Madame d'Ora

Dora Kallmus (1881-1963), better known as Madame d’Ora, was an unusual woman for her time with a spectacular career as one of the leading photographic portraitists of the early 20th century. This exhibition, on view at Neue Galerie New York from February 20 through June 8, 2020, is the largest museum retrospective on the Austrian photographer to date in the United States. It presents the different periods of her life, from her early upbringing as the daughter of Jewish intellectuals in Vienna, to her days as a premier society photographer, through her survival during the Holocaust. Forging a path in a field that was dominated by men, d’Ora enjoyed an illustrious 50-year career, from 1907 until 1957. The show includes more than 100 examples of her work, which is distinguished for its extreme elegance, and utter depth and darkness
In this video, exhibition curator Dr. Monika Faber brings you through highlights of the exhibition.

Such a marvelous exhibit. So disappointing the show was cut short due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Bongu from Malta! Very interesting exhibition and somehow these women are astonishing modern, some pictures could be from our days. As far as the Neue Galerie is concerned: I would like to suggest a video presenting the Neue Galerie New York (concept, building and rooms, history, people and some artists involved and presented so far). I found you in an old NY Art Guide which I bought on a flee market in Gozo. Tislijiet *** Viele Grüße
