I have a W1213 Miele washer that has a corroded drum spider failure. I have been looking hight and low for a replacement for the failed drum spider and from your video it looks like the steel spider you used would fit my drum.

Hi, Would you know if there is a replacement/alternative drum spider for a WS 5427 MC 23 or should I give up? Thanks

Hi, the W1 series does have a Alu spider, like all Míele models have since 1998 there they changed to the Alu spider, but i've not heard of any broken ones, this weak alu spider was prone to break only on the late W900, W300, W400 series of washers, tho i seen some of the 5/6KG W2000, W3000 series break but that under very rare circumstances . This conversion from alu to steel spider can only be done on the 5KG models, the 6 KG models uses a bigger drum which another shape spider which won´t fit from the 5 kg models.

The old version drum spider isn't casted steel, it is forged steel. Big difference.. 😉

Hi Electroluxwasher, wonder if you could help me briefly - as you seem to have a hell of a knowledge of older Mieles? I have a Novatronic Premier 500 which has gone crazy - think it needs a new panel/controller. In the meantime, I've got hold of a W360 that "needs new bearings". Predictably enough, the bearing problem turned out to be a broken ali drum spider. Is there any way of making one good unit out of the two? I'm hoping to be swap the drums completely (obviously swapping the motors). If this isn't possible can I exchange the inner drums?

Hello. It should be possible to swap the drum/tub over mechanically. But you will have a problem electronic wise as the waterlevel calibration will be wrong. The W360 has a 5kg drum while the Premier 500 has a 6kg drum so waterlevels wil not be correct

@@Electroluxwasher Hi again, and thanks for getting back to me. Have to admit, your reply surprised me. All the gen I have with the Prem 500 (including the Miele handbook) suggests it's a 5Kg machine - i.e. no program allows more than a 5 Kg load. Is this one of those weird cases where they've used a bigger drum but the motor's only rated for 5Kg max? Re the levels: if the drum's a bit bigger, surely that's only going to mean it'll to take on slightly more water to reach the same levels? Having just pressed new bearings into the old drum's spider, I think I'll eventually recondition that drum with a steel inner spider. I've tracked down the German guy who has a few - thanks for the translation of the search term! In the meantime we're having to manage with our camping twin tub (great bit of kit, but the 1.5Kg max load makes big loads tedious) so I'm keen to get one of the Mieles operational ASAP.

Any chance there is a retrofit for a Novatronic w1986??? Machine works perfectly after 18 years but the aluminum drum spider has literally dissolved.

Yes, the stainless steel spider wil fit the W1986 model, that’s the 6Kg US model. Its the same drum as the EU 5Kg Miele model just the 6kg drum is a little deeper

Would having a deeper drum affect the fit of the spider into the machine? So many questions I know but you have been most helpful. We bought a new Miele W1 washer since and we do not like it at all. My wife wants our old machine back. Thanks in advance.

@@bobblackadar7675 Hi. As the spider was never sold separately theres no part number for it. The deeper 6kg drum has the same diameter as the 5kg so the steel spider wil fit no problem. If you search for " Miele trommelkreuz stahl" you wil see some spiders for sale mostly from Germany so don't know if they wil ship to were you live

I have the w5872 model. Which model of spider would be suitable for this model?

The spider seems to have cracked on our W304 Plus after 18 years, Odd as the water is very soft in the Highlands of Scotland. It's been a great machine, the top has never been removed, Not even a set of brushes after being used 5+ times a week for 18 years.

They mostly crack because of bad washing habits, but i've seen machines with a very clean inside and yet they have a cracked spider, but if you fancy changing the spider its still possible if the rest of the machine is in good condition ofcouse

Hi electroluxwasher, i got a 8 year old miele w 5869. The innerdrum is recently misaligned with the outer drum. I'm pretty sure it's the spider. I've got prey good welding skills. Do you think it's possible to weld a custom stainless steel spider to the axle of the old spider?

I know I am not who you were expecting to reply but today I was repairing my PW5065. It has a broken spider too. I replaced it with a spider recovered from a w377. That spider from the 5kg machine fits this 6.5 kg machine. I suspect the spider size is standard and the volume increase is from increasing the length of the drum. According to the internet the drum volume of the PW5065 (6.5kg) is 59 litres, the same as an 8kg W5965. Hope it helps. Regards

rmariu , thanks voor the reply. Meanwhile i took out the broken spider and thought a older spider would not fit. So i made my own from the old axle. First atempt was not stirdy enough. I made some reinforcements, and now the machine is running perfect. If I had known sooner the it one would fit, I would have tried this first 😂. Thanks, hope youres is running fine too!

Sorry for the german version. Now in english: Did you only swap out the spider or did you’d to change other parts as well? I want to do the same with my w985 but someone told me, that the outer drum must be changed as well.🤔😞

You can change only the spider or find one drum with spider complete that's no problem. I also changed the drum bearings and seal while everything was out, but if they are in good condition you don't need to change them

@@Electroluxwasher Thank you for your answer! :-) I now have a different "Problem". There are people who say, that the newer style drum don't actualy fit the older steel spider because the middle rubber part doesn't touch the drum. What is your opinion on this?

@@DieSirenenwerkstatt You need a drum or spider from a model not older than 1995, as before that they used a drum with larger perforation with wil not fit your model. So any model from 1995-1998 or wil fit perfectly fine

And just to avoid confusion the steel spider sits ONLY in the W800-W900 model with HAS 6 pushbottons, and spin selector dial, the later models with only 2 pushbottoms have the alu spider. :-)

@@Electroluxwasher Okay, thank you. One thing i might add: I have a W986 from 1997 which does allready have the alu spider.

Would you consider such a repair manageable for a person who's moderately talented in terms of mechanics? I want to exchange the aluminum spider of my W377 since it already breaks down, flushing out black metal crumbs with each load. The machine does this since I bought it refurbished 5 years ago and has run 16.800h so far, which is mental if you think about it. Are there any special tools necessary for this job? I mean, I repaired some minor malfunctions like e.g. a broken pump myself in the past with no issues. And, did I understand correctly that any 5kg iron drum spider will fit my model? I desperately want to keep this baby alive and also I'm worried whether it might be hazardous when the old spider breaks during spin cycle with 1600rpm..

Hi. Amazing that it has lasted that much with broken spider. But It not hard to change the spider if you like you say are into mechanics or have some experience in reparing washing machines. You only need standard tools. On your model the front and both side panels can be removed so its a little easier than the W800-W900 series models were only the front and top can be removed. If the rest of the machine is in good condition its worth it. I recommed to change the bearings and seal while you have the drum out 👍🏼

Alle Miele vaskemaskiner har brugt stål spider som aldrig gav problemer. Men efter 1998 og frem, skiftede de over til alu spider, og de første modeller efter skiftet havde en del problemer med at de ikke holdte og gav efter dog viste problemerne sig først efter 6-10 års brug. Asko maskiner har også altid brugt stål spider indtil 2007, hvorefter Asko også gik over til Alu spider, dog har jeg ikke hørt om problemer med dem.

Det var da ellers syndt at alle nu bruger alu i stedet for stål, især når man ved at det på længere sigt kan give problemer. Og det er ikke ligefrem nemt at finde en før-1998 maskine i god stand nu om dage.

Hmn tror nog inte att det är iron cast, det är alu legering i cast form. Förut var det då riktig stål. Tolleransen var större med stål.

Does tge iron spider also fit in an W504 5kg washer?

Yes, you can get the stainless steel spider separatly without the drum, they are interchangable between the series W700-800-900- professional WS5425-26 models

@@constiff Yes the stainless steel spider wil fit the W300-W400 models, just remember there are 2 different steel spiders one upto year 1995 and one from year 1995-1998,for the w3-400 models you need a spider from year 95-98

Electroluxwasher Hm, interesting. Because in the future when I get 18+ I will become an appliance collector and one of the machines I'm planning to get is a Miele W397/398 (released in 1999) and once I get it I will replace the alu. spider with a stainless steel one

Nope sorry it won’t fit as the 6-7 kg drum spiders have a bigger diameter and different shape too, you can only swap the cast iron steel spider between the 5 kg models like the W800-W900-W300 and 400 series. What model is the spare drum from?

miele should take this matter seriously and change the drum spider here in Greece 7/10 miele machines are dead because of the spider some of them no i have watched much damage when they use liquid an low temp only while when they use only powder and high temperatures drum spider is fine maybe bacteria slime and moisture eat the drum spider combined with bad air of the drum when the machine is finished we should let the door open for some hours thank you for your advice

No problem, but yes many times it is because of low tempreture washing + using only liquid and its bad for the alu spider, and is the reason why they break, even the professional PW 5065/55 machines use the same alu spider, i've some of them broken too

is your Softtronic drum from a 5Kg W400 series model?, if yes then the steel spider would fit, but the steel spider wil not fit to the 5kg W2000 softtronic series.

I have just dismantled my 5Kg WT945 washer dryer only to find that one of the spider arms has cracked. Apart from that, the machine is in very clean condition and the bearings are fine. I am now trying to source a pre 1998 cast iron spider in the hope that I can repair it. Just wanted to check with you that it will fit before buying. There is a cast iron spider on ebay but I'm not sure which model this came from. The price is 149 Euro's plus 30 for postage which seems expensive. I understand from your video that the W800 or the Royal W921 use the cast iron spider. Are there many other models I should be looking for which also have a spider that will fit my machine? Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers and thanks for your time

The model number is not important as the same model number is made through serveral years, just need to be pre 1998 model, you can tell from the door/start options buttons if they are horizontal placed which spin speed selector dial it should have a cast iron spider, if the buttons are vertical placed just like your WT945 it wil have the Aluminum spider. but if possible just buy a complete machine which cast iron spider, as a complete machine is many times cheaper, than buying only the cast iron spider :-)

Hello again. I have found a Hydromatic W698 for sale, still working for £50. Just wanted to check if this has the cast iron spider that will fit my Novotronic WT 945 washer dryer. It's about 100 mile round trip to collect so wanted to be sure before buying. Thanks for your time.

Hi, I just bought a fully functioning 10yr old Miele GalaGrande XL W6000 (W6547) and want to buy as many spare parts to stockpile them as I'm planning on keeping it for a long time. Where and how should I search for a spider arm? Doesn't matter if its stainless steel or aluminium, just need a replacement part. Also, great content and keep on making. I have watched your videos since I was just a wee lad, and I'm 21 now!

Thanks for commenting! 🙂 I don't know which country you live in but for a used spider arm I would look on eBay or other similiar sites for them, because a new spider they only come complete with the drum. For your W6000 series you can use the spider from any W5000 and W6000 models

One more question: how did you get your Miele to do the slow-fast-slow Softtronic tumbles? My Miele only does the Hydromatic tumbles as far as I know.

And the Softtronic tumbles will depend on the soaking phase at the start of the programme so it will adjust the tumbles based on how much laundry is loaded and sometimes extra options will also change which tumbles is gonna be used 🙂

@@Electroluxwasher I have done only Cottons and Minimum Iron cycles with Water+ and sometimes Short, so could it be that these affect the rhythm? Also at most I have only filled up to halfway with clothes and/or towels, largest load I have done was three large pillows. And yeah, maybe some day I will post videos about my Miele on my channel. I'm just kind of vary about it since I got bullied a lot as a kid because of it.

Can this be done to an w3722 with 6kg drum please?

The only difference is that Softtronic is the models with the gentle Soft-Care drum and the Novotronic is the models with the normal drum holes

There are no stainless steel spider that wil fit the Miele W4840, its a US model so very different size compared to EU models
