it s a heavy voice with a heavenly melody accompanying it....... it makes excellent listening....almost sonorous scholarly rendition unsurpassed in the 'nuances' of pure pristine carnatic music...............really very soothing and exhilarating.....

Oh ! The great MDR is soaked in one of his favourite ragas, Ritigowla taking us along with him. It is like Nectar. How I wish he goes on and on with this Raga. I cannot bear to see him conclude the raga.

the meaning of the song: Is it better to immerse oneself in ADVAITA, or be in DVAITA? it calls the FIVE ELEMENTS to witness, and puts in the "court" of the SARVASAKSHI - the universal witness. Of course, there is no answer; but the song reflects the deep thoughtfulness of the theme. MDR brings it out, beyond words.. contrast with how semmangudi sings it next cd

MDR has a unique way of singing.True music lovers will always enjoy his style of singing.

No words, MDR a class one vocalist particularly in mandara sthayi keeping sruthi is very very difficult & melody but MDR all time great I am listening MDR concerts, recordings from past 55 years. Every time virtually crying we have lost's great Master.

I had the opportunity of hearing his Concerts in Krishna Gana Sabha in Chennai . He always gave a soulful rendtion of the kritis he took and the nuances of the raga would always be there. Vidwans used to say that he sang for them.

MDR is exceptionally devotional while chanting keerthanas...Reetigowla is such a masterpiece that nobody could even come near to his voice...Gem of a person

Only Ustad Amir Khan comes close to MDR'S music at least in terms of grandeur and depth.

The kalapramanams particularly mantara stayi nobody can give such a life as mdr used to give. He was a dakshinamurthy of music,who can replace him. The contemporary musicians sing for money to present themsellves with lavish jewelleris and costly sarees. There is no nadopasana. How can clasical music survive.

Why bring in ladies? Very sexist. There are so many male singers whose sruthi goes off -, except I dont think it makes them lesser musicians. Why do we need to decry others to praise one person? MDR is of course good. Who doubts that

Most musicians today DO seem to have less Sruthi suddham. But it's not especially in female musicians. But there are still a handful of consummate musicians who will be remembered as the legends of tomorrow.

I'm a mad fan of MSD. My father Shri P.N.Venkatrama Iyer used to tell us that MSD was called ' Tholla Kutty' meaning ' boy with heavy voice' in Palakkad in his early days, and Chembai directed him to Tiger Varadha chari.
