M.A.S.K Switchblade Vintage Toy Restoration For My Good Friend Luke - Kenner 1980s

Ойын-сауық

M.A.S.K Switchblade Vintage Toy Restoration For My Good Friend Luke - Kenner 1980s.
I picked up a MASK Switchblade which had a few issues including what I now know to be a common problem - a broken propeller release switch.
Here we dismantle everything, fix the propellers, come up with a fix for the release switch, re-chrome the side engines and generally give all the parts a much needed clean. Finally, we rebuild step by step.
This Switchblade has now made its way to my good friend Luke at Reynolds Reviews.

Wow!!! I mean seriously mate wow!!! I knew a lot of time and effort would have gone in to this, but no idea just how much, your bleep machine must be burnt out lol. But allow me to say it one more time, thank you so much, that video has given me even more reason to love this vehicle when I look at it, it takes on yet another meaning to me, you are just a straight up amazing guy, and I'm honoured to be able to call you my friend 🙏. Thanks so much Dave

We all enjoy collecting and the hunt, but seeing this go to a good home and friend has been even more of a buzz! Thanks Luke for your kind words!! 🙏 Right must get some new batteries for the bleep machine 🤣

You are a patient man. I started disassembly on a parts Switchblade but gave up halfway through, once all the springs started flying. I shipped it off to Joseph. Mr. Hands, the engineer, will hopefully have better luck, especially your video to help. Great work!

This video should've been entitled "I hate springs" ... mate, this was an amazing restoration and I could really feel the pressure and stress you were experiencing throughout this. My misses asked what was wrong (because of the face I was pulling as you put it back together) 🤣🤣🤣 and even though this was an 'edge-of-the-seat' watch, I thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed it! But wow Dave it was worth the effort, you saw Luke's face when he was running around the house! 👌

Just for the record, THANK YOU for making this video. Not only was it super cool to do all this work as a gift for your friend, but as of yesterday, you also helped me, as well. I recently got a 2nd incomplete Switchblade, because my first has a broken clip that supposed to hold the Rotor down. I had planned on using the 2nd's main body and putting all the missing parts from my 1st on it, but... Turns out, although the 2nd had a properly functioning clip that holds the Rotor down, one of the tailfin clips, that holds the wing back, was broken. I almost just tossed the 2nd one in the ol' parts bin, but I remembered this video and decided to take a chance like you did. The part where you show all the inner springs and gear placement REALLY helped and after a bit of struggle, and thanks to you, I now have a fully functional Switchblade! One bit of information you may find interesting, my first attempt was to use the top of one Switchblade (with the functioning Rotor clip) and the bottom of the other (with the unbroken Wing clip) and just screw them both together. I discovered that one had a larger center screw post and they would not go together flush in the middle tailfin section! Try as I might, the gap would not close. So, I ended up just taking the Wing clip spring section out and putting it in the other and it all worked like a charm. I was so confused why that screw section would be made so differently, but it was night and day to look at them! ;) Hope you don't mind this long message, but I wanted to thank you for helping me in my repairs. Not only did you do a good deed with the repair/restoration/gift for your friend, but your video was more than just entertaining and informative, it was inspiration and a whole lotta help, as well. Thanks, man!!! ^_^

No, I don't mind the long message at all 👍 Thank you, it's great to hear this video has helped you with your Switchblade restoration. Funnily enough, I have restored another Switchblade with a broken rear spring mechanism, so am familiar with your experience. Never seen mismatched Switchblade body parts before but it wouldn't surprise me, it's quite common for a toy to evolve over time. The main thing is yours is now restored, seems it took a few turns to get there, but that's restoration for you. Cheers Dave 🤘
