    I love how honestly Josh mentioned he found out he wasted 200 dollars, this level of realism is only possible when you spend your hard earned money. Not so likely to happen on a review unit. I also think maybe DaVinci or Final Cut could have used those extra cores better but it's not very practical to jump ship when you're invested in an ecosystem of software already just to get rid of buyer's remorse. Very good video altogether. :) I was waiting for it for a long time

    I have been in need of a new laptop since about September - my old Dell has been consistently breaking down since then. It was during my painstaking process of trying to find the best buy for my use case as a student that I encountered your channel. I ultimately decided I wanted a Mac, but I had been waiting for this video to come out because of how much I have come to trust your judgment regarding what the best option for a use case similar to mine might be. I now feel confident in finally buying the 14" M2 Pro base model. Thank you, Josh, for your consistent trustworthiness and sage advice.

    @@maxjames00077 there are probably many professional tasks for which they’re designed not to get hot. But in gaming (even light gaming, when not optimized), they get volcano hot. There’s been too much rhetoric about them being magical in some way. It’s a bit luck of the draw which they are optimized for (heavy web browsing, content consumption, professions tasks I don’t do) and which they behave as though they’re an intel machine without integrated graphics or a heat sink (light gaming, even some supposedly native to apple silicon). Make no mistake, they get hot and can be easily pushed to last 90 minutes 100% to 0. No magic here.

    Thanks for all your work. Validated I’m happy with M1 Pro 10core 16GB 1TB 14 inch and M1 Max 32GB 1TB 16 inch. One is perfect blend of power and portability and the other is my desktop replacement I mainly used docked. Grabbed both on decent sales last year too as in the uk m2 had big price increases due to dollar to pound. Glad I cancelled my full spec M1 Max 14 inch preorder as well due to all your testing and others than showed thermal throttling and bad battery life on that model.

    I watched this video, as you suggested it in your latest one. The 16" M1 MBP is just a beast! I knew I wasn't going to need to upgrade to the M2. Sure, some minor improvements, but nothing I would notice. The screen, speakers, and track pad are already best in class. Everything I do on it runs snappy and fast, compared to other machines (Win/PCs) I've owned. You may notice a slight (seconds) difference with them side-by-side, but you won't if just have the M1 MBP in front of you. It's just going to be super quick and rock-solid. Incredible battery life. If you have an M1 MBP, there's no need to upgrade - enjoy it for years folks! ....If you are upgrading from a Windows PC laptop, save $500 to $1000, and get an M1 MBP. There's some GREAT deals out there now.

I'm curious because of rumors that Apple may adopt touchscreens on its 2025 laptops because of the integration wanted with iOS. For example, having a car without a fully functional touchscreen is annoying when trying to utilize an app that is optimized for a touchscreen environment.

    I went for a discounted 16 inch M1 Pro in October for the exact reasons you mentioned as sound buying decisions in this Video. Yes I would have liked 32GB just to be on the safe side. But I would have had to buy a discounted Max model instead as the I would have had to pay retail price + the upgrade fee had I added another 16GB to the M1 Pro thus bringing it in line with the price of a discounted M1 Max model. Knowing full well that my m1 Air was fast enough for the video editing I am doing. I only went for the 16 inch due to the screen quality and the screensize with the extended battery life compared to the max model as an added bonus. As I am using my M1 Air while traveling and my M1 Pro at home I am really happy with my buying decision and are not planing on upgrading my computer hardware for a foreseeable future. My phone however might be upgraded after the release of the next iPhone.

  • @huliajiggs

    @huliajiggs

    Жыл бұрын

    In my opinion, you don't need to spend that kind of money on the 30 core GPU. Since you're a photographer, not a videographer, it might be overkill. The 2TB SSD is overkill for photos too (get a large external HHD for storing the photos you're not working on... much, much cheaper than SSD and fine for storage, so you could afford a massive HHD for the same cost as a much smaller internal SSD.) Unless you are swimming in money and really don't care about the cost, that is. Being a media person as well, I used to think like you and get all the upgrades, then because I'd spent so much, felt like I had to hold on to the computer for a decade. The downside is, then something like a revolutionary new chip comes along and you feel like you have to wait. Getting something a little more basic (which isn't that basic nowadays!) and upgrading more frequently would have been a better strategy in terms of value, and I could have had a much better computer sooner. Apple's upgrade protocol makes that super easy and efficient too, where you trade in your old computer for a newer one and just pay the difference. Mac's hold onto their value quite well, much longer than other PC's, and the more recent the computer, the higher the value comparatively, especially in the first few years, but after that it tends to lose value more quickly.

Your video is the greatest summary of what to get, since I am not following tech trends, like I used to. It shouldn’t surprise anyone the M2 is simply a generational jump. The major display/chassis overhaul is done and dusted, it’s just going to be processor updates to keep it competitive. No different to older Intel Macs or Dell XPS devices that kept the same design from 2016-20 and only had spec bumps between then. If you skipped the M1 Pro and waited this long then this is the reward where you can pay the same amount and get a slightly faster device with slightly better battery.

    I don't agree with your complaints on the 14 inch MacBook Pros. They're smaller, so of course they're going to run warmer and hotter. And as much as I hate to say it, is there a laptop that can come close to the M1/M2 Pro 14 inch MacBook Pros in that form factor? Apart from Asus with their upcoming ROG Zephyrus G14, I don't think so.

    OMG ! That was the BEST review from all (hundreds) that I have been watching for the last 3 weeks. You just compared that I couldn't find anywhere else M2 14 10c vs 12c, and the results are indeed interesting. I wanted to go 14" 12c upgrade, but right now I am not so sure because of that heating issue and battery, its less efficient, and I do not even know if I would use that additional 2 core performance anyway. But I have a question anyway, is that make sense to upgrade base m2 14" to 1TB(to improve SWAP speed, and storage ofc) and 32GB RAM(sacrificing 12c/19c version), I will use it for programming, some virtualization maybe, a lot of chrome tabs, etc. I know macOs RAM management is probably better than windows but anyway I am not sure if 16GB RAM will be enough? I had MBP Pro 16 inch Intel 2019 one time, that was super loud, without useful ports etc ,and sold it just before M1 came in, I wasn't super happy with macOs, but wanted to try one again with an improved design in smaller chassis. Thanks, BEST review on YT.

I would rather get the 16 inch if the 14 is an absolute dumpster fire but again, 14 inch is ideal for travel. 16 GPU cores obviously. You would have better battery life. And there is no way you will be rendering videos and streaming at the same time. If you will, what's wrong with you. I'd say go for the base M2 Pro 14" model. It is all you need, unless you need 16" for some reason. And if you aren't already using more than 12GB of RAM during all the tasks that you do on your current computer, getting 32GB of RAM would be a waste of money. You may even want to get a used M1 Pro base Macbook Pro 14" to save a significant amount of money. You will get close to zero performance improvement over M1 Pro if you go for M2 Pro when it comes to video editing, so definitely save your money. For the money saved, you can buy yourself a $60-90 microphone for streaming.
