havent tried it myself.

Not to mention without homebrew or dramatic effect you don’t actually roll all those d4’s you only roll 1 and that’s the damage of every missile, which means an evocation wizard gets to do the thing where they add their intelligence to the roll making a max rolled magic missile with 20 Int being 10 per dart.

they have magic resistance, immunity to a handful of damage types, heal from fire, and iirc prof. in several saves. idk if they were nerfed or not, but an iron golem + a handful of flame skulls would be a terrifying encounter

@@Thunder-bw9xm From 2nd edition - The iron golem is immune to any weapon, except those of +3 or better enchantment. Magical electrical attacks will slow it for 3 rounds, and magical fire attacks actually repair 1 hit point of damage for each hit die of damage it would have caused. All other spells are ignored. Iron golems are subject to the damage inflicted by a rust monster. Once every 7 rounds, beginning either the first or second round of combat, the iron golem breathes out a cloud of poisonous gas. It does this automatically, with no regard to the effects it might have. The gas cloud fills a 10 foot cube directly in front of it, which dissipates by the following round, assuming there is somewhere for the gas to go. (The poison gas was save or die).

First of all, time stop is a 9th level spell, not available to 12th lvl (2:47) wizard. Secondly, it stops time for 1d4 + 1 rounds, not a minute. Thirdly, time stop ends if you hit something with magic missile. The best he could have done with magic missile is 6th level slot for 28(8d4+8). Not enough to kill a golem.

I sent an adult blue dragon at a 9th level party of 3 and one NPC. the wizard killed it in three rounds with magic missile three times. the other 2 guys didn't even hit it. fml.

Kinda sounds like the problem was with you for throwing an adult chromatic dragon at a party of level 9s, not with the wizard for managing to nuke it. There's other players at the table, give them something to do too.

Assuming 5e, there is no way that is possible. A 9th lvl wizard has access to 5th level spells, so casting three banks of upspelled Magic Missiles will give you 21d4+21, three rounds of 7d4+7. Assuming you roll max on all the d4s that gives you 105 points of damage. An adult blue dragon would have at a minimum 126 hit points, rolling 1s on its 18 d12 rolls. Plus the range of magic missile is also within the 120 ft. range of frightful presence. And don't even get me started on its 90 ft lightning breath attack with a DEX DC19 save.

@@pauljanetzke Yeah, that story may be true, but only with some pretty specific modifications to core rules. Either way, someone sending an Adult Blue Dragon at a level 9 party has some other issues going on.

As soon as delay time wears out you watch as a torent of magic pours from the wizard like a dam that broke. the boss is riddled with the sheer might of the many many missles that vake its form. soon enough the magical might wanes and when the dust settles there noting but the legs of this beast remains.
