It was great to see something more Macro Photography from you. It's been too long since last time
Hi Thomas, thank you so much for your videos. I live in South Africa, I'm familiar with those mites on the millipede. They are a parasitic species that lives exclusively on millipedes, and are immune to it's cyanide rich blood. They have tiny weevil like proboscis that pierce the gaps between body parts, and slowly suck it dry. Gorgeous shots, thanks for your amazing work!
Your calm voice and story telling approach make watching your videos so enjoyable!
Just saw your video about debunking spider myths, I'm so glad I was recommended that vid, I wouldn't otherwise have been able to watch this video, too, and fall in love with this channel! I'm a musician with a love for arthropods, and your professional photography + video editing combined with your lovely guitar playing is just the best production value I've ever seen in this genre of KZread videos! Thank you for your work:D
Mr. Shahan, you should be a photographer for National Geographic.

It's more about the shape of the diffusion or bounce card. Its nothing major that money cant solve. But he seems to have found what works for him and the quality of the photos are wonderful.

You do such a great job presenting and narrating! Oh and of course shooting insects! Keep up the excellent work!
Biology never fails to amaze me and that includes us all. I wish I was a healthier and more intelligent person, but I feel grateful that others share with me what they have learned and discovered. Thank you.

At least you are willing to learn, enough people will not admit to saying what you just said and learn about it.
I used to have pretty severe arachnophobia, but after doing my own macro photography and watching these videos, I've slowly started to overcome it.

I N C R E D I B L E thank you, this was a great treat to watch. I could not be more impressed, not only by the variations of insects but the excellence you demonstrate with each and every image. Thank YOU!
I absolutely love your channel! Your videos have a very calming vibe. Anyone who watches can tell that you love what you do and have a great respect for nature. Thanks for another great video! :)

Wow just absolutely wow! I’m impressed beyond words. I really need to give macro photography a “shot”. I know it’s not a easy art form but it looks so incredibly worth a try.
Wonderful to see not just the macro photography, but to see that you cared enough to share a brief introduction to Mozambique, its history and its natural history. That is special! At the 7:03 mark we get a brief glimpse of your setup. As a wildlife photographer who is very interested in macro photography, I would love to know how you were setting up your diffuser. I think I saw a Gorilla pod on the far side, but couldn't tell how it was fixed and what it was holding. My wife gifted me a Laowa twin-macro flash setup for Christmas, after I saw you review it and told her I'd like one :) . So I'm pretty keen to know how you organized your setup. Thank you for sharing your passion. Greetings from India!
Awesome video, you inspired me to do my own macro photography KZread channel - Thank you :)

Welcome back Thomas, another great and long awaited video. 👍🏻👍🏻
Awesome Video! Glad you enjoyed Gorongosa National Park so much!
That was so cool! Mimic insects are some of my favorite. Probably my most favorite picture I've ever taken was of a hover fly on a dandelion in my backyard. The width of the flower was greater than the frame size and the details on the fly were razor sharp. Those super closeup shots of the jumping spiders are so much better though... You have inspired me.
My Macro Photographer, you're inspirational, not just your photo's but your personality and attitude on the little creature's in life.
Great to see a new video. As always amazing content.
Thomas, thanks so much for posting this. It brings back memories of a great trip. Your work is always spectacular.
Cutest jumping spider ever!!! 💜
Awesome shots man. Good to see you uploading again. Keep up the good work .
That's my favourite Christmas present so far. A new Video from Thomas Shahan! Thank's Thomas for sharing, it is still absolutely wonderful and inspiring.
It makes me so happy when i see others like this revealing just a little sliver of beauty, wonder and marvelI in our bugs. Because i am not setup to do it myself, i feel a little redeemed when others do. I live in Costa Rica and i casually witness so much on a regular basis in the spider world as well as the obvious gorgeous moths, beetles etc. But something that can get overlooked here is the really tiny insects with their weirdo shapes and behaviors. I hope someday i can capture some of the stuff and share it with you. Thanks for sharing
Amazing work! Glad to see you back again!!
Awesome trip and great shots Thomas , the eyes on those jumpers are super sharp ! Just amazing
I swear the jumping-spider on your hand was looking at you (like a human would look at you.) It's amazing that you got the mites on the millipede as well as the spiracles on the millipede's shell. 🤯
That’s got to be one of my favourite KZread videos yet! I’m off to Africa next year so as a keen amateur arachnologist and photographer I thank you for posting! JP 👍
Great video and great shots as well!! Congrats, man. Loved to see something more macros from you after a long time!
Amazing as always ! Welcome back 😁👍
I agree 200% with the previous comment.., AWESOME.., JUST PLAINLY AWESOME!!! Thanks for sharing this with us Mr. Shahan..!

Nice shots Thomas, what a cool trip!
Immer wieder beeindrückend, Kompliment!
"Look at this dung beetle I found. And then picked up in my hands!" I hope you washed up before dinner. Jokes aside, glad to see some more macro-photography from you again Thomas. Love your pictures, love your music, and love your narration.
jumping spiders are my favorite.. love how you can see them watching and examining you.
Incredible how you catch that moment with your camera, what incredible focus and composition. Great work
As always i love your great macros, especially seen in a video like this. Compliments and regards from Switzerland, Marcel
Finally, after waiting for a long time you uploaded a video. Thanks Thomas!
Fantastic stuff! That tarantula looks like it belongs in the genus Pterinochilus. Probably murinus and the "dark" color form. Great finds!
Thanks for a new video on macro photography! It's been so long!
Thank you. I was happy to see a new video from you.
Thank you for this film, was having a rough day and it made me smile
Thomas, so nice to see you again. Your photos and vlogs I miss very much. I hope one day you get a chance to come to Oz to do some spider photos. Very nice vlog as always

I was so excited when I saw you had a new video out! :D Those ant mimics were great. All these shots make me wan't spring back already. Old wet Oregon is keeping most my little buddies at bay for now : (
Great video. Loved all the jumping spiders.
Man, your portraits are really very beautiful. Appreciate your work. One of the very best ive seen so far.
Very nice, amazing pictures!
Really cool of you to share your beautiful work. Thx.
Oh Thomas you’re back, my favorite macro hero.
Great video and pictures👍
Great video. Superb photos.
WoW! Again and again...Thank you !
wow what a great video and soundtrack! For me this was a trip of a lifetime and I learned so much form you! I literally have large prints of some of the same bugs you show in this video on my walls - in particular the stalk eyed fly,. Thanks for putting this tigether, really captures the spirit of the place and the trip!
Wow. Amazing creatures, beautiful shots.
Great Video. I love your narration.
This makes me so excited! I'm currently saving up for my own macro lens! Around my parts (Oregon) The only jumping spider I've come across is the zebra spider, they're my favorite, and so gosh darn cute! Photography actually helped me get over my fear of spiders, and I'm hoping that it will help me get over my fear of some other local insects! Keep up the good work!
By far the coolest macrophotography video I have ever seen. Those jumping Spiders look incredible. Man, thank you for the content!
Another great video thomas, keep it up
What a great opportunity to get to go here and take so many great photos.
Thomas - Another video home run! Right outa the park. Kudo to you.
The detail in the images is amazing and the size of that jumping spider !
Thanks for bringing some macro magic into our stay-at-home lives. I love your photos on Flicker too. The world is a wonderful, amazing, and beautiful place when you take a good, close look at it. I hope we can turn things around and save nature before it's too late.
The Pictures you are able to take are insane
Very entertaining. Thank you for sharing.
Stunning photography.
Please post more videos!! Thanks for this one.
Love the video! Just found the channel from 'recommended'. Subbed
Thomas, mad respect for you. merry xmas and happy new year.
Great, amazing. Images are beautiful.
Awesome Video
This brings back so many memories. My dad worked for about 5 years in Beira's harbour to rebuild the infrastructure and basically get the harbour "working" again towards the end of the civil war. (we're from The Netherlands) As a result, I (together with my mom, brother and sister) spent about 1 1/2 years (combined) "living" there as well, as well as spending quite some time in Zimbabwe. I was ~8 years old when we first went there. I'll never forget it. Amazing countries, with amazing people, flora and fauna.
Wow. Thanks for such a beautiful video.
Absolutely brilliant dude. Just wow
Very cool images
What an awesome educational vid. I admire your work great job. 👍
An amazing video!!!!!!! Thanks.
some of those pictures give the feeling of a painting, it's pretty impressive
Stop making me like spiders with your soft music and Bob Ross voice! Damn you! , theyre so cute.
Wow great video.
Decent stuff! Thanks a lot for sharing. :)
Thank you so much for sharing, simply amazing.
Amazing pictures, would have loved for you to go into some detail on your setup with the paper(?) and lights and all.
I subscribe not only because you’re an awesome photographer but also because I love jumping spiders!
so happy to see another macro video from you. There would have been interesting scorpions all around you there, the vast majority being harmless. Next time you go let me know and I can get you the info you need to be safe. Anyway, thanks for sharing your great shots and informative video
@Thomas Shahan you did choose well for your first trip to Africa! I am Portuguese living in the UK and I have got friends that regularly go to help a charity near Gorongosa Park in Nhamatanda. Maybe one day I can go there and then upload videos on my KZread channel covering my photographic sessions! I just love the spyder biscuit!
Thanks for visiting the country where I was born. Love your pictures and the sound track

Beautiful video thanks!
I 💕 love spiders! Your photos are great. When I was looking at one of the jumping spiders, the green eyes brought to my mind the old song: "Green Eyed Lady!" That jumping spider you held on your hand was huge! Never saw one that big before! The Tarantula is a type of the Baboon Species, but I can't tell you which kind now that I have given away all of my books on Arachnids.
Brilliant documentary! Hope you come back to Africa again. Let me know when you're in South Africa!
Brilliant photographs. Salticids are awesome! I would love to improve my macro skills. Will check out your site. I wonder if when photographing salticids, did you ever have one jump on and off of your lens as if defending territory from the reflection? I had an adult Phidippus audax do this from a rock it was perched on. It did this several times.
Wait so long for your video.. Thanks for uploading..
