The way Palghat Mani Iyer handles the merciless pauses from MDR is simply amazing!!

Whenever I listen to MDR,l recall memory of my late father RAMARAO, whose voice and slow tempo had been just as divine., celestial, charged with vast experience of profound emotions...l fail to find words to the flow coupled with abundance control it it's best

Peaceful and heart touching good voice very nice

Slow songs when rendered with the sort of control that MDR has, transports you to another world. The trance is even more blissful with accompanists like LGJ and PMI. Just before "gaLamuna shobillu"..... PMI gallops like a royal horse drawing the kings chariot down a cobble-less road. Fast but not once is it intrusive or over powering. MDR proceeds in his usual unhurried manner, both keeping the layam fixed like a metronome. Such impeccable sense of music. Blessed to have even listened to such divine music. And the magic MDR weaves around the "shobhillu". Wish he had taken that line for the neraval.

He was undoubtedly the best among the doyens.. Though most people realised it much later after his death. . He is Vincent Van Goh of music.. much ahead of times..

What a musician he is!!!!! I'm actually one from todays generation ....but I understand that the old masters are really unsurpassable ...today people watch more of voice than music That long silence after 11.30 and then at 12.11 he starts the charana....out of the world

The lines “galamuna shobhillu..” The only way this rendition could be even more perfect is if he had chosen this line for the neraval. The way he lingers on “shobillu” is simply mesmerising.

One of the best musician .Once you start appreciating his music all others are only distant second.

MDR was person who sings after understanding the meaning of Lyrics.The Pauses are well tempered.Yes it is a challenge for Rasika to appreciate his music.Most people rendering in high pitch produce some noise at some point in the Kriti.

A unique & great musician without any parallel seen anywhere then and now. Those who have attended his live concerts can recall even today his personality, mannerism, etc, by keeping their eyes shut while listening to his recordings. .

Unparallelled music. The recording sound quality is nothing to write home about. In fact, even the tanpura sound is barely heard. So, there is no opportunity for extensive harmonics. Yet, there is something incredibly majestic and reposeful about this music. Sri MDR's music goes to the essence of nadhopasana. There is no aarbhatam (drama) because it is not meant to stun the listener out of their senses. Instead, it is a guide that gently transforms you to see the world of music as a living experience in which the performer, the performance, the listener, the sruthi, the raaga, the bhava, the taala, the layaa all fuse into one indistinguishable unitary experience in which self-consciousness dissolves into an indescribably beautiful state.

Kali Adimai Singing in high pitch is not the hallmark of good music. It will be some time before you can appreciate MDR. His shruthi shuddham is legendary. And at his shruthi, even his high pitch will sound like Chembai's or SSI's lower octave.

@@kaliadimai2374 you are not matured enough to listen to MDR..no offense. You need to reach a level of maturity in your taste in Carnatic music... only then, you can enjoy MDR.... he is undoubtedly the ultimate word in Carnatic music

@@kaliadimai2374 his sri raga is the best....there is a rendering of endaro which goes for almost 1 hour..the kalpana swaras at the end is unparalleled....he is better than everyone else because he squeezes out every single nano drop of the raga and presents it. carnatic music is not about high pitch or singing in 3+ octaves...it is about how much knowledge you have about shruthi, swaras, ragas etc. If mdr sings sri ragam at 50 occassions, each of those 50 aalapanas and kalpana swaras would be different. every single time, we would feel that he has taken out complete ragabhavam...but then, he comes up with some new combination of swaras giving another dimension to the ragam.....to understand that, you should understand ragabhavam

One wonders if Sri MDR had to learn sangeetham it flows from him like a river, in flow gently caressing each swaraas like flowers! Can only conclude MDR samana Sangeetha vidwaan na bhooto na bavishyathi
