Mafia III was The Punisher of the Mafia franchise. In my experience, it’s alright. Not blow your socks off game of the century, but it had fantastic music and what Mafia does best, is the story and the world it’s set in. The 1960s were a turbulent decade, but also a very intricate decade. 👍

The games story has an identity crisis. If it had nothing to do with the mafia it wouldn’t have been so borderline cringe at times.

I wish Mafia 3 had more character interactions with the main 3 underbosses.. and not just Lincoln getting closer to his underbosses, building bonds with them.. but having Vito, Burke, and Cassandra interacting with each other and becoming closer. Building a literal family or whatever..

GTA has plenty of repetitive filler. It has better driving, shooting, boat, and plane mechanics. I played Mafia one, and two. Mafia two kept things concise. Good shooting and bullet physics. I liked playing the character in three. I will say again, the story and character animations are awesome. If you skip the open world drivel, and unfortunate AI, this game is a masterpiece.

To me, this has a great story and characters. That final scene where you finally confront Sal is so well done in my opinion. Unfortunately the gameplay is repetitive as hell, but at least it has one of the absolute greatest soundtracks in gaming. I will also add that I appreciate the narrative choice as presenting it as a sort of documentary, something I have never seen before or since in gaming.

Funny thing is if that you fail the opening mission, the agent at the center of the documentary is looking over in his documents in confusion. Saying “I don’t understand, that can’t be how it happened.” They literally accounted for a time paradox in game.

more of the same ol' general consensus/Perception regarding AC1s gameplay structure... it wasn't 'repetitive' just because it was 'repetitive' - and nothing more than that, to put it shortly, the 'repetition' is a part of the games narrative getting exemplified and intertwined with the whole 'repetitive' part, being the fundamental essence of meaning to take liberties with the overall experience of AC1. This transpires into Desmond's part in the overall narrative as well as Altairs and how that corresponds with the gameplay structure, and so the Animus is supposed act upon as a mere catalyst for the story to progress forwards, both Desmond, Altair and the Player undergo the same progression through it's overall narrative structure, and with its interconnectedness with its gameplay structure... the gameplay loop/structure is 'repetitive' at a surface or basis level, and every game shares that sentiment, but difference with AC1 is that there's layers to the 'repetition' that Ubisoft specifically prioritised for thw overall experience of AC1 compared to any other AC game after AC1...

The best way I can sum up Mafia 3 is: “amazing story, lukewarm gameplay.” The cutscenes are absolutely incredible in every sense of the word. But they aren’t enough to hold up game play that boils down to one of two missions: drive here and destroy x or drive here and kill x. The boss missions tend to be much better with the set pieces. The clan meeting and the river boat were some of my favorite parts. And the DLCs, especially sign of the times, shows that they COULD have made the game a lot more varied if they wanted to. But as it stands, it’s merely an ‘okay’ experience. *edit* I know this goes against the spirit of open world games, but I feel the game would have benefited from a much more linear storyline rather than open ended ‘move at your own pace’ missions. Have each racket feel unique in it’s disruptions: like ruining street races for the car theft racket, passing on investigative info to the feds to put pressure on the southern union, expose the officials involved in the bribery rackets so they’re forced to cut ties with the mob, that sorta thing.

The key to enjoying mafia 3 is to think of it as black Rambo the game. A Vietnam vet who’s been crossed out to get vengeance.

Yes, but no. If you've played DLC, Lincoln is written like Arnie, not Sly. One liners, jokes, no PTSD, face expressions as well as being mountain of a man. It's Dutch, not Rambo.

Mafia 3 is still a solid game, the setting alone in the late 60's makes it relatively unique in modern gaming, which is honestly the biggest factor into why I love the game. Sure, it does have its flaws and bugs,and continuity mistakes, but its still a great game.

The gameplay is so damn fun I just wish they’d remembered their bread and butter and kept the variety of missions we had in 1 & 2

I loved the Mafia series and this game as well. I remember having to dump my R9 290X cause it couldn't really run the game and go buy a spanking new GTX 1080. Didn't need to upgrade again until 9 months ago. That card was such a beast.

i still remember the bar scene and painted black started playing,,, i had a gut feeling something was off

I do replay this game about every year, always loved it and it’s fun getting into the story and having some mindless fun in between. Always loved some of the fun cutscenes like when Lincoln scares Donovan, or when Grecco is running away in Lincoln’s car

🤷‍♂️ I loved this game, put it off forever, and then got sucked in. It was a blast. Maybe a little repetitive but… reminded me of a Scarface TWIY sequel or something

Been sitting on my PlayStation account for months. Maybe I should finally give it a try, especially since I loved the first two games so much.

Maybe this is just because It was my introduction into the series but personally I loved Mafia 3, but I suppose I also appreciate the Vietnam war era for America and what that meant, how impactful it was in terms of narrative for him to basically still be in the trenches when he got home, but also I enjoyed the gameplay, I love GTA and Saints Row, and without Mafia 3 I probably never would have thought to try the first 2, mafia 2 is probably my favorite because it has a lot of roleplay elements involved that just make the world feel that much more real and alive, 3 was missing those, and 1 didn't have them, 1 being the first and most simple, I don't hold it against it, there's individual things I like about each one, 3 in particular I like the feeling of growing your gang and getting resources, just the whole way it works, it's dope, do I really feel super "Mafia" as my character compared to Vito for example no of course not, hes an Italian mobster, but it is important to remember plenty of other forms of the mob, and organized crime in general certainly did exist, I love their general desire to maintain historical accuracy for all 3 of them (although some of it is still inaccurate in each one)

In my opinion, it definitely is a bit of a deviation from the original tradition of the Mafia series, but it is still a Mafia game. You basically control a culturally diverse mob while fighting a traditional Italian mob. You still control rackets, you run things, you enforce the rules. All that is different really is how its executed. Mafia 3 is still pretty good, but sometimes it can get a little repetitive and it is basically some of the same things that happen across the game.

If Mafia 3 came out today. Holy shit the fucking fallout from certain people would be absolutely terrifying.

I liked this game so much tbh The vibes were immaculate, especially when you like the aesthetic and most of all the music 😌 Putting aside the bugs and repetitive side missions. The main missions and their writing was great imo.

Once I was done with everything in the game I used to ride around in the cars just to listen the radio playlists they had😂😂

People are so oblivious and ignorant. Saying this "isn't a mafia game". Mafia 1 & 2 is all about being in the mafia while 3 is about taking the mafia down. Now the main difference is how in 3 they made the charachter more superhuman like, but I don't find that to be an issue. Though I do understand why people who enjoyed the 1st 2 can see that as a con for the 3rd. It's still a great game though

Example: Disney star wars is awful, but everything before is at least serviceable. Mafia 3 isn't nearly as grounded as the first 2, which is what people wanted. The superhuman bs doesn't belong and the gameplay loop is too grindy for a game you shouldn't have to grind PS: This isn't a mafia game

So it's like GTA, Max Payne or Punisher where you can cause chaos or kill any family member without fear of being stabbed in the back by those closest to you, the identity of mafia life in this game is completely absent when the game more focus to vegeance rather than how to live under rules, loyalty to family are greater than our own family, etc.

Honestly couldn’t even finish this game. Coming from mafia 2 to this was so disappointing. I wanted to have that cosa nostra type mafia feeling. You aren’t even in an actual family. Its just lincoln and a couple of other people just doing the same thing over and over again

i loved this game with its revenge story but gameplay became too of a loop that i just got bored

The intro for the game. Was nearly perfect. The betrayal and everything. And gave the player a reason for vengeance. But then the rest of the game was meh

Mafia 3 felt a lot like a mix of GTA 5, Saints row and GTA 4. To someone who’d never played mafia at least. Still a great game. I’d probably enjoy it even more as an adult having watched a lot more mafia media

The whole point of Mafia 3 is being a vengeance filled Nam' vet who fights AGAINST the Mafia. That's the ENTIRE thing. The story isn't being in the Mafia , it's fighting against them. I know another comment said it , but I wanted to make my own comment on it

Mafia 3 felt half-finished. A lot of good mechanics (like shoving people in a trunk), but some others were completely missing. It's like eating a frozen cake.

Id love to see you actually do a series of this, or any other game. Like, i really like watching you play with your commentary, but it would be cool to have some part 2s to keep going through

I think the closest part to Mafia is Vito Scaletta being in the game. If they ever make Mafia 4 i hope it's about a Mafia.

The biggest thing this game has against it is that it's really unfinished. Otherwise, everything else ranges from solid to just bland.

I've just started the video but I actually really enjoyed Mafia 3, was a big fan of 2 also. I didn't mind the departure because as everyone who played 2 knows, there's no outdoing the story of Vito and Joe. Repetitive tasks is always a fair criticism tho. I suppose it comes down to how much you enjoy those tasks you have to repeat.

@@Kevduit Definitely feel you on that. The world building being so grounded but the main character being so non-grounded doesn't add up. Still a lot of fun being that powerful. Mind you I did play on the hardest difficulty so I wasn't so godlike. I remember dying A LOT 🤣

Mafia 3 is one of the games I really enjoyed, is it the best in the franchise? Nah but is it fun and does it have great music and atmosphere? Yes. It also gave us the best protagonist in the series, Lincoln Clay is a badass

The biggest problem with the game for me was the lack of fast travel and what they did with Vito. Rest was pretty solid gunplay, world, cars, graphics and those lethal takedowns.

The game has it's appeal but it's riddled with easily avoidable issues. Fire a shotgun straight ahead from a car while speeding. That's right. You can outrun your own bullets. And the missions get grindy and repetitive despite the pretty decent story.

The only thing I know about Mafia 3 is that kid who shit himself in front of his mom

I couldn't finish this game. I got bored quite far in that i stopped and never went back. Mafia 2 was my favourite in the series.

20:40 so i was just playing this game. Keep in mind i played it when i was in highschool. And my dad walked in and thought i was running over people for fun. And i told him "no literally look the ai is broken and they throw themselves in front of your car in the street for insurance money if you drive over 40 mph" At first he didnt believe me but then i gave him the controller and he was laughing because i was right "broken game just play gran turismo"

If it was a stand alone game not tied to mafia, I think it would have had better reception. I like how they made Lincoln like the boogie man.

This game left me conflicted for a while after I finished it whether I liked it or not. In the end I came up positive about it. The gameplay itself and the gameplay loop are not exactly riveting but it really nails the atmosphere of the time and place and together with the driving, the characters and the whole presentation I had an awesome time with it. I got to admit though that I have not yet played the other two Mafia games.

I wish the gameplay of this game was better because I fucking loved the story start to finish, they could've done so much better on the repetitive "control a zone" missions that I assume most people stopped playing at.

If you are into the 60's then go for it! It is underrated imo.

I enjoyed Mafia 3 a lot But i wish it were its own title rather than the 3rd Mafia installment. I definitely wanted more Mafia in a Mafia title, y'know. But it's still a solid game.

It’s a real shame that this game has so much filler BS in it on a gameplay standpoint, because I really liked the storyline. I think it’s actually got the best story in the whole trilogy personally. Also its soundtrack is straight up fire.
