MURREN VIA FERRATA ON 'CLIFF EDGE' IN SWITZERLAND
The Via Ferrata from Murren to Gimmelwald is one of the most epic adventures in Switzerland. Traverse ladders and steps on the edge of a cliff overlooking Lauterbrunnen, but don’t worry you are strapped in with a harness! Read my FULL BLOG POST for all the details here: www.journeyera...

To anyone watching this with the intent to do it: I traveled from Oregon, USA and completed this via Ferrata yesterday. While it is only 2.2k and mostly downhill, the elevation change and energy burned from gripping on the bars should not be taken lightly. Even if you hike frequently definitely consider the impact higher elevation will have if you are coming from sea level!! This was an incredibly intense climb/hike and I saw many people come with no water, snacks, etc. a woman died from falling off the suspension bridge near the end last year and while I do not know the details I could absolutely believe it was from sheer exhaustion.
I've been dreaming of doing this for a few years and finally managed to do it a few weeks ago. I chose to do it in a guided group. This video was a source of inspiration for me to do it. Thank you, Jackson, for putting out this content.
This guy is doing this one handed while holding the camera with the other! I couldn’t even have the guts to do it with 6 hands!!!
Just done this Via Ferrata today. I can’t believe you did this with one hand and so casually. I thought I was quite ballsy. I seriously underestimated it.
Imagine who had to make this trail..lol
And with one arm the whole time! He's amazing!

The view is amazing, i love this trail 😍 was many times ther. Now i have a smal information, it is a speciality of this ferrata, then the beginning is higher then the end. There are only two ferratas at the moment with this special in Switzerland.

which one is the other one?
How can he move around so easily with balls this huge?
oh dude, I am shaking even just watching this!!! those views though, just incredible 🥹
Watching this for about the 20th time. Anytime my friends or family come to visit Grindelwald, I show them this video and they are scared shitless. Great video!
It was a pleasure watching this hike. This was amazing ❤️
blown away. here i am getting mini heart attacks just watching the vlog, I wish I was half this brave.
Thank you so much! Not sure if most of us can even think about doing this but really appreciate you filming! I'm sure it wasn't easy holding the camera while being on the side! 👀🙈👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼⛰🧗🏼♂️

Its farly easy thus one, you can see he was only using one hand... I would rate this one C. I do this with my 8 year old son almost every weekend during the summer..
You inspire me to not only travel, but to be more adventurous!
in this crazy world your videos are so refreshing ! thanks JACKSON you truly are a SUPERMAN ! Keep em coming bro !
This is so awesome! I'm going to do that this year too! Best video!
I have been planning a trip to Murren for a while and didn't know this existed. Thanks for adding more to my bucket list.🤣
Hey Jackson, Came across your video and the first thing I noticed is that you were using your carabiners wrong. NEVER let them both face the same direction! It's very dangerous as you could unhook both of them by mistake. I did enjoy your video non-the-less. Greetings and stay safe out there :) Niels

I've never used carabiners in my life, but reading what you said makes sense.

@@MikaTennessee Doesn't matter for that rule, the process of unhooking one could also happen to the one next to it by mistake. Having two carabiners of different design would be even safer theoretically.
How difficult it is to use selfie stick while on the edge, thank you for delivering stunning views. Such a daring man

Depends on your balance and experience. arm got tired after a while but many places on track to rest.
Wooo, still don't know why we missed this ferrata once being nearby :P Great channel, great adventures. Cheers from Poland! 💪✌🙃
You need to oppose the gates on the crabs too, so clip up, clip down, that way there’s no chance of the gate opening during a fall if you somehow manage to knock it open.
Omg... this is sooo beautiful. Now, I've added it on my bucket list.
Doing this in July looking at your video man! Doing this on one hand!! 👏👏👏 I'm thinking of just hooking my 360 on the helmet
That definitely took guts! Nice video...stay safe!
I can hear my heart thumping
Fantastic thorough video of the Via Ferrata. I'm thinking of doing this in 2 days and the weathers looking perfect for it. I've never done one before and was thinking of getting the guide but after watching your video I think I'm just gonna hire the gear and do it myself!
You inspired us to do this! Well do it this july. Hope it will be as graceful as yours. More power and keep on inspiring 😎
I have done that via ferrata, I had to after I watched your Video. Absolutely stunning, thanks for the recommendation and the beautiful video.
Epic video Jackson, you really showed some great camera angles. Thank you, Jim H Portland, Oregon
Saw this vid and immediately convinced my friends to do this when we go in July. Insane views
Hey, we did this last year, but fear prevented us from taking such great videos and pictures. Awesome vlog and thank you for the detailed review. Best wishes on your next adventure.

You thought the suspension bridge would be the scariest? Idek man 😭😂 definitely spooky but that first rock part had my heart shattered almost 😂

In person, the shakiness of the bridge can be harder than the sure footed solid iron pegs.

For me the last bridge was also the scariest 😳 when you’re on the wall you cannot actually see what’s waiting for you as much as when you see that veeeery long bridge ahead of you haha
That's nuts! Tuning in for your next adventure. Take care.
Wow just wow!!! The view is amazing! Inspired me to atry that!!
That tight rope I actually did at camp a couple of times. Super fun and super terrifying lol
Jackson Groves it was wonderful Meeting you in Waikiki many years ago. Wow.
Amazing 🇨🇭
Thanks for not naming me Jack...definitely would have done the walk of shame. Vertigo overload ! Xxxx

brings back crazy memories of when i was there
Can someone tell me what song is this
One handed!!!! You are amazing!!!
Great report from this trip 🙃 I already want to go there 🤩🤩
Just done this ferrata with my husband yesterday. Was an amazing experience. The bridge was definitely the scariest part.😅
Been there 3 times w/o any harness. Up to the base jumpers point. Then went back up.
Great adventure! Thanks for all the info!
Did that 5 years ago. 3:20 is really scary. It is really just a shot part that is that much exposed, but it made me thinking about going back.
😅thanks for sharing👍🏻
Such an amazing adventure I want to do it
Awesome video!! Great shots. You made it look easy. I'd probably have both hands in a death grip on the cables. Don't know how you did it with just one hand, especially down the ladders.
love the video i appreciate the effort put in to narrate and climb
Thanks for the video! Your name is bouncing around in Switzerland and my group will (hopefully!) be replicating your adventures. Good stuff
Amazing.
That is excellent! Never seen this until now.
On the cliff hanger section, my sister made a video call to her bf who cannot stand heights and he didn't enjoy that at all, lol We also got to observe two wingsuit guys gear up and jump off of that platform by pure chance.
Can't wait to do this
Thanks for creating this amazing vlog.
SUCH A BRAVE SOUL. AWESOME BRO
JACKSON!!! What song is this?!?!?!
Whuaoooo! Amazing! I would like to try it!
Those huge steel balls of his must weigh a ton 😁. Just looking at that is making me have anxiety. And he is doing it with a selfie stick on top of it. 🤦♂️😱
Wow, amazing, thank you for this beautiful blog! I am just about to go to Lauterbrunnen with my boyfriend, he will do the Ferrata, but it is not for me, I've never done this type of thing before haha.
Looks epic. Thanks for sharing.
My memory there isn't that positiv. Was there and not able to walk. Later on never had a chance to do it again. Became disabled age 26. Love to See you
The swiss Are so mad, imagine taking your 3 year old kid on this hike😂
Amazing views, but I wouldn't be holding a selfie stick doing this!
Back ground is so nice. Can u tell me name background music name?
Always looks like it wouldn't be bad on video but I know for a fact I'd turn around 😂
Thank you so much!! Did you say a three yr old child was doing this???
Man wish i had the courage to do a hike like that think i would pass out in parts.
Verry, cool Video and verry cool Klettersteig
Nicely done!

Lovely video jackson. I subscribed your channel within few second of the video. Seriously breath taking. Hope i will be going to swiss again in end of this year for eve ferrata. Can you please share the name of that background song, i loved it!!!!
What is this song??
Jackson!!! O M G... just watching this hike gave me some serious shivers, I literally felt my heart up in the throat. Please, is this hike for crazy people? And I'm asking in a good way.... what about the 3 year old? I so wish i could do this hike. It looks amazing, out of the world. You have done a fantastic job filming it! What a job! Thank you.

@@henrychanner4032 this is helpful, thank you...can you share which points and what helped you get through them?
Can you please say, which sneakers do you use for this hike?
For those who've done this, what are the best gloves to use? I have some sticky rubber gloves I used for the cables on half done. Would those work?
What ???! The family behind you had a three year old 🤯! Seems like he is on the back in one of those toddler carriers.😮 Nevertheless that's crazy..I was trying to imagine my 9 year old up there😅
Insane! Great video, thanks!
I did this a couple years back... and can’t believe u did it with one hand! Although, I think the open face was more scary than the bridge. *** there were actually some guys with parachutes who casually passed us by on their way to the platform to jump. They weren’t clipped in with a harness either. Crazy.

yeah was tought to do one handed but how else to film ahah
My God Why are doing these?! Vertigo overload just by watching 😭
Great video covering the valley. which sound track is that btw?
Great job, now to invest in an Insta360 One X2 camera and that pole would be digitally stitched out
Great video... do you happen to have the same without the background music.??
2:30 what is the elevation? How high is it at that point from the valley?
I'm travelling to Switzerland soon but I've never done a via ferrata before. Do you recommend this as a first?
What shoes do you recommend?
It's a good idea to clip the carabiners in opposition so you can't open both at once by accident! :)
awesome, i going to do it next week
Freaking me out. You brave gnarly person you :)
Holy crap!!! I wanna do this! Can a beginner do this? I have fair upper extremity strength but dayummmm!!!! I wanna! 😍

This is so cool! I just found out about this, and it was interesting to (kind of) watch you go through it. I don't think I'd ever have the guts to do it (or physical ability lol), but good to know you at least have a harness and clips. When I first saw a picture of this, I thought you only had the footholds. o_o Still gonna be a hell no from me, but I'll live vicariously through your videos. :)

Actually, you need harness and a fall absorber (it's a single use item - always check if you are renting) that comes with clips. If you use harness and clips (connected with a regular climbing rope) you are guaranteed to break your spine during even shortest fall. Might as well leave the harness at home, at least you will be fully aware you have 0 safety equipment. You also *need* a helmet (it's super easy to bump your head on some rock outgrow) and you will really, really appreciate gloves (since most beginners climb by hanging on the metal rope). Via ferrata's are ranked from A to E difficulty-wise. A/B anyone can do, as long as they can walk. C will require some mild athleticism (can you do a single pull-up? you are fine!), D will require good shoes and level of athleticism and E is... well, I don't go near E's :D The ferrata he did was B/C - I can promise you you could do A/B easily and enjoy it.

@@borek772 I think it was pretty clear what I meant by harness, but interesting info. Glad there's a lot of safety stuff required. I don't think I would do any via ferrata regardless of difficulty, though, because I don't like heights (assuming they're similar). Even if it wasn't like that, I'm still not a a huge fan of physical activity. lol
Amazing!!!
Can you please tell me which camera did you use?
Amazing video man!
Amazing yar love from india
Bonjour ou pouvons nous garer la voiture pour faire la via ferata ?
Do you think barefoot shoes would be okay for this? Like vivo primus trail.
This is amazing. This is my next trip. I’ve been looking this up for awhile now. Is this open in the winter or just summer and fall ?
