I love making a macrame planter this time of year and adding some greenery to my home decor after a cold, gray winter, don't you?
This boho plant hanger is super beginner friendly. It works really well with a 4 or 5 inch pot, but you can adjust the square knot spacing to accommodate a larger or smaller pot.
SUPPLIES YOU'LL NEED//
▶︎ 3mm macrame rope (mine was 2 ply) in the following lengths: bit.ly/35nQgeJ
- 6 pieces @ 92" long (inside cords)
- 2 pieces @ 146" long (outside cords)
- 2 pieces @ 24" long (wrapping knots)
▶︎ 2" wooden ring: these ones are the best!: tidd.ly/3sEkxPn
▶︎ sharp scissors
▶︎ a potted plant in about a 5" pot (can be a bit smaller or bigger)

NOTE ON CORD LENGTHS: I just went in and retested this pattern and made the starting cord lengths shorter- I updated it to the proper lengths in the description so you shouldn't have any wasted cord now. I'm SO SO SORRY about that!!! 😓Thank you!

I made this but when I put a plant in it the spiral at top pulls straight. Any ideas?
Beginner here👐. First time doing this, and I love how mine turned out! Thank you!
Back in the day (late 60’s and 70’s) I did a lot of macrame with friends and made a huge plant hanging for my boyfriend that included a round glass table. It took me months! Now here I am 50 years later thinking hmmm, I should make a few simple plant hangers and found you. I’ve forgotten everything I ever knew and as a visual learner, this is a perfect video!! Thank you for sharing. I’ve subscribed & found your blog. Well done!!! 😊

Hi, I just used this tutorial to make my FIRST EVER macrame project and I absolutely love it! I wish I could send you a photo of turned out perfect, your instructions were clear and easy to follow and like I said I have never in my life ever made anything before! Thank you so so much I'm delighted with myself!!
Starting back with macrame after 40+ years. Your tutorial was excellent. I’m anxious to get back into it. Thanks for your help 😊
Thank you for the refresh. Use to do these in vacation bible school as a kid. Want to hang plants out this summer in my starting over in a new state big beautiful porch! Thanks!!❤
This was my first macrame project, and it turned out wonderfully! Thank you so much for your video. I can’t wait to do more. ❤
Made the most beautiful hanger just at the first try. Thank you
Thankyou so much!! I made this today it only took 30 or so minutes! My first time doing macrame and I think I've got a new hobby now 😂. I can't stop saying to my boyfriend how impressed I am with it! Instead of just 2 rows of knots I did 3 , and I like how it looks, like a diamond 😊◇ thanks again! I'll be making more 😍
Thank you for the easy to follow tutorial! I used a thick cord, and finished in record time 😊
Thanks for a great tutorial! I've never done macrame before, but I was able to successfully make a plant hanger following along. ❤️
So pretty! I’m a crazy plant mama and love these hangers. Need to attempt to make one.
I just made this!!! Thanks for the tutorial! I'll be making many more!
I’ve never touched macrame before and successfully made this! Great tutorial!
Absolutely marvellous tutorial. Definitely showed how to make in a perfect way. Many thanks. I know what I am going to be doing this weekend 🙏
I used this technique to replace a hanger on a drying rack that broke under the weight of wet clothes. (Cheap junk, but I didn't want to buy even more plastic!). Thanks for the tutorial. After I was making the knots, I realized, I used the same technique years ago to wrap my headphone cords so they wouldn't crimp or break. LOL at relearning old things. You also conjured some memories of my crafty grandmother. Thanks for the video lesson!
Liked the instructions given with the distance between each alternate knot. 👌🏼👍🏻
Thank you! This was my first macrame attempt and it came out great!
Yes I followed the tutorial demo and I finished in good time well done. Thank you.
This was easy to follow, and my hanger came out really nice. Thank you!
Great tutorial! So many "beginner" projects on KZread feel like too much for someone starting out but yours was perfect! Thanks!

I love you so much 😲 I was thinking of making a lot of small plant holders, but didn't want the top part to be just the plain hanging ropes... this design was made for me! Thank you!! 🥰
Thank you with the help from this tutorial I was able to make a pretty awesome plant holder for my spider plant with lots of babies.
Thank you ❤ I got my first macrame plant hanger following your guide 😊

Stunning! Thank you ❤
I love it. Thank you.
I love this so much!!! ❤❤ U make it look so easy and are an excellent teacher... tysm .. very excited to try this❤
Very beginner friendly 😊 loooove thank you!!
This was an excellent tutorial. My 15 yr old daughter and I just made it! We had only 1 hiccup. We used 5mm instead of 3mm cord and what happened was after the top swirl/twist and tie off, all the cords were not the same length. So when you said to start the next part, we were like...which ones....but thankfully my brain was functioning properly and we undid the top a bit (undid 9) until all the cords were even on the bottom and so we ended up with less than 25 in the twist. But it came out perfect after that adjustment. Love it! Thank you!💞
Thank you. Loved making this 💕
Great job. Very helpful!
Thanks so much for that! It's quite an effective piece given how simple it appears to be. I'm looking forward to having a crack at it!😊
I am a first-time macrame-er and found your video so easy to follow. I have 4 more to hangers to make so I will be checking out your other videos for different styles. Overall it was relaxing and fun. Thank you!

I did it! I can’t believe I was able to! I used jute so it was a bit hairier… but worked out well. First project like this. Thank you for the tutorial!! I did end up slowing down the video to .5 speed for the knots.. that helped a ton 😊

Great tutorial! Thank you! I did have ALOT of excess at the end. However I don't know if my cordage was smaller than 3mm (I ordered that but it varies sometimes) I used, for the inner cords, 80inches. And for the outer cords 140inches and it turned out almost the perfect length!
@karinadowse4662

I had a lot of hanging cord too at the end. Next time I do this one I’ll make them shorter so as not to have any wastage. The 6 cords didn’t need to be that long 🥴

Your mother in law needs one of these for over her kitchen sink.! Please 😊
This is adorable 😍 thank you for sharing!
I cut back 10" less in all cords. There was still 8-9" extra tail that I cut off. I think it depends on the material and thickness of the cord
First macrame tutorial since the 60’s. Missing in the beginning is the starting length of the cords especially the 2 longer outside cords. I added and extra foot to the longer ones but it wasn’t enough. Thanks

I LOVE how easy this pattern is to make! I'd like to adapt it to different sizes. I know the lengths on the tutorial apply to a 4-5-inch pot. Is there a "per-inch" formula, so I can make this patten in any size I want?
Thank you for this I made one for my dads birthday and was so easy to do, it’s got a spider plant hanging in mine ❤
Quick tip- next time give us a view of the entire project because it is sooo confusing about how to hang it up and how much rope we need. A tutorial on the initial set up would be hugely appreciated. I’m dying here
