Madonna just rules!

I love that you are fans of the old movie stars. I've seen some people react to this song and say "Who are all these people she's rapping about?" I guess that's one of the great things about this song, it bridges generations. Voguing started as a style of dance in the underground drag balls of NYC and she just brought it to public attention. There was a great documentary in the 90s about it called "Paris is Burning" which inspired the current show "Pose".

Madonna always loved Classic Hollywood movies, and stars, actually as far as I know she always wanted to be like one of them since her childhood, she has always been into them. Her first dream was to be (of course be famous like so many other gifted and talented person) a movie star, a dancer, and after she met music, started singing and started writing songs and saw she could dance and could sing, and could write songs, really good songs actually she became a very good singer, a great songwriter, record producer and an amazing stage performer.

When the protest kicked off in the summer I saw this DOPE video of her son dancing to MJ's (my fav singer, kinda reacted to him like you did Madonna 🤩) They Don't Really Care About Us and he's soo DOPE! @DJ DaveRave aka Dave Gordon Yeah I skipped the Madame X Tour. I spent $1500 on two tickets to MDNA and $750 for Rebel Heart. Both on the floor and VIP package but I just couldn’t do MX. I just wasn’t excited enough about the album which is totally sad for me to say. I hated the patch and the songs BUT I appreciated what she was trying to say. Always love her passion and dedication to her art. I was hoping for more of a dance record. Idk. Let’s hope she comes out with some good ol fashioned dirty beats on her next record. I’d love it if she stripped away all the layers or makeup, clothing, jewelry, and yes the grillz!!!!!!! Wish she was more carefree and less put together -if that even makes sense. She seems pretty in to her self like never before and her wanting to be perfect is sorta taking away her inner beauty. I wish she’d stop trying to be so trendy and just give us awesome music. Please no more auto tune and that lazy mumbling stuff. Hahaha. I totally rambled on. 🤦🏽😂 You a life long fan too so maybe you understand what I’m trying to say.

Madonna used to go to the New York and LA Clubs back in the 80s and 90s to keep a pulse on what was new and breaking before the other artists got to it. I would go to a club called Catch One with my best friend in downtown LA where sometimes she would show up. Vogueing came from the New York Scene if I remember correctly. and what a phenomenon it created!! This song was Humongous back then and is still known as a Classic today.

Well, there's a reason why Madonna's Madonna! :)

In case no one has mentioned it, the vogue video was directed by David Fincher (who directed Fight Club, Se7en, The Social Network and many other films). He also directed Madonna’s videos for Express Yourself (based on Fritz Lang’s iconic 1930s Sci Fi film Metropolis), Oh Father (drawing visual inspiration from another iconic film, Citizen Kane) and Bad Girl (which feels like a chic 90s thriller and features Christopher Walken). Vogue was obviously inspired by Ballroom Vogueing culture, which Madonna connected to through her dancers on the Blond Ambition Tour, and the imagery for the Vogue video is an homage to golden age Hollywood photographer Horst P Horst... One of the most fun things about Madonna studies is that beyond the brilliance of her own work, her post modern pastiche leads her audience to the work of so many other great artists.

Just being a younger reviewer with a wide ranging knowledge and interest gives you such an edge over so much of the “react to” genre on KZread. Reactions are more often than not pretty dismal when it comes to perspective on cultural context and history. I started watching a youtuber react to the song Like A Prayer and on their first pause they said “oh this is Lana Del Rey vibes”... I shut off the review and went back to watching your videos immediately! I know she knew Like A Prayer predates Lana Del Rey, but her tone and the way she phrased the statement was so now-centric... Like A Prayer is regarded as one of the masterpiece songs of pop. That’s like hearing Billie Jean for the first time and saying “ohhh this sounds like The Weekend” 🙄🙄🙄

This is when I fell in love with and under the spell of Madonna. Summer of 1990 I saw the video at my grandparents house. They had cable. This video/song changed my life.

Great reaction video. For your own fun, you really have to watch her Vogue LIVE performance at the MTV video awards. She was terrified to do it. Vogue was THE song that got EVERYBODY out of their seats and onto the dance floor. God it was so much fun! Thanks for taking me back. Now, forward.

Woah… don’t think I’ve watched this reaction from before you started the journey. So fun to see you shook AF! Lol. Yah, the guy with the great profile is called ‘Slam’. I think every female and gay male fan was in love with him. All the guys in the video were her dancers from the upcoming Blonde Ambition tour. Two of them, Luis and Jose, were plucked directly from the Voguing Scene in NYC. They’re the ones featured prominently in the video voguing everyone else out of the water. Oliver, the guy she dances with and bumps defiantly with her elbow, was the only straight dancer in the group, and there were heavy rumours that he was Madonna’s lover, though they’ve always denied it. Of course you know Nikki and Donna by now… shout out to the (iconic) BACKGROUND! You’ll learn more about everyone in the Truth or Dare documentary and there’s been another doc just on the male dancers, many years after the tour, called Strike a Pose. All of them, except Gabriel who sadly passed of AIDS, are still alive. And who’s the hottie now? Slam is still gorge, but little Kevin grew up to be phine AF! Lol

Fun fact: When she choose ''Kept It Together'' has the last single of ''Like a Prayer'', she ask to Shep Pettibone to remixing the song. And when she released the single, Warner asked to Shep to work of a new song has a b-side of the song with Madonna. So Madonna wrote ''Vogue'' with him and when Warner hear this song, all said to this song was too good to be a B-Side, so instead, the song became promoted instead has a principal single. This song eclipsing ''Keep It Together''. ''Vogue'' was n.1 in 20 countrys in 1990, including in US and was of the biggest singles of the 90's. Before it's came out, the video was almost not playing in MTV, because of a shot who Madonna was dressing a sheer lace dress who appear her breasts at the debut of the video. But Madonna made pression to playing the video and it's became a massive airplay in MTV depist that.

At the end of I'm Breathless, I'm rewinding to watch what was MY first Empress reaction and your first Madonna one. So much fun to see how hard this song and video hit your straight out of the gate. It was iconic from day one and has never gotten old. Now I'm a huge Empress fan. You are beyond delightful but, more than that, you really get music in a much more sophisticated way than most reactors. Good ear, Empress! I don't know if you're able to react to Truth or Dare on your channel but, I promise you, even if you're not, you must do yourself a favor and watch it. It's so insanely entertaining. You'll love it. The absolute pinnacle of first wave Madonna. Second wave is what you were describing, I think Ray of Light through the first decade of the 2000s. We are currently in third wave Madonna, which other than Rebel Heart has been pretty meh. Gotta give her props for longevity. I've been a huge fan since 1984. Personally, I think this is the #1 dance song ever, though you being such a big MJ fan, you might not agree with me ;) First wave Madonna was epic! She could do no wrong, and it was capped off by Vogue. It's just a fresh today as it was in 1990. It's in regular rotation on my playlist, and always puts me in a good mood. Brilliant production! On a side note, if you are a Bette Davis fan, and haven't seen All About Eve, it's a MUST!

I think this is second wave, first wave was 80s (like a virgin, lucky star, borderline, true blue etc.), second wave was late 80s, early 90s, like a prayer, vogue, take a bow. 3 wave is what she’s familiar with.

This was my favorite of Madonna I think right around this time she did a spread for Playboy we all for it to come out I think it was all in black and white it was really cool and she was really beautiful sexy

Hi Empress, I am so excited that you are appreciating Madonna. I know you get a million opinions, but I'll add mine too! For this era of Madonna, check out her documentary called Truth or Dare. It was a documentary about her Blond Ambition tour from 1990. It has black & white behind the scenes action with full color performances from the tour. This tour changed the modern spectacle of a major artist's live performance. Also, the dancers and background singers from the Vogue video were prominently featured in the documentary, so much that they became "famous" as well. The film also broke boundaries for LGBT representation in a major motion picture.

She has so many different styles of videos and music, there is something for everyone. Wait till you see the ultra risque sexy Madonna.

Yup! Like kinda really not on my radar til she did that brit collab and of course that infamous kiss. I remember my music teacher got mad cause we were talking about 😂😂😂 she was like inappropriate yall too young

So many iconic videos from the Queen of Pop. I became a fan from Ray of Light on, but you're gonna love her earlier eras. 'Express Yourself' is a great song and video, if you dare.

It’s so amazing hearing the muscularity and urgency in her voice, and that Madonna warm tonality, as she sings this iconic song in the studio.
