MëgäBrick! 450HP Track Modified Volvo 850 T-5

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A fella named Tim Williams visited me with his very special Volvo T-5... A modified Volvo is not uncommon, but one carrying parts from a Jaguar Project 8 is pretty unique.

    Tim Williams is an absolute legend in the UK Volvo community. What he doesn't know about these cars isn't worth knowing! He invented the "block-mod" for the 5 cylinder motor that went into the Focus ST MK2 and stopped many of our cars from getting cracked cylinder liners.

    If you do end up going for 1 go for an 850 not the V70. Don't be fooled into thinking they are the same 850 built when owned by volvo v70 was peugot or ford owned and fell to peices., I had an 850 (96) which was bullet proof like drove 100 miles no oil in it and was totally fine. Biggest problem in 10 years was cutting out when stopping at lights (needed new cat) and a seized brake caliper once. Yeah I had to change brakes and pads and other just stuff that wears out. V70 well it fell to pieces, all the electrics started have problems and many other thing I never had to touch on the 850 and spent about 4000 in the 4 years I owned it, both cars were 2nd hand with around 130k when I bought them.

  • @jaunteraudi817

    @jaunteraudi817

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@VolantFool Yes, its the same platform, but i think they are two different cars. Volvo kind a tried to make them better, but in my opinion they failed a bit in some of the models, but it is Fords fault, they where saving money and it was shown. I have some volvos in my garage 240, 740 turbo, 850 2.4 petrol, v70p80 turbo, my 850 is from 1996 and it has more than 500 000 kms and still no problems with electronics, interior, engine, and drivetrain, only rust starts to eat it, but that V70 form 1999 at the same kms is not that good in quality. Jeah, its kind a comfortable, but seats are not that soft as in 850, all the window regulation buttons started to malfunction or brake down, had to replace them all on all doors, same goes for some of instrument panel buttons, their soft touch material peals off and then it looks disgusting, then door leather starts to segregate....on all of the doors, door rubber seal starts to peel off, had to glue them back, then rear window wiper brakes down - had to trace a broken wire behind rear seats. Some lights wont go away in instrument cluster - check engine comes up, goes away, comes up....stays for two days, goes away, ABS starts to malfunction in some periods, and the hardest is that i cant find a problem.....looks like there is a big problem in wiring, but it takes a long time to find it where, so i am not even trying to repair it anymore, but if you can find a V70R P80 - grab it and never let go :D Its just my opinion, if you have both of them for a longer period you will feel the difference.

    I had an 850 T5 too, boosted up another 50 or so horsepower. I remember tuning back in the day was difficult past about 310bhp without massive engine internal changes. The focus RS version of the lump was not out then. It was a fantastic car and had legs on the typical rally rep cars of the day (Evos and Scoobies), which always surprised them. I always figured those had lots of 4wd transmission losses. Handled well, obvious torque steer was easily manageable.

    Misha, I would say get rid of the VW tractor and get you one of these! More power, an actual station that can be used both on track and off-track to carry parts around and people. Also my father had quite a lot of Volvos back in the day and their engines are bullet-proof! He told me a lot about the 240/242 Turbo he had and 940 as well and all the really old school boxy Volvos there were back then. Also lets not forget these things are practically tanks on wheels, if you do crash one of these the repair costs probably would be cheaper than expected but ofc lets not forget about how much you need to pay for the Nurburgring itself in that case.

    The person is driving it like I would myself. Speeding up from within or after a corner but stay a bit sober when entering or approaching the corners. Too bad mine is FWD so it will never be driven there. Thumbs up for fast Volvo's!

    What a cool car! I had three 850T5 estates - two stock and the last modified for track days. Wish I hadn’t sold them and often look for one but now so rare and pricey. Loved the handling of each, not as frisky as a Clio Cup etc. but very stable and still easy to make the back swing out a bit to cut understeer . Though torque steer was hilarious. The last was a 240,000 miler I stripped out, had Racelogic Traction control, Powerflex bushes, modified brakes etc for track days. Sold to a guy to use in hill limbs but never heard how it did.

    The owner seems like a proper gentleman 🧐🎩 I also like how there just happened to be another Volvo at the start so we could see the speed difference.

    That Porsche at the beginning was also probably shocked to see this old station wagon keeping up with him. Back in the day, Volvo was a major force in rally racing and racing in general.

    Great stuff. I had a 96 850R Wagon (US spec was 240 HP). They were great family cars and could really get going on the highway.
