I'll be honest. I wouldn't have the balls to spar with her in front of 10 million people on T.V. Ol' Letterman had to bring his A game! She's a force of nature, she is. Nowadays we have all these "Influencers" Around, like the Kardashians. But she's the absolute original shit. She kicked and punched her way to the very top, paving the way ahead for all to follow. Awesome lady and a hell of an artist. Respect.

I think it was necessary at that time to do that!! It was 94, David did talk about Madonna´s sexuality and put it as a joke, I think in those days men could talked about his sexuality in a natural way. I think nobody did what madonna´s done in that talk show and that´s why I think this is ICONIC and NECESSARY. Even though the crowd guy got annoyed, probably that´s why he got annoyed cuz he was obviously a man. It´s not coincidence for me.

They played off each other really well. It's all an act but came across as solid banter. Good show all around.

Literally her entire career up to that point was built around being sexually seductive. She'd just released an album called Erotica and a book called Sex. Then she comes on here and she's like, stop talking about my sex life - and her example is some gag where a blond chick is riding a bike naked and Dave says it's Madonna. David Letterman was just one of them, calling her slut and making fun of her every single day. Madonna wasn't there to say "stop talking about my sex life" she was there to say "yes, let's talk about my sex life, but with me as part of the conversation", she was there to say "you wanna talk about my sex life in your show, perfect, but I bet you'll shut me up if I talk about my sex life in your show". And that's exactly what he did, tried to shut her up, and tried to mock her ridicule her. Madonna was there to show how hypocrite the media and people in general can be about sex. She was there to show how brutal society can be with a woman who is not ashamed of showing her sexual nature and talking about it. She didn't want David to stop talking abut her sex life, she wanted to say that putting her sexuality out there was not a reason to be disrespected, because everyone have sexual life, they just don't talk about it, they talk about someone else's. She was there to prove she was being punished for being openly sexual. And boy she did.

I'm not suggesting you can't dislike what you dislike, I'm suggesting you are lazy (typical?) in your reading of the situation. Precisely what form of media-baiting do you take Late Night culture of 1994 to be performing here? It's common knowledge, even amongst those who can't stand Letterman, that on Dave's show the celebrity is the joke, and the audience is in on it.

Yes. Is there misandry? Yes. We often over look actual misandry against men and call small interactions misogyny for no reason. Actual assaults and sexism now mean way less because the woke generation has termed terms like homophobic, misogyny, sexism, racism into common terms that happen in daily interactions even when nothing is done wrong. Actual victims of those things will now be overlooked and not taken serious, because words like that have lots all meaning sadly!

No - I’m sure the producers wanted her to be a bit edgy & provocative, but they didn’t bargain on her going that far. She was high, and Letterman genuinely got pissed off with her behaviour. She made some very valid points about censorship though, and was right to point out how obsequious he’d become to his guests, compared to his show in the early days which was a lot less contrived.
