@@thehistorysquad This was the Greatest Generation. And real men. Doing serious business. Shot a German with a longbow. Wow. And more. Oh, wait a minute. "Shot a German with a longbow". That might be "hate speech". Winston Churchill is one of my heroes. A war hero several times over and probably participated in the last British cavalry charge. Churchill also predicted the "Gestapo" these "Socialists" would become.
Seriously skilled fighter. To use unauthodox weapons in a modern era and achieve meaningful success, and survive the war to boot. He must have been brilliant.

The bow is still used a lot in gorilla warfare not just for its silence but because arrows will go through sand bags. So still a very useful weapon in modern warfare
I love when he left his sword at a hilltop after a barney. Got back to the bottom and went back to retrieve it. Met a bunch of americans on his way back down who were on their way to attack the hilltop. He said "Im not going up there a third bloody time"
I figure this guy hasn't had a movie made about him bc the audience would probably think that no single man could be that awesome.

I remember a few years ago hearing complaints about a video game set in one of the world wars, complaining that your character single handedly clearing out a single entrenchment was too ridiculous and unrealistic, meanwhile there were numerous instances in both wars that put that to absolute shame. It really gives you an interesting perspective on human capacities seeing the stuff that went on during those wars.
Adrenaline junkie in perfect circumstances. Absolute legend. Full respect.
People tend to underestimate the effectiveness of a bow & blade but in the hands of someone who knows how to use them, combined w/ clever tactics they can be just as deadly as anything else. After an afgan fighter tried to stab me I started carrying a 16 in blade w/ me just in case. I found my standard issue knife inadequate.

@@craigthescott5074 I had a first gen Glock 21 way back in the late 90s and man I wish I still had it, they are huge lol. A glock19 has been my ccw for the last 20 years at least, to me, a Glock is just a tool, don’t care about them getting scratched up or loosing it, taken by the police if they need it for evidence after an incident or getting it wet from sweat or fishing. Safe, reliable, accurate, affordable, large capacity, thin and easy to conceal, no external safety to fumble with in bad circumstances like blood all over your hands and they’re the most prolific ccw out there, you can get parts anywhere. I’ve got several sweet 1911s, SIGs, FNs and so on, just can’t think of a good reason to carry a Gucci pistol that doesn’t perform any better than Glock though. Also, I was kind of joking about the knife/gun deal, my old dress up combat boots still have a gerber guardian with the sheath permanently sewn to the right boot, they’re awesome little guys, I’m guessing that’s the one you have as the markII is a little long lol.
I heard this story from my Grandad ( a Normandy Veteran) . A true British hero , all the lads and lasses were , but mad Jack was another level. The kind of character that’s sadly missed in today’s society. Another great upload. Thank you 💂🏼♂️🇬🇧

My grandpa told me just a few things about WW2. because he could not realy talk about this time. He was never willing to do so but had to fight or get shot for not joining. So as a german it's a toppic for generations not to like. But as an archer, ohh boy I love that storry of a guy facing modernisch war with Bow and arrow, a sward beside. What a Hero indeed. Even so war is a cruel thing with so much suffer for all taking part of it I hope humanty get rid of as soon as possable. Brilliant man. I also had many of my English great uncles WWII stories growing up
Amazing chap. I imagine the Bosch were still waiting on their Genoese crossbowmen ro set up pavisses. Jack Churchill married Rosamund Denny. I looked up Reginald Denny in IMDb to see if she was any relation. Reginald had no sister. The latter Denny is of interest because he was from an actor family, and toured the US as a child. He came back to California and got involved acting in silent films. In 1917, he returned to Britain and was a pilot with the RAF. After the Great War he resumed his Hollywood career -- making the cut when Talkies hit Town, due to his experience with legitimate theatre and a deep baritone voice. Denny became iterested in model airplanes, while off camera, and soon got immersed in that hobby. He later owned hobby shops in LA. During WWII, he furnished the USAAF with flying RC drones for aerial targets. His most famous employee was Norma Jean Mortenson who worked in the propeller shop. She was quite photogenic, and Capt. ''Dutch'' Reagan of the AAF's First Motion Picture Unit ''discovered'' her. Later she went by the screen name of Marilyn Monroe. Reginald Denny and his connection to Ms Mortenson may be an interesting film. He was part of the Hollywood colony of Ex-Pat Brits who could always play the ''Stiff Upper Lip Sort of Chap'' on short notice. Getting back to Mad Jack: He has a listing in IMDb as well, for minor roles in ''A Yank at Oxford,'' [1938]; ''The Thief of Bagdad,'' [1940] before shooting ''Ivanhoe'' in 1952,

Surprised you didn't mention his brief career as a POW and his subsequent escape because he didn't want to miss the rest of the war. Another fun fact, he is widely credited with introducing surfing to the British Isles having learned it while on detached service to train the Australian Army in paratrooper operations. Better a bow than just a simple swagger stick that so many English officers carried when leading their men (from the front) into battle! It’s always amazed me the guts and confidence they must have had to do that, especially in WW1. In 1, there were per capita more English officers killed than English soldiers, and they still lead from the front and more often than not only armed with a stick and sidearm

I heard he had been captured at one time. And as a Commando he would have been shot. That story was in his brother Thomas’s book “commando crusade” and you heard it (and just recounted it) perfectly. I have a relative who makes bows. We think he may have one of jack's hung on his wall. It's a longbow from that time period, but it's abit lighter than the one he used, it was probably a trial one that was made before they got the weight of it right. It's a beautiful thing either way.
