M16A4 CLONE after 5000RDS | BCM 20" Government Upper Receiver Group

GROUPS WITH M193 AND BLACK HILLS OTM AMMO: • M16A4 Clone with Black...
My M16A4 has performed well after 5,000 rounds of both brass and steel cased 5.56mm NATO.
This rifle is an "inspired" clone, meaning doesn't have any Colt or FN/FNH parts, but it does include things like the Trijicon ACOG TA31RCO-A4CP, MaTech BUIS, and Knight's Armament M5 RAS non-free floated rail. It also has various Bravo Company USA, Aero Precision, and Toolcraft parts.

55 gr. is the wrong ammo to use in this rifle... 62 grain is proper for a 1:7 twist... 55 grain is for 1:9 twist... 55 grain is unstable in a 1:7 barrel

@@Rebel42MDx You would have to check if your 1/7 barrel will stabilize it. Had a few 20" 1/7 barrels and I used 55gr and 62gr ammo most of the time. Never had any accuracy problems. In fact MEN 56gr 5.56 was immensely accurate for my rifle despite being plain FMJ. You just have to experiment with your own setup.

Whenever I see someone complaining about how they can't start their retro AR build because they can't find a fixed carry-handle upper, I always encourage them to pursue an A4 build instead. A perfect balance between old and new with not too many specialty parts to track down. The M16A4 is such an underrated variant which occupies an odd-spot in small arms development. Very much still an A2 at heart, but with enough modern upgrades to still be an effective rifle in any setting.

I grew up running the woods of north TX with a m16 style AR. I always ran m193 out of my 20” 1/9 twist I only hunted varmints but the damage on flesh target within 50 yards is wild. Smaller varmints like skunks or raccoons just exploded. I’m talking I’ve seen an entire side blow off an animal. Whereas my 16” DD with m193 only produces about a silver dollar size exit wound on more fleshy targets. Heads shots or ear shots on hogs have put them down every time with no running. Biggest hog I’ve taken was 337lbs that was around 40 yards.

Put in reps and training and just like anything else you eventually get good at it. In the Army its the same thing how many of my fellow service members have got the job done with 5.56 in 20” or 14.5”? Always train and remain vigilant! God speed.

Respect From a fellow M16A4 enjoyer The M16 is what the AR15 was supposed to be, and any other design comes with a lot of compromises. Engineseers of the Mechanicus have managed to make really good carbines that fixed most of the issues, but they will never shoot as smooth as a rifle length gas and rifle buffer (which can be even further improved) and with the full velocity required to make basic fmj ammo do the damage it's supposed to. I have plenty of carbines, but my M16 builds are what I always grab. My carbines are purpose built for cramped quarters use, keeping the compromises in mind. As for the con of its bulk - I am a tall guy with broad shoulders. My body bumps into my environment more than my M16 does, because I know how to manage it.

Sorry, Alex, but we don't. Before the rules changes to what I consider the 'present day' all of our Service Rifles for competition were in-fact free-floating barrels. The rifles used a special barrel nut and had a steel sleeve under the A2 handguards that actually had the sling swivel attached to it so there was no loading other barrel when in position with the sling.

How often did you clean it over the course of those 5000 rounds?

I usually put a few drops of CLP after each range session and then would clean it every 500 rounds. It definitely isn’t necessary to clean it that frequently but I wanted to anyway!

He's right, manufacturers who blast their logos all over their exterior parts are being passed by us clone builders.

Those FN Military Collectors are really nice guns. We went with their A4 and it’s just a joy to shoot.

Accuracy and Precision are not interchangeable terms. When talking about Groups, that is Precision. Accuracy is how close the point of aim is to the point of impact

Reliability is everything. Accuracy is just a detail. I couldn't care less how accurate a gun is if it isn't 100% reliable.

"It's too heavy. It's too long." Piss moan. Piss moan. I carried the M-16A2 or A4 for most of a 23 year Marine Corps career in the infantry. Look, we humped the M16 for miles and cleared more buildings and compounds than I care to remember, and there wasn't anything that we couldn't do with a M-16A4 that we did when we finally got M-4's. (The Marine Corps is the last to get almost everything.) Which I wasn't a fan of when we were issued the M-4. More than anything we lost accuracy at the longer ranges we found ourselves fighting in while in the burn barrel we know as Afghanistan. Sometimes these fights were from one mountain ridge to the ridge on the mountain 600m+ or further. Standoff range and ballistic effectiveness at range suffered with the M-4A1. That 5 1/2" inches of barrel loss meant something. Let's be honest though. A fully kitted out M-4A1 doesn't really weigh that much less than a kitted out M-16A4. The balance is just different more than anything. It's a trade off I'm willing to make though. Have a great 2024 and God bless.
