Cool now I know why rims commonly have 5 bolts… cause it’s easy to do in your head and math is hard lol

    Also a big part of why 360 was used as the number of degrees in a circle. Divisible by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 18, 20, 24, 30, 36, 40, 45, 60, 72, 90, 120 and 180. Lots of options for clean math!

How do I convince people to be less scared of math? Do you use excel or other spreadsheet or planning software in your shop?

Love the whiteboard talks. Any machine shop with a periodic table on the wall is one to go to. People there know shit.

Geometry methods. If my 75 yr old memory serves me well. Scribe the pitch circle. Draw in a diameter line left to right. Divide the diameter line into five equal spaces. Scribe two arcs from each end of the diameter line with centre on the intersection of the diameter and circumference and radius set to the diameter of the circle scribe intersecting arcs below the circle drawn. From the intersectional of the two arcs draw a line through the second step from the left end of the diameter. To cut the circumference above the diameter line This will be one fifth of the circumference which can be stepped around the pitch circle. For more holes. Divide the dia line into that number and draw the intersecting arcs below but always use the SECOND diameter division.
