Lost in the noises they call voices Then resonates again languid MDR Then you realise the closest lump Of glowing dust to sun's hot lust Is reason for a poet to compose His verse thus in grave grammar Then sung with that same ardour Rare is such a lamp in such cold Dead darkness, hence the width Where notes are all noteworthy And pauses with pensive poise Thus unraveling wisdom's depth.

His Rethigowala, I challenge nobody sing "PARIPALAYAMA* I forget myself likewise in Sahara , Husein etc. What a synchoranising of sruti. Perfection personified...He is not for masses but for know led gables. UNIQUE MUSICIAN NOBODY TO REPLACE HIM..THOUGH HE WAS THE DICIPLE OF TIGER VARADACHARY, HE EXCELLED HIM.

M D Ramanathan was so unique by his style of singing... with extremely deep, booming voice totally different from his appearance and rendered songs at very slow pace, thus the audience can catch every phrase of a composition and gauge its meaning. Class rendition of the Dokshitar kriti - 'budhamaasrayaami satatam' in nattikurinji ragam. Presented a wonderful Charanam, and the swarakalpana . Pranams to the soul of erstwhile maestro MDR. Reminded of the Swathi Thirunal Kriti - 'jagadIsha sadA.. mAmava paavana ' in the same ragam .

Reminds me of Thomas gray. Full many a gem of purest ray serene The dark unfathomed caves of ocean bear Many a flower is born to blush unseen And waste its sweetness in the Desert air. MDR can create poets just by singing.

Kodi pranam for sharing this video, Ranganathan Sir. Look where the microphones are placed. That is the peculiarity of his sound, and rendering style. The violin and mridangam maestros enhanced beauty to MDR's performance.

Budhamasrayami Ragam natakuranji jumpa Talam Muthuswami Dikshotar Krithi This is the 4th Navgraha Krithi on Planet Mercury Angaraka, the son of Shiva and Earth, as 'born of Earth' Constellations Gemini and Virgo Symbolic of the intelligence and wisdom of Budha P budhamASrayAmi satatam suravinutam chandratArA sutam || I seek refuge in the planet Mercury always. Guru Guha is delighted to see his form. He is enemy of Kuja Graham. His ornaments are gem-studded crown, armlets, bracelets etc. He is the lord of Gemini and Virgo Rasis (constellations). He holds book. He belongs to neuter gender. His servitors respect him. He is devoid of sin. He is benefactor of Siva's devotees. He is ever cheerful. A raga that is most suited for bringing out sringara and karuna rasas is Nattakurinji. A pleasant raga, its phrases are very graceful and when handled tastefully, this raga can be quite a treat. Mostly suited for singing in the evenings, Natakurinji is easily identifiable owing to its unique Aarohana-Avarohana pattern. A derivative of Harikambhoji scale (28th Melakarta), Natakurinji features the Sadja, Chatusruti Rishabha, Antara Gandhara, Suddha Madhyama, Pancama (on rare occasions), Chatusruti Dhaivata, and Kaisiki Nishada. The order of notes in ascent is usually SRGM / NDN / PDNS, (sometimes SRGMDNS) the jagged pattern adding spice to the arrangement, and in descent SNDM / GMPGRS happens to be the natural flow, although SNDMGS also finds place. Natakurinji accommodates two types of Aarohana and Avarohana patterns. Natakurinji is best heard than written about, as is the case with music in general! In Classical music, several special pieces, including ‘Manasu Vishaya’ by Tyagaraja, ‘Budhamasrayami’ by Dikshitar extolling the virtues of the planet Mercury, ‘Parvati Kumaram’, once again by Dikshitar, occupy places of pride. ‘Nachai Vidavakura’ of Mysore Vasudevachar, the varnam ‘Chalamela’, and the Tamil kriti of Oothukadu Venkatakavi ‘Paal Vadiyum Mugam’, are spirited and attractive.
