Most profound Keeravani ever. Today's singers are unfit to be conferred Sangita Kalanidhi.

Ni is touched by Sri LGJ around 17:00 , and Sa is touched at 18:10 , that one whole minute in between, is such a craving for that Sa. This is Keeravani at its finest. Goosebumps. Makes me realize how costly patience is these days..

Perhaps it's no wonder Sri MDR seems to be crying out to Lord Rama in anguish here, having been a great Rama bhakta himself. Also, how wonderfully mellow and unobtrusive Sri Vellore Ramabhadran's mridangam is, perfectly in harmony with the mood of the rendition.

the younger lot have so much to learn from this rendering. Shows the complete maturity, control yet equally the experimentation in the singing. The total immersion in sangeeta sagara.

A scholarly rendition of Keeravani, embellished with indescribably sweet phrases and overflowing with Bhakti , making it a memorable experience of pure and unalloyed melody and the highest degree of classicism supported by scintillating ,mellifluous violin and carefully modulated percussion....what a splendid example of the kind of delight that Carnatic alone can provide!! Thank you very much for sharing! A. Kurien ,

This is the most creative rendition of the ragam and krithi. Such slow paced unhurried rendition has been lost on the younger performers of today. Keeravani especially lends itself to such interpretation.

Indescribably sublime! How can one put in words the feeling when one closes the eyes and lets oneself be taken away to Sri MD Ramanathan's world as he paints images of bhakti, longing, majesty... this is out of the world. The other artists, in particular Sri LGJ have been no less spectacular in elevating the listener.

Have been listening to keeravani - multiple artists since morning and this rendition of Shri MDR got me goosebumps the second he approached this raaga alapanA. Immersing himself into each note/ swarA sthanA of this raagA, every sangadhi, every choiciest word of Shri Thyagaraja , every virtue of Shri Rama, Shri MDR touched Crescendo of Rama Bhakti! 🙏

aswin aravind completely agree with you!!! And glad that you picked just one of my favorite MDR piece here... I remember listening to MDR’s “Entharo Mahanubhavulu” on a very early morning (after a fight with my friend), and when he called me in the morning, I told him “I have no problems with you, I am listening to beautiful Sreeragam by MDR”...

Why does nobody sing this way any more (except TMK maybe)? 🥺 People sing/play only Hindusthani raagas slowly. Carnatic ragas are always sped up in concerts.

Speeding up needn't necessarily imply loss of musicality. Carnatic must least try to ape Hindustani (and the inverse is almost improbable). MDR could afford this kind of slowness because of his excellent baritone.
