She always questioned the interviewer, always asked for clarification and definitions. She thought seriously about her answers and was honest and also humble and realistic. Plenty of people don't think I'm beautiful, I don't know how many minds will be changed, America can't get past scandal to actually talk about the art.

She could have done a regular old pop album. A Britney Spears album. A Pink album. A Michael Jackson album. A Mariah album. But Madonna is an artist.

She always struck me as very earnest person who just had to put up a lot of barriers because of her career. Every now and again you see it flash through. She's always been beautiful, but there's a very sympathetic spirit there too.

I miss this kind of Madonna. Nowadays I feel like she is traumatized by the ageism she's encountered as she has aged. Her plastic surgery is her way of coping with ageism, which has to be more intense for her as a female pioneer superstar in a patriarchal society. She doesn't know how to cope with it in another way. I feel like it's crept up on her and caught her unawares. It hurts me to see people on her Instagram verbally attacking her; both men and women. "Why did you get plastic surgery? Now you look like [insert expletive]". They say this over and over. It hurts my heart.

Literally. She has this strong image but at the same time she can be very sensitive. People need to realise she's human like everybody else. Like damn she deserves a lot more respect by everyone. She's not only a pop icon but also a cultural one. Artists now can do/say what they want to do/say because of her pushing the boundaries and expressing herself and also making people reflect with their mind. We should definitely thank her more.

I love how you can't just blame her for her own mistakes and choices, ironically removing all agency and power from her. Blaming 'patriarchal society' (a conspiratorial boogeyman if ever there was one) instead of Madonna for choosing some warped version of eternal youth. Most of the ageism comes from women and effeminate gay men anyway.

Your comment is interesting, people said this about her then, "I miss the old Madonna". She was judged then and now. She will never win in many peoples eyes.

@MarvinGuatemalanBoywell most 80's artist didn't make a good transition in to the 90's sounds and visuals especially in pop I think, I'd say only Madonna and Janet were able to really morph into it and also push it themselves
