for those who run primarily zone defense it does work also. It will make your user cover whichever zone it is in. what i do is read the play while the player gets into his zone then I jump routes that I am near. It works great I average about 2 users a game. get a player with high agility to user with

mike phillips pretty much how I run defense I do control the player into the zone though and jump routes the same way you do. sometimes I get risky and play out of my zone when I read a play early but usually it works especially when they try to catch me with a screen to the rb

you can just not press anything and your player that you want to control will do that anyway

Dude, thank you so so much for making this video! I have watched so many videos on how to play different defense packages how to run them, but when it comes to usering nobody has ever mentioned holding LB!!!! I've asked these youtubers how can I be a better user and they always say I need to learn the routes which I suppose is true to some capacity. But this is the missing key! I have already won so many games because of this my defense has become so much better!

also I couldn't figure out how to route swap lol but I found that if u blitz a defender outside the tackle box it shuts down stretches in the backfield. if u put a SS u can get a lot of fumbles Ex: Dollar db blitz 2 base align press dline shift (optional)

great tip!! i didn't know this. after this my defense became ten times better. after watching this I went ahead and played game on ultimate team. it was 30-0. I use this on 4-3 wide 9 and 4-6.

The first game I tried this, I got a pick six because he forced a throw right to my user. It got me the 7 point lead late in the 4th. Thanks so much bro. Now I can user so well. I essentially don't have to do anything.

Do you have to have control of the man you are manning up or can you be on somebody else after you man him up as long as you hold L1 he'll still cover him?

This is really handy when you are in the open field, and happen to be the last guy between the user and the goalline. I also really like to do this, when I am manually pressing a TE, and I want to steer him where I want him to go...I'll press him off of the line, say to the outside, and then use L1 until I get read on where he's gonna break

okay so let me get this right before the play i hold l1 and then I'll hold it a couple seconds after the ball is snapped or do I let it go when the ball is snapped and he will automatically follow his man assignment?... just a little confused

I feel confident in the open field. Some players are very skilled at faking out the CPU so I like to make my own tackles.

I prefer to allow the CPU to cover until I recognize what the route is and then I will take control and jump the cut.

I am playing a friend in the "superbowl" of our League here ... He is pretty decent - but always plays the passrushers as user i Defense. How could I capitalize of this with the Saints PB i'm using. Appreciate your help! :))

Zan I'm old and have terrible stick. I usually hold L2 and triangle together (PS4) to help cover seams. I get user picks when I guess right on patterns. Can I use L1 and hold triangle together to user?

yea i understand this. they look at all pro as an assist from the cpu. ive tried to explain it to them that this is not the case but they arent hearing it. anyways so your not sure about this working on all madden?

Great video but what's the difference between holding L1 and not holding L1 and just letting cpu control the player? Obviously if I move a player and then not press anything before the snap the cpu will control the player until I do. So again, why hold L1 then? Thanks!

You can hold L1 at any point. If you are accidentally hitting the stick at snap you lose CPU control.

Ok we know that this works in zones, on people manned up, but let's say your opponent is hitting you in the flat, if you hold the flat defender's icon, will he play the WR/TE/HB that goes to that area closer? Also, if you are in zone.....I'm trying to build off your brilliance here, lets say cover 3. Monster WR on left side, so spotlight him and man up a safety, can you man up the secondary threat whoever that may be, use this technique, and rely on the CPU to cover the rest? Just trying to take it a step further is all

Not necessarily. Your player would still play whatever his assignment is. Spotlight is different and causes zones to hug certain players more tightly as they run their route.

That's literally it. Just hold LB/L1. It does not work on All-Madden.

I'm more of a defense kind of guy on madden especially the coverage and I'm just saying what's the fun in having computer playing for you. I get passed on a lot during a drive but I love playing my own coverage cuz one of those plays my opponents gonna mess up or I'm gonna make a playmaker move and seeing that "all user" is worth it to me. PS I only play all madden.

Yes, if you are in zone. Otherwise they will cover the player they are assigned to by default in man-to-man.

I sleep on this tip SO MUCH. I played a guy today who had blinders for Julio Jones, I just started manning him up in zone and held LB every down. Julio was 1 catch for 7 yards.

Damar Jenkins I believe there is a setting you can change but I wouldn't know what it's called, I don't have madden any more so I couldn't help you there. I'd assume it's labeled user-assist or something along those lines

You hold it until it until your user gets to the guy you can use it in zone so if you got a linebacker in a hook zone you can pressure the line to make it look like a blitz the hold LB and it'll drag your zone to where it covers and then you can move around from there

cpu assist seems cheesy. if you have the instincts you can make right decision. or the wrong one lol but thats football you take risks based on your knowledge of formations, routes, and what someone frequently runs. just have to make adjustments. this helps if your really getting killed and cant stop something though

Interesting how many helpers EA has put into the game. Holding L1 til you identify the play works great so your not out of positon on a play. I've played around with holding bumper vs. doing nothing at all. Seems holding L1 is not even necessary, as the cpu will control your user until you input a command. Same goes for guys that are bad at seeing run lanes, if your back has good ball carrier vision, just snap the ball and let the cpu run it for you. Its not perfect, but sometimes the cpu finds a hole or makes a move I would have never came up with and gets a big gain. Once you see the lane or the open field, then you can take over to finish the run
