Macintosh Gaming: Chuck Yeager's Air Combat

Probably the first flight combat sim I've ever played... This game featured 6 (count em... 6!) Flyable aircraft, over three different wars (which all look like the same damn area). Here I'll run through a single mission with each of the aircraft available.
The Macintosh version of this game was in glorious 640x480 and also had head to head multiplayer over appletalk (something which the DOS version didn't have...)
Yes I know the fonts in-game are screwed. It's an issue with Mac OS 9 that happens even on my Mac G3 or Performa.

RIP Chuck Yeager. This game kept me occupied for hours as a kid. I even got to meet him in the 90s at an air show

Learned the basics of my craft from playing the Abbeville Boys mission on Expert setting many, many times until I could pretty much knock them all down on the first pass. The game came on one 1.4 Mb floppy disk, unbelievably. I disabled the pop up window feature where Chuck would appear at certain moments dispensing his wisdom because I found it kind of irritating. This was ground breaking stuff in its time and I loved it very much. This was on a 486 IBM compatible PC, BTW. Happy days!

MY GOD! Takes me way back to my fathers "office-room" where i spent hours up on hours playing this game at winter. Best thing was, i was so young i didnt understand anything of what was said or written 😆 Its the same thing with Disneys Zorro... And now... When i can understand English... It takes a lot of the magic away... 😥

I bet, they used some of the system built-in routins for polygon displaying in the window enviroment on Mac. SVGA on PC probably was a hard coded solution.

Yes its remarkable how in over 20 years modern game studios have been incapable of improving the gameplay of air combat games. Or did you actually think that better graphics makes a better game?

RatioHatesTheGame I wouldn't make any claims about your own capacity for nostalgia, your inability to tell the difference between good game design and pretty pictures on the other hand...

Gakoranus You do know this design is static as shit due to it's age right? Everything is just a complete abstract representation of what it should be. Good design back then but now days all the little tricks they did show right through. Not exactly a timeless classic.
