I've seen a whole bunch of videos about MacBook Pro and you are really the first who recommend buying 32+ gigs or even choose more cores, you are amazing. I really felt bad because of those youtubers who make their videos just to check the mark in their schedule. Everybody was saying "i bought the basic config and this mac is amazing" but no one has ever said that to make some staff like video editing, or photoshop, or some work with 3d, or even programming but using something like Docker, running heavy applications you need to have more than 16 gigs of UNIFIED memory(that is a key really) and at least 1tb for ssd

Very good video. I went through a lot of this thinking when going for the M1 Pro 14". I ended on that because I could not accept the 8gb and 256 gb in the 2020s. I'm very thankful I did, because to my usage it's still performing like a dream. I could see the same thing happen on a larger scale if you're a media creator with lots of high resolution work flows like you eloquently explained in this video. Personally I am still satisfied with my computer. The screen, speakers, ports and microphone are very good. You didn't mention the microphone, but it's a very usable "studio mic".

I was at the same spot the past months. I got the 16" M1 Pro MBP in early 2022. In January of this year, I started to get back into programming, and it was nagging at me. I saw them in the refurbished store and this weekend I had a friend tell me he wanted to purchase a 16" MacBook Pro but did not have the money to spent CAD $3200, and so we started talking about mine. I write mine off in about 24 - 28 months so that I have some to spare in the run-up to the third full year. It made sense to sell him mine. Sold it to him, and he picked it up today. I turned around and ordered the 14" MAX 32Gb, as in the refurbished store we don't get to specify the upgrades as in the normal store. I need the 32Gb, the rest if gravy. For a brief moment I considered the 15" and even looked at the 16" again, but the refurbished store just did not have the right systems. I paid for rush shipping, and it could be here as early as tomorrow.

I've owned the M1 Pro with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage for a year and as a video editor, I can't believe how good these chips are. I just got done editing 4K BRAW footage in Final Cut and coloring in Davinci Resolve and it was blazing fast. I can see the benefits from the Max line of chips, but for what I do on a regular basis, the M1 Pro does it all. If you're an editor you're probably using proxies anyways, but this thing can handle BRAW without any issue. Exporting a ProRes 422 4K 10 minute-long fully colorized with a ton of nodes from Resolve took like 20 minutes. The fans didn't even start up. My only regret is I should've gotten the 32 GB of RAM!

I regularly work with 4K+ raw/log footage, hefty sound editing, colour correction and grading, VFX and other similar film industry post-production tasks. Thanks

32 GB ram upgrade is insanely expensive though, I was considering whether I should upgrade to 1TB SSD or 32 GB ram as I'm a music producer and I work with huge projects but the 32 GB ram is insanely insanely overpriced. if the 32 gb ram upgrade was priced similarly to 1tb SSD I would've gone for the ram upgrade as for the storage you can always use external, but no choice when it comes to ram.

yo, how did you get that super super smooth b-roll at 10:00? I'm not much of a videographer but my first instinct was to say that is a render and the camera was entirely digital. but I noticed a tiny jitter in some of the other b-roll earlier, so... is it just super high res camera that's been stabilized in post? For some reason that caught my attention. leaving a comment for the algorithm. video looks good and audio is good. I hope you find the success in this increasingly tight tech reviewer realm, earned a sub from me anyway.

Hey, I initially placed an order for a 15 inch MacBook Air M2 with 16Ram and one terabyte…. But then realized for a couple hundred dollars more I can just get the M2 14 inch MacBook Pro. Or just get 512GB SSD 14 Pro for a decent price. My only gripe is I usually don’t connect to an external display and was wondering if 14 inches is big enough because I really don’t want to spend so much money on the 16 inch pro. Apple really needs to release an affordable external monitor that doesn’t cost $1500.

For me its different. I have a desktop running Ryzen 5950x with 128gb ram and m2 7000 with 2tb plus swap drive 4tb and NAS at 20tb plus two 4090 graphics card. Its THE workhorse for heavy lifting tasks. It runs Windows with linux Shell. For deep learning and machine learning, AI and video coding 4 and 8k content it rocks. However dont store all stuff on your main drive, store what you work with. Store the rest on a swap or NAS when you're done. When you are done with a raw video file or photo and have finished the corrections and edit. Store the edited file in export format and delete the raw. I did not before and man it stacked up terrabytes of data i never ever had to edit again. Now that is in my Office and i do enjoy to not live there, and to have something to use when I am on the go, in my living room, Coffee shop, travel etc. Before I used a macbook pro for this from 2008, it lasted until 2013 then i got a top soec Dell which has lasted me until now 10 years actually, ram and storage still outperforms the base macbook air so its still surviving. However i use it less and less, no backlit keyboard, monitor is not very bright or good resolution +++ I had an ipad for a while and it was great to watch content and take notes, but it was not very good for productivity. So now i'm looking at a new laptop, i will put the old in my garage for part database etc for motorcycles. Therefore i am looking at a new one. I did like my macbook and it would be great to just test out mac and ios programs and content for. But I do not need a lot of space or massive power, i just use the desktop for that and the NAS for storage. On the go i use ultrafast removable storage to backup and keep files. So what will it be used for? Sitting and programming in my living room when I get good ideas, rough edit photos and videos on the go. Emails, browsing, online banking, taking notes, write invoices, reports etc. I have been considering the base macbook pro 14 as I do believe it hits the sweet spot. I also have considered the macbook air upgraded to 16gb ram and 512gb storage. The pro is better no doubt and with the insane upgrade price from Apple for the air the gap is not massive when you spec up the air. So I guess it comes down to your usage. If you only want one computer i would go 32gb and 2tb without doubt as a bare minimum. However if you do have a desktop computer i would not bother the upgrade prices from apple is silly expensive. If you dont use the computer for anything than browsing, some photos, some home videos, email, online banking and some documents and spreadsheets. The macbook air base or maybe with 512gb storage will be fine. If you do some programming in typical study or some home programming its also fine, if you do more advanced programming 16gb memory is benefit. For content creators who makes money from content 16 mem and at least 512gb storage unless you have a NAS or similar. Who needs the pro? Heavy users who need active cooling, which comes with the downside of annoying noise when the fan kicks in. So if the fan never hits in on your pro you would have zero stress with an air. I dont think i would have any problems with an air for me, but I find the lack of a sd port irritating as the laptop is something to get pictures and videos from camera(s) and a dongle makes the small light size suddenly grow. If the air had sd port i would be fine, and a dongle is not exactky expensive, but its one more thing. Now if you're a gamer Mac is not it, neither is a laptop really they can make-do but for serious gaming a desktop rocks them big time unless you shell out so much money you could easily buy two gaming desktop which would be better anyway. Same goes for AI and deep learning in my opinion you want a LOT og ram not only for the CPU also for the graphics card, and preferrably more than one card. 64 for the cpu is not really it but can do, at least 12gb for minimum 1 graphic card unless you have a lot of time to sit there and wait. So it depends on your need, for me I need a desktop computer so I have one. I use a laptop so I have one which will be replaced soon. I am not alone and many do have both, and for those they very often do not need to spec up a loptop very much. It is to supplement the desktop not to compete with it. I would love it if an ipad could make-do but sadly they dont, then something not to far off in size and weight as a laptop would be perfect.

I’m a tech enthusiast. I used the M1 Pro MBP 14” for a year. I wasn’t happy with the sharp corners. While typing, it would dig into my wrist & it became a really big problem for me, so I moved to the M2 Air. I’ve been really happy. The display difference didnt bother me at all. 120Hz isn’t really a big thing in laptops I feel. All I miss are the speakers. I love the Air’s thinness and the lightness and also the battery!

@@ionutmititelu2083 the main reason why I moved back to the Air (M2 in my case) was because I really didn’t like the bulk of the 14” pro. Even the battery life of the M2 Air is better than the 14”. More than anything else, the 14” had sharp edges which were higher from the surface, compared to the M2 Air so my left wrist would get red because the edge would dig into my wrist. I had to adjust my wrist all the time. With the Air, this issue is not there at all!

#imadeit I just got the M2 pro 14 inch with base M2 chip and 32 GB RAM, 512 GB storage. I went with more ram over a chip or storage upgrade because I think that’s best for future proofing. Storage is generally better external anyways, since you’ll want to back things up too. For your M1, what is the battery capacity at after 2 years? I ask because I have warranty extension on my MacBook for 2 years vs 1 and it would be nice to get a replacement battery at the 2 year mark.

i love when people are somewhat disappointed with laptop audio, as compared to a dedicated audiophile-worthy bespoke stereo system... like, you are forever limited by the physics of having a couple of small speakers in a narrow band. it's amazing that they sound as good as they do, but if you want true fidelity, invest in some headphones or decent external speakers. this is always a non-talking point for me.

Why would you spend $400 on an upgrade that will give you marginally better results? By the time 16GB is not enough, it will be time to buy a new Macbook and 32GB will be the standard of the lowest model and you'll have an extra $400 in your pocket that can go towards your new Macbook. It's honestly an upgrade that makes no sense for most people.

Now that you've had the 15" MBA for two weeks, do you feel any differently about the 14" MBP? In that new video, you sound really excited about the 15" MBA. Of course, there's a very specific audience for whom the power of the MBP is quite important, and they are probably most of the folks watching this very thoughtfully done and informative video. But then there's another category of folks, who don't really need the power of the MBP but do need 16gb RAM and 512gb SSD and want a screen bigger than 13". Configured like this, the 15" MBA is $1700, just $300 less than base model 14" MBP which has the same amount of RAM and SSD. The real-world price gap is usually smaller, because the base 14" is often available for $1750 or thereabouts. Judging by this video and your just-released 2-week 15" MBA video, it's hard to tell which Macbook you're more excited about, or which you think would be better for someone in this category. Happy to be your newest subscriber! (at least for a few seconds until someone else subscribes ;)
