These are just the results of your company being captured by far left ideologues. From execs, to managers, employees to the janitors. You saw what happened with googles AI right ? Well that’s what happens when your entire company from the floor up is full of far left woke ideologue hires. When that happens, it’s very hard to turn it around. What is a company like Disney going to do, fire everybody and change their hiring practices ? Never. They are the ones that created, pushed and embraced this mind virus.

I'm a female comic book fan. I have been for more than 20 years. I like my superhero comics and movies the way they were. I don't want them changed to make them more female friendly. I feel insulted when a bunch of Hollywood execs tell me what I, as a woman, should like. Thank you for putting that out there for me and all the female superhero fans who want Marvel and Sony to go back to what works and what we already liked.

The MCU is like a great restaurant's signature Italian dish... But they replaced the ingredients that made it good, one by one, opting to make it vegan, gluten free, and lactose free, without changing price, and with a sauce that seems suspiciously like it was bought at Kroger. And then being confused why it not only doesn't sell, but why customers generally aren't coming in. Get back to the good recipe and the right ingredients and maybe people will come back.

You hit the nail on the head. As MM: Fury Road proves, the problem isn't adding women leads in and of itself. The problem is writing it in a different way to appeal to an audience who the movie is simply not for, feminists, while making it appeal less to non-feminists. Most female moviegoers aren't wishing superhero movies cater to them. They're just not interested in watching them most of the time. Just like a large percentage of the male audience of romcoms are guys going to see a movie with the girl they like, not to see the movie itself, a large percentage of the women going to see superhero movies are doing so because the guy they like wants to see it. Even still, i struggle to understand this hard push to market these movies to a new audience. At first glance its easy to grasp. Appealing to more people means more money. Tucker and Dale vs Evil. You can argue it's a slasher movie romcom. JSG is right. His analogy of making a horror slasher movie into a romcom works well. Just like others have said making a Barbie movie to appeal to boys is ridiculous and not expected. My point is taking a different take on a genre, mixing genre, or reformatting it for a different audience can work. However in order to do that you need to have a clear vision of what the film is. The leadership needs to be competent at very least. Have a high understanding of the genres, and elements involved. An understanding of why particular demographics enjoy their respective genres. This is hard to do. It's why there are not a lot of Tucker and Dale movies out there. The people working for Sony, and Disney, completely lack the ability to make a basic good enough film for any genre.

Why did this fail? First, who asked for it in the first place; second - she's a hero that no one outside of really, really hardcore comic people would know of. I myself only ever saw her in the 90's cartoon. Where she's an old, crippled woman, who somehow was in the same realm as the Beyonder when Spiderman went time hopping trying to get MJ back. In the show her powers were "clairvoyance" she never actually displayed, and nebulous otherwise. I lumped her in on the Beyonder's level - and was probably wrong to in the first place but I was younger - because it seemed possible to my kid brain. Add to that she's not even got a "heroic" super power. She "saved" the three young women by going over what would happen again and again, until she got it right. (Most clairvoyants actually can't change the future = rather like Cassandra in Greek Myth; who was cursed by Apollo to always be right, but no one would believe her) so you could argue the point that her power is actually to change the future she sees. Still not that great a power. So she's not really a "Super" hero. She's like Batman that way. He's technically not Superpowered and thus not a "super" hero. He's a paragon as a Hero, an example of the best one can be, so arguably a champion/elite level but still JUST a Hero. At least his story arc and ability to overcome actually powered individuals with tech and brains makes him interesting. She's a hero to three women we never met in her storyline in the comics (which borks canon so it'd piss off anyone that knew these characters in the first place for being jarring) and is noted in a cartoon for being an ominous, know it all character who wasn't even reliably there to help Spiderman. It also tries badly to tie in Mary Parker and Pete as a baby, just to stitch together some cred in what's said to be it's own stand alone universe. You can't have it both ways. Pick one. At least by the end, in a movie where all she does is play brave Sir Robin, she ends up not able to use her legs. So I guess she's fucked for the next time. No matter which future she sees about a sequel. I'm not surprised the numbers were low; I'm surprised they weren't lower.

Your line about rushing things to make a franchise is basically what happened with the Universal monsters. They released The Mummy, but they added Jekyll/Hyde AND a secret society kinda like SHIELD, not as teases for the next movies but as major parts of the Mummy movie, because EITHER they thought a Mummy story on its own wouldn't work, despite 3 successful movies and a spinoff, OR they thought Tom Cruise couldn't carry the movie on his own. And what we got was a mess of a movie which strangled the franchise in its crib. It sounds like Madame Web shoud've been called "Spider-Women" or, as you suggested, focused on ONE character.

There isn't superhero fatigue so much as there is woke fatigue. Men, in particular, are tired of wasting their money on movies that weren't "made for them". Nobody wants to spend two hours being scolded. People are sick and tired of movies that were made by people who hate the source material and actively mock the potential audience. Want proof, consider. As of December 2023, some estimate that Disney has lost between $1.3 billion and $1.4 billion in theaters in 2023 alone. That is almost enough to wipe out the profits from Avatar 2, No Way Home, and Endgame combined. This trend shows no sign of changing in 2024.

I still don't think it's "superhero fatigue". I think it's "we're tired of shitty, poorly written bad tumbler fan fic directed by somebody who's only experience is dancing in the tickety tock videos." come up with good, well written stories, with smart well developed characters and a plot that doesn't bite rocks on the bottom of the ocean. This will require experienced writers and directors with more qualifications than how many boxes they can check. You can't write smart characters if you're IQ is lower than your resting heartrate.

The sad thing is... at one time, medias that featured obscure superheroes were great! The real problem is that writers are not focusing on writing a great story anymore about a character who just is "____". They want to make everything about little details where the whole point is that these little details do NOT matter. PS: We need to drop the "modern audience" mentality. Instead, let's focus on the audience and love them the way they deserve to be.

There is a story in Marvel comics cannon with female characters, and the audience will love it. All they have to do is show the most important story of Carol Danvers life, true to the comics. This will also introduce the mutants, especially the female powerhouses. It would also give the black whole of charisma, Brie Larson, an excuse to retire.

What I hear about "Madame Web" is less "camp classic" than "the _only_ way you might glean some enjoyment out of this is to laugh at it". That seems to me like a "Hey, 'Madam Web' showed up on Netflix; let's call some friends and open a couple of bottles of wine" than a "let's pay full ticket price so we can sit in back of the theater and snicker" experience. So-called "superhero fatigue" seems born less out a surplus of superhero movies than a load of "but you'll go see it _anyway_ , because it has _superheroes_ !" movies.

Superhero fatigue is a lazy out of touch answer. Yes I am not so blind to know it does happen. Five years ago Marvel would have made bank with a Thor movie that followed good source material and no politics. They didn't as we know and went about killing other I.P.'s. There is now brand damage anyone or anything associated with Disney is going to suffer. It's going to take time and a drastic change in course.

"...Disney's going to buy you sooner or later anyway, so you might as well take your time." Ouch! It's funny because it's true. Or it may be true if Disney still has any cash left after the terrible run they've had. No doubt they'd love to get the exclusive rights to Morbius! (And you know, Spider-Man.) Madame Web was never going to be a success. The character is a minor member of Spider-Man's supporting cast. There may be Madame Web fans out there, but you could probably put them all in a medium sized ballroom, and even then half would only be there ironically. This reminds me a lot of the Birds of Prey disaster, although in some ways that was worse because the Birds of Prey was a moderately successful comic book, and there were actual female fans of characters like Batgirl and Harley Quinn. But given that slim starting advantage, DC still managed to change everything about the characters and make a film no one wanted to see. Sony has now done the same thing, except with a group of characters that are way more obscure. There are no Madame Web lunchboxes, and now I guess there never will be.
