Madagascar : The Paradise of Time + Tide Miavana

In this video I portray the luxury resort of Time + Tide Miavana through my lens. It is an honour to call this place my office for a month or so each year.

You got so many shots of the animals and sea life! Each one more beautiful than the last. 💚 "For small creatures such as we the vastness is bearable only through love."- Carl Sagan

Beautifully filmed. Would’ve been nice to see you interacting with the actual people who call this place home, other than them just serving you. I mean it’s one of the poorest countries in the world and you’re flying around in a helicopter to a 10 star resort... I hope you give back what you take. Must be nice to be so privileged.

Hi here, thanks for the comment. Perhaps you have misunderstood and wrongly assumed things about my life because you didn't see it represented in a 5 minute video. I am not privileged enough to be able to afford to stay here, I was sent here to work. I have worked for years teaching myself photography and videography, I gave up a family business in the uk to head out with my camera to chase my dreams which over 4 years has taken me from backpacking dorm rooms to building my skills to be invited to this luxury resort. All along the way some of my highlights have been from my love of interacting with local communities. My work is aimed at encouraging tourists to less traveled countries which the local people and wildlife hugely benefit from. As for the company I work for there, here is some information. 91% of Miavana employees are Madagascan nationals with 68% of the team originating from our closest neighbouring communities. The island operation provides financial support and works closely with our Foundation whose primarily focus is on education, health & empowering women in the local community as well as conserving the areas and the wildlife where we operate. As an example of this work, over the past few years we have continued our efforts in supporting the local community when almost all tourism establishments have closed their doors and the economic impact has been far reaching, 5,444 local residents have received free medical consultations and health care, and 73 young female students have received specialised academic tuition and support.

Cool, but you’re still worth big $ compared to most of us. I’m pretty sure the “owner and investors” who bought up those islands are making a huge profit, glad they justify that by kicking down tax write offs to some locals. Just bums me out to think of the islanders who once called it home we’re forced off by the police and the sea fishermen who used it as a resting spot are no longer welcomed there, not to mention the Madagassy people who can’t go there to enjoy the beauty and nature of their homeland, so well preserved for the rich and famous. If Mr. Dalais ever wants to establish a camp there for orphans and/or local city kids, lemme know. I bet there’s kids in the Tana who’ve never even seen the ocean. I’d be more than happy to help set it up, for free. I have an ass kickings resume in program development and international awards for my work in Cambodia.
