Mad Max - The Vernon Maxwell Fight Documentary (Rare Footage)

Vernon was a very underrated player. He will be remember for his altercations with fans and opposing players but he was actually very skilled. The nickname Mad Max is a perfect because he had a very short fuse.

The younger generation know nothing about this no holds barred style of basketball. The 1980’s & 90’s were extremely physical and NBA players back then actually defended and had genuine rivalries. Players weren’t all buddy, buddy like today’s players. When we say today’s basketball players are soft, this is a perfect example of what my generation is talking about. Mad Max just didn't give a fu**! I LOVE IT🤣😂
Terrific footage you put together, bravo for that, especially the stereotypical Jazzfan yelling about Max's wife's miscarriage. However you did leave out the single greatest play of his entire career -- hitting the late 4Q three-pointer to close out the Knicks in the Finals (assist from Hakeem). I jumped so high my head put a dent in my friend's ceiling. He hit a lot of game-winners, but that was #1.
I like how that fan thought he was "safe" in the stands talking ALL TYPES of s h i t, UNTIL "Mad Max" came "live and direct" up in his face and got a good punch off on the mouthy fan ! That punch cost Vernon a lot of 💰💰, but he broke that guy's jaw ALSO!

Yeah. It was Great. See back then , you have to put the ball in the ring ,like now , but BACK THEN there was ALL these physical freaks that tried to stop you from doing THAT! THE shit was rrreal, mannn
Charles slammed Shaq twice... and Max wanted shenanigans. Horace used to throw Worm, Mahorn, Laimbeer, Buddha, Spider and Aguirre off his back regularly... and Max wanted a skiddly-doo with him. Max was equal parts tough and insane.
This was pretty sick
Imagine how many all-star games he could’ve made if he kept his temper in check..

If he kept his temper in check and had better work ethic he was a complete SG. Great scorer athletic and rough defender

MAX already had a similar built and playstyle as John Starks eventhough Starks had them NBA jam hops to his game max might have been a little quicker when he was focused on both ends. 😉

@@creoleDJ ur right I've seen maxwell catch a couple alley oops 2handed back in 91/92 including 1back door on John Starks . But Max would mainly dunk around defenders or in the opencourt the times I saw.
Mad Max! Respect…✊
Old school basketball will always be the best!
someone who could play d on mj, but the officials were told nope
Starks vs Maxwell was must see tv
Mad Max was one of the few players that was not intimidated by MJ and one of the very few that could (relatively) contain him. The Rockets were the only team that consistently beat the Bulls in the regular season during the Bulls' championship run

Rockets were the only team to consistently beat the Bulls in the regular season. But never in the finals right? I mean that's where it counts doesn't it. Thats where it matters.

That’s because Chicago had no answer for Olajuwon.

@@MG-oc8cc Yeah, but all the MJ fanboys were ready to automatically give the Bulls the '94 trophy if he hadn't retired that year. So we just have what history gives us. From 1991-1993, Houston Rockets were 5-1 versus the Three-Peat Chicago Bulls. In a hypothetical 1994 NBA Finals with Jordan, the Bulls were NOT an automatic winner. Upsets do happen, and with Olajuwon and Maxwell, fierce court warriors, the Bulls would not have intimidated them like they did to other teams in the Finals. Remember, Olajuwon historically took down the defending NBA Champion LA Lakers in 1986, took out Magic Johnson, Abdul Jabbar, Worthy...and Olajuwon showed no fear in fighting back against the dirty-play Lakers in the Forum. So if someone could take down another NBA Champ, it's Olajuwon.

@@g99se9 Houston beat Chicago 5 games to 1 from 1991-93.
That bump that Maxwell gave Jordan. In this era, the player getting bump would be flopping to the next stratosphere. I miss the 90s.
Cornbread was an outstanding basketball player. He was rarely flashy, but he was fundamentally solid, played smart ball, and you could depend on him to do what was in the best interest of the team and winning games. As a wily veteran late in his career he knew his role was to get under opponents' skin, get them out of rhythm, and be an enforcer protecting his younger talent. He didn't really have much of a short fuse in the early 80's playing with the Celtics, which is why I figure he developed this "short fuse" on purpose later on. These were calculated altercations on his part, and mostly directed at the other team's top star.

LOL Those are 2 different players. Cedric "Cornbread" Maxwell played for the Celtics. This video is about Vernon "Mad Max" Maxwell who played for the Rockets.
Maxwell broke wind near Jordan & got called for fouls. What a crock of nonsense.

That's what contributed to all of MJ's rings, all of those cheap ticky tack foul calls that went his way. I remember watching his games live during the 90's.
He was crazy on the court.

And even more off of it lol.
Before Ron Artest, there was Vernon Maxwell.
Back then Thorpe was our "enforcer" but the first to any scuffle or hard foul was Mad Max. He always had the back of his team mates.
