ah the good old days , they are long long gone . now its a huge fight (right to repair ) just to be able to fix the new machine that you bought , never mind something second hand which they can say is obsolete !

Line boring is still done daily, parts are fabricated and repaired when unavailable, electronics don't affect the iron that still breaks and wears out

Who’s fighting you over line boring an old piece of equipment? Nobody.

Can tell the clowns that have never owned equipment. But they feel entitled... per the internet.

Line boring isn't something that's applicable to right to repair. You can't effectively control someone's metalwork

I often wondered about this with line borers set up with cones. Always seems like a very inaccurate way of doing things. Doing repairs on crusher stuff you come across issues with re establishing holes all the time. Always nice to have something to come off … or abit of educated guess work sometimes gets you through

The Cat loaders from the early 1970's had such a tight midship area. There is very little room to work in there compared to the newer loaders. Until the very end of the video I thought this was a rear-steer non articulated loader like a 966A. I grew up running (and greasing) an early 1970's 950 and 966C with the tight midship area. After a while you learn at what angle to park the loader and at what angle to put the arms and bucket so you can get at all the grease nipples. We kept our loaders in good shape but even so the bell cranks used to wobble back and forth when you drove them.

Remote grease lines... Cheaper than the labor that won't grease them with any degree of certainty.

I've rebuilt "that" link. It's an interesting design because at a glance it appears to be a simple link of parallel pins. However, other than being parallel, nothing else matches anything. It appears that a slightly different design would've allowed the link to be something like a simple weldment of parallel flat plates. It almost seems like the OE design was deliberately complicated to prevent simple "re-creations" of the link being built in the field? Maybe there were less nefarious reasons, such as providing cylinder barrel clearance? Or maybe things were simply aligned with a map of downtown Peoria IL? lol
