Another great video Josh! Madeira is indeed a more established tourist destination with many resort style hotels and a stomping ground for the Brits for the past several decades. The Azores are coming into their own as a hot trending destination, eco/environment focused and a nature lovers paradise. Prior to Covid the Azores were experiencing a boom and for sure this summer and over the next several years the destination will be in high demand. People looking to escape city life, become one with nature and take things a bit slower will find paradise in the Azores. I’ve had the opportunity to visit 6 of the 9 islands and look forward to starting our home construction on São Miguel hopefully this year. Note: Niko can find a gym at Sol Mar Avenida Center in Ponta Delgada and there is also a supplements store in the same shopping center across from the gym (2nd floor if I recall correctly).

Azores is a bikers paradise. There are places where you can´t go with a car, but there are others where you can´t go fast without a bike. So I insist with the Brompton 6 speed folder which you can put in a car, so the bike doesn´t get too dirty from Azores rain. The only thing I´m really afraid of are active volcanos in Azores. Carnivals are an excellent opportunity to socialize and learn portuguese. Thank you for the nice video! 🙂

Very helpful video along with the other ones on the Azores and the other islands! I'm thinking of moving to the Azores (Sao Miguel) but the only thing that is keeping me from making the leap is the uncertainty about the weather. It appears as though it gets pretty chilly, rainy, and stormy there for a large portion of the year on average. Is this the case? I'll be moving from the tropics which has lovely weather year-round (30 degrees) and even when it rains it's still t-shirt and shorts weather. Do you think I will find the climate in the Azores unenjoyable or extremely uncomfortable and cold to get used to?

Both of you have picked up on the human vibe lost in most busy fast paced places of modern society but still found in the Azores. Azorean culture is largely based on the distinctive characteristics of island living. They include the relative isolation afforded by these islands, religion, family and friends. The people tend to be much more grounded to the earth making them more real. They are almost painfully aware of the ephemeral nature of all things. These experiences make them instinctively and painfully aware of what's important. Thus, human connection, love, understanding and acceptance of what is becomes all important. Beautiful, peaceful, soothing place. Enjoy these unique moments of your life. The are bound to make unforgettable memories.

My family is from the Azores and I lived there for a few years in the military in the 90s. I loved it. When I’m able I’ll go back. The reason they are so strict on the meat is I lived there in the 90s during the madcow disease out break and all the animals where destroyed . It really hurt a lot of people financially. So they are very strict now. Me and my children can no longer donate blood because of it.

That’s crazy. They destroyed all the cows from the Azores? In retrospect, I’ve become suspicious of the mad-cow event that happened in the 90s. I’m starting to think these sorts of events are more about $$, gaining new controls, and hurting people. The great covaids deception forced me to learn a lot about, “viruses”, and they definitely don’t work like we’ve been told they do. Thanks for sharing the story, I recall the event but didn’t know the Azores were affected. I thought it was mainly England.

My guess is, the Azores are more American friendly than Madeira because America opened its arms to the Azores when volcanic eruptions forced many to escape. America took thousands of people from the Azores in, and welcomed them. I don’t think they’ve forgotten that. Also, because of its isolation, the people of the Azores are probably a bit more excited to meet new people, whereas Madeira has been more well known for a longer period and has been exposed to more human traffic. The locals in Madeira are probably slightly more jaded by any influx of outside people. I think that’s sorta a vibe on most island.

My opinion is that Madeira is undoubtedly the place where I would consider living. I would never, ever live in the Azores. Weather conditions in the Azores are usually adverse. Not in Madeira. Madeira is a semi-tropical island where the microclimate is one of the good characteristics. The quality of life in Madeira is incomparably better in Madeira than in the Azores In my opinion, Madeirans are generally more GENUINELY friendly than Azoreans Since 2015, Madeira has been elected every year by the “World Travel Awards”, which is the most recognized award by travelers and institutions around the world as the best island destination in the world Madeira is without doubt the most pleasant Portuguese archipelago, as it combines: - The best beaches: Yellow sand: Machico, Calheta and Porto Santo Island Black sand - Seixal and Praínha (Caniçal) Countless pebble beaches all over the island - Idyllic mountains, as it is one of the world’s paradises for all those who value hikes along safe trails (no dangerous wild animals, nor threats of crime) and where there are the famous “levadas” (something that the Azores do not have and will never have) !!!! Hence the reason why Madeira is home to the ONLY UNESCO Natural Heritage site in Portugal. In ecological terms, Madeira is in the process of reaching the admirable percentage of 50% of dependence of all its energy on renewable energies only The violent crime rate in Madeira is extremely low (almost non-existent!!) -In Madeira there is a decent health system (proof of this is that sporadically, citizens from the Azores are evacuated by plane to the Hospital in Madeira in order to be assisted there) -There are incomparably many more villas and good apartments available in Madeira for sale or for rent. In Madeira there are small quiet towns but there are also some relatively sophisticated urban spaces for those who might like it (something that is not possible in the Azores) The Azores is a boring place. Madeira is a quiet place but not boring The geostrategic location of Madeira has meant that Madeirans have always been people used to deal with foreigners and that geostrategic location also makes possible to in a few hours, travel by plane in a direct flight to iconic cities such as London, Paris, Madrid, Rome. Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Vienna, Warsaw, Prague, Helsinki, Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, New York, etc Madeira is definitely a place that can be considered as a place to live. The Azores not so much. I would never make the decision to move to the Azores (it would be a big mistake)

When you say rain and storms, is the weather like this often throughout the year? I'm thinking of moving there (from the tropics, 30 degrees year round with a wet season of 3 months) but by how you describe it I don't know about my decision anymore. Lots of rain all the time and stormy weather doesn't sound that appealing at all plus the temperature will be cold for me even in the summer

@@tubbyrainbow111 Madeira and Azores don't have 30 degrees all year around, the weather in Madeira is warmer than Azores mainly because is near to Africa, Azores is in the middle of the atlantic ocean making more exposed to storms, but still better weather than mainland, at least the sea temperature you can swin almost all year around.
