They teasingly named the band after their high school gym coach, Lennard Skinner. He use to harass them about their long hair.

Bob Burns came up with name. It was in the little song “Hello mudder, Hello faader, Here we are in Camp Grenada” Listen to it, it’s in there, Lynyrd Skynyrd that is. Ronnie listened to it and said “By God, that’s it” and the rest is history!

My favorite skynyrd song! As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned to appreciate the small things & I think most people do as they age. I just found out last week I’m losing my hearing at just 50 years old.. talk about hitting me hard. We just kind of take those things for granted! It really makes you think… Great job guys! I really enjoy seeing a younger generation loving music I grew up on

Only two primary members died in the crash: Ronnie and Steve Gaines. A backup singer died, Steve’s sister, Cassie, their manager and both pilots died. They had a gym coach in high school who enforced the “No long hair” school rule. It was Coach Leonard Skinner. So, the band’s name was kind of a finger in the air to him. The band and Skinner actually became friends later.

@@waynedickson6860, it had a profound affect on the other members. Leon had limited range and held his bass differently, and Gary said recently that he hurts every day. The emotional scars were deep too. Allen never got o er it, then lost his wife in 1980. They have such a tragic history.

3 guitar players but the main guitarist played bass on this album because the bassist left the band. But after this album the bassist rejoined them. The bassist is the guy on the end in the hat. He didn’t play on the album but was on the cover.

these guys came up hard - no silver spoons. Seven years together playing out ss a band before they got their record deal. Practicing out in the swamp at Hell House and having to sleep there so the locals wouldn't steal their gear.

No one sounded like Lynyrd Skynyrd. They always had three guitars in the band, often trading off intricate and fast lead guitar. That is their signature sound. They did most of their recording at Muscle Shoals studios in Alabama. There is something in the water there! They were down to eating peanut butter sandwiches before they finally broke big time. Peanut butter doesn't just stick to your ribs, it gives you stick-to-it-iveness! They were one of my favourite bands back then. I used to have an original copy of their "Street Survivors" album with the original cover. Look it up. You guys should do some reactions to JJ Cale and his "Naturally" album. Actually all of JJ Cale's albums. Skynyrd took a lot of their inspiration from him, as did Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Carlos Santana and many, many others. A great blues guitarist, lyricist and vocalist who doesn't sound like anyone else. Sadly he died in 2013 but his music will live on. Clapton has said that there is only one other guitarist he would want to be in this whole wide world--JJ Cale! Says he can play JJ's style of guitar "until the cows come home!" You are in for one of those genuine musical treats! 😎😉🎶💖👌🎸

Your right on target with pronounced,Al Kouper of Blood sweat and tears produced this album, and he originally mispronounced it, the name came from their High school gym coach Leonard Skinner, who kept kicking guitarist Gary Rossington out of class for his long hair, btw, the write up was wrong, Gary's mom hadn't died, she went to see him in the hospital after the plane crash,I think it was both of their grandmother's who died

The bands name comes from their old high school Phys Ed teacher. Slightly changed from Leonard Something or other. Great band who's music is in so many soundtracks. Tuesday's Gone has closed out a lot of rock and roll movies, Almost Famous probably did it best. Give it a listen!

Mark Cuban had an interesting take on money. I'm paraphrasing here, but he said something like if you were unhappy before you got money, you're just going to be a rich unhappy person. But if you were happy before you got money, then you'll be REALLY happy. I'd concur.
