// ABOUT THIS VIDEO //
- WHAT IS A VIA FERRATA?
It’s a recreational sport using fixed cables and ladders and rungs to traverse a mountain or cliff. But the ultimate via ferrata challenge was back during WWI when armies created via ferrata routes to cross mountains (instead of going through the valley where the enemy was surely waiting).
- MÜRREN VIA FERRATA WALKTHROUGH.
Watch now to get a glimpse of the four main elements in this beginner-friendly via ferrata. The Mürren via ferrata highlights include a tightrope over a waterfall, a zipline, and a suspension bridge!
- SHOULD I USE A MÜRREN VIA FERRATA GUIDE?
If you’re like us and you’ve never done a via ferrata before, we recommend going with a guide. They help secure your via ferrata gear and equipment, teach you how to navigate the course, and guide you along every step of the way. We recommend @Outdoor, the top adventure provider in the Jungfrau Region, for an epic via ferrata experience!
- MÜRREN VIA FERRATA TIPS AND TRICKS.
We’re no experts, but stick around to the end of this video to hear our advice and impressions on topics like guides, gloves, apparel, and more!
After you watch this via ferrata adventure, hop on over to our blog to learn how you can plan an experience like this for yourself!

I so wanted to do this when I went there in 2019! Unfortunately we didn’t know we needed to plan better, so we arrived shortly before the last self guided allowed time, and the gal at the Intersport disapprovingly indicated we could not go because our sneakers were not good enough, and we wouldn’t have time to rent boots and get going in time 😣 It was awesome seeing your footage all this time later-thanks for sharing! ❤ This is on my list for an eventual return trip 😊

@@CaitlinConCuoreif you don't have much ferrata experience, approach shoes if not solid B/C hiking boots are a must, if experienced, trailrunners might do, although not a brilliant choice on ferratas with plenty iron steps and ladders...sneakers are an absolute no go! They don't provide any grip from a profile and rubber compound perspective and the sole is way too soft 🤷♂️

We're going in June too! If you do it first, report back!
My kids are very excited to do this, so it's on our 1 day itinerary of Mürren. I bought your 1 day Mürren travel guide and will recommend it to everyone interested. It's awesome. While they do Via Ferrata ,I will follow some of your options on the guide. Question: We arrive with the Swiss Travel Pass in Lauterbrunnen. Are most of the cable cars, etc from there 50% for us? Thanks for clarifying!!😊
We did this (on our own) in October 2022. Sadly the zip line wasn't available, but we totally enjoyed the rest of the hike. I remember my knees getting weak on the cliffside section. It was probably my favorite section, but also made me the most nervous. Great video! We'd totally do this again!!
@AplinsintheAlps
Жыл бұрын
How cool that you’ve done this too!! 🤩 You’re right, the zip line is only open for group tours. Otherwise there is another tightrope to detour around it. Looking back, we were more nervous than we needed to be on that cliff section. Now we want to go back and try again with more confidence!

im about to do it in a month, did u guy rent the harness and gloves in intersport murren? if so, did they explain how to put it or maybe they put it on u? lastly, how do u skip the zipline part if u dont have a guide? thanks a lot!

@@user-xp5db6oc8u - Not sure if this question was for us, but we did rent from Intersport. It's right next to the trail head, so it's very convenient. We didn't need assistance on putting the gear on, but the staff is friendly and helpful. If you've never done a trail with this kind of risk involved, a trail guide would be a great way to learn. :D However, if you decide to do this hike without a guide, you can bypass the zipline at a fork in the trail.

What a great video (thank goodness your GoPro batteries lasted 😜) I don’t think I could ever do that - mostly for the exposed cliff section - the zip wire looks great though! I’m sure I’ve seen this from the Gimmelwald - Stetchelberg cable car?

great video 😍. Can you raise the resolution to 4k
@AplinsintheAlps

Unfortunately we probably won’t be able to film in 4K. The footage files are too large and take up more space that we can manage and slow down our editing software. But maybe one day we can upgrade! 👍
I saw a video a few days of another hiker who was experienced doing this and just watching it made my heart pound so bad i had to stop watching but now watching you guys do this makes me want to do it when I visit next month. Thank you for this great video Also what type of shoes would you guys recommend for this specific activity? And did you guys use a go pro while climbing across the cliff?
@AplinsintheAlps
Жыл бұрын
This is a great beginner friendly via ferrata! You will definitely want some solid hiking shoes. We both like trail running shoes (basically a hiking boot without the ankle). Solomon is a good brand if you need a suggestion! And yep, we used a GoPro on Brett’s helmet and Jana used her phone (when we were on solid ground and it was safe to pull out of my pocket, haha)
Yeah this looks scary, I'd probably hate the swinging suspension bridge the most.
Thank you for all your videos! :) I will be going to Switzerland in a few weeks and have been binge watching them 😅 My partner and I have prior rock climbing experience and also have done via ferrata like cave explorations in the past so we are considering going without a guide to save some money. You mentioned that you need a guide to do the zipline, is there an alternative way around if you have no guide? Thanks! :)
