They teasingly named the band after their high school gym coach, Lennard Skinner. He use to harass them about their long hair.
Southern soul at its best gentlemen
One of the best songs ever. If more people would listen to the message in this song, the world would be a better place.
The band crammed full of talent.
Bob Burns came up with name. It was in the little song “Hello mudder, Hello faader, Here we are in Camp Grenada” Listen to it, it’s in there, Lynyrd Skynyrd that is. Ronnie listened to it and said “By God, that’s it” and the rest is history!
"Freebird" Live in Oakland 1977 Freaking LEGENDARY guitar solo If you've never seen it live, ya gotta!
Gulf Shores and Skynyrd! A combo that can’t be beat! ❤
the key to loving your life is truly enjoying what you have and seeing the miracle in each and every thing.
My favorite skynyrd song! As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned to appreciate the small things & I think most people do as they age. I just found out last week I’m losing my hearing at just 50 years old.. talk about hitting me hard. We just kind of take those things for granted! It really makes you think… Great job guys! I really enjoy seeing a younger generation loving music I grew up on
Amazing song by an outstanding band. I send it to my son to remind him to embrace life.
Truth being told by them and you! The One Above never goes away from us...
Life is NOT complicated...we make it that way.
Their best piece of music.
The best.. and that's the bottom line..🎸🎸🎸🤘🔥🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
Only two primary members died in the crash: Ronnie and Steve Gaines. A backup singer died, Steve’s sister, Cassie, their manager and both pilots died. They had a gym coach in high school who enforced the “No long hair” school rule. It was Coach Leonard Skinner. So, the band’s name was kind of a finger in the air to him. The band and Skinner actually became friends later.

Other members of the band were seriously harmed, injuries they never overcame and the trauma of the accident took its toll on others.

@@waynedickson6860, it had a profound affect on the other members. Leon had limited range and held his bass differently, and Gary said recently that he hurts every day. The emotional scars were deep too. Allen never got o er it, then lost his wife in 1980. They have such a tragic history.

Indeed, I believe there is footage of Skinner talking to the camera, "I'm the real Leonard Skinner."

@@DaveRod76, yes, there is. I’ve seen a couple of videos. He and Gene Odom made a video together, too.
3 guitar players but the main guitarist played bass on this album because the bassist left the band. But after this album the bassist rejoined them. The bassist is the guy on the end in the hat. He didn’t play on the album but was on the cover.
these guys came up hard - no silver spoons. Seven years together playing out ss a band before they got their record deal. Practicing out in the swamp at Hell House and having to sleep there so the locals wouldn't steal their gear.
This song is freaking great. Mom talking to her son song. If say same things to my boys. Awesome song.
Listen closely to that Bass line !
Shout out the 502 from the 501 👌
No one sounded like Lynyrd Skynyrd. They always had three guitars in the band, often trading off intricate and fast lead guitar. That is their signature sound. They did most of their recording at Muscle Shoals studios in Alabama. There is something in the water there! They were down to eating peanut butter sandwiches before they finally broke big time. Peanut butter doesn't just stick to your ribs, it gives you stick-to-it-iveness! They were one of my favourite bands back then. I used to have an original copy of their "Street Survivors" album with the original cover. Look it up. You guys should do some reactions to JJ Cale and his "Naturally" album. Actually all of JJ Cale's albums. Skynyrd took a lot of their inspiration from him, as did Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Carlos Santana and many, many others. A great blues guitarist, lyricist and vocalist who doesn't sound like anyone else. Sadly he died in 2013 but his music will live on. Clapton has said that there is only one other guitarist he would want to be in this whole wide world--JJ Cale! Says he can play JJ's style of guitar "until the cows come home!" You are in for one of those genuine musical treats! 😎😉🎶💖👌🎸
Their best song! Almost didn't make the album, Al Cooper didn't want it recorded. Ronnie did it anyway.
There in Louisville, 95.7 WQMF had a free concert on April 1.. featuring Lennard Skinner.. tons of people showed up and enjoyed a great day of music.. then that night they came out on the stage and introduced the final performance of the night Lennard Skinner... and the Coach walks out and thanked everyone for coming to the show... APRIL FOOLS :P
I'm sure someone has mentioned that the band was named after one of their high school teachers named Leonard Skinner.
LOVE the sentiment of this song. 2 thumbs up! Great review, Boys! :)
Your right on target with pronounced,Al Kouper of Blood sweat and tears produced this album, and he originally mispronounced it, the name came from their High school gym coach Leonard Skinner, who kept kicking guitarist Gary Rossington out of class for his long hair, btw, the write up was wrong, Gary's mom hadn't died, she went to see him in the hospital after the plane crash,I think it was both of their grandmother's who died
Al Kooper who was the producer refused the let them record this song but Ronnie Van Zant walked him to his car and told him they would call him when it’s done. If not he was gonna stomp his ass
My dad loved Lynyrd Skynyrd. May he rest in peace. ❤️
Hey guys .. More Skynyrd please .. The greatest American band in history .. Tuesday's gone , That smell , I need you , Cry for the bad man . You won't be disappointed
Love me some southern rock..but that one's gotta be number 1..62 year old former marine from south carolina
Triple Rack Guitar Attack just like April Wine, you did earlier.
Their coach was Leonard Skinner
And don't forget the sublime drum track by Artimus Pyle, always overshadowed by those damn guitars!

Love Artimus, but this is Bob Burns playing drums here.

React to another Lynyrd Skynyrd “That Smell”. It is about the evils of drugs and alcohol.
The bands name comes from their old high school Phys Ed teacher. Slightly changed from Leonard Something or other. Great band who's music is in so many soundtracks. Tuesday's Gone has closed out a lot of rock and roll movies, Almost Famous probably did it best. Give it a listen!
Mark Cuban had an interesting take on money. I'm paraphrasing here, but he said something like if you were unhappy before you got money, you're just going to be a rich unhappy person. But if you were happy before you got money, then you'll be REALLY happy. I'd concur.
Nice one chaps ! ..... It's a bit special this one.... Essential listening I would say for all before they grow up and become part of the Borg ! ✌️🇬🇧
Fellows I request Sugarloaf " Don't call us - will call you"
Check out Lynyrd Skynyrd live at Oakland Collisium Free Bird 🐦 it will blow your mind! This band is MINE!
Lynyrd Skynyrd......named the band after an assistant principle/coach that would give them hell about their long hair. They just changed the spelling.
They Do Not make music like this anymore! Love the band.
Guys I would love to watch this but it will be middle of the night so just to say I know you're going to love this song if you don't know it already. Also I don't want to nag and sorry I don't know your names but I know the guy on the left loves saxophone...you have to listen to "Theme from local hero" by Mark Knopfler (from dire straits). Peace and love, xx
Hey guys, just found your channel...think you would like "Flirtin' With Disaster " by Molly Hatchet, another great Southern Rock beast of a song.
Please do Fire On The Mountain by The Marshall Tucker Band.
Lynyrd Skynyrd what is their high school gym teacher.
I love this song. Thank you for doing it. But please, more Home Free. You pick. You can't go wrong with anything of theirs. One of my favorites of theirs is Everybody Walkin This Land, but like I said, take your pick.
And the main guitarist is the guy that’s on the other end.
You guys should do some Kansas. Best american prog rock group in the 70's imo. ""Icarus - Borne On Wings Of Steel": is an underreacted to gem.
For the SAX lover in all of us, please take a moment to react to Steely Dan's "Black Cow" from their 1977 platinum selling Aja album. The haunting tenor solo by LA sax god, Tom Scott is the stuff of legend. SO OUTRAGEOUS!
Check out Shinedown's version of this song
All UofK fans! Love it! Go Big Blue!
Check out Mr Breeze...very profound bass
Named after gym teacher Leonard Skinner
My Governor passed a law that I dont need a permit to carry or purchase a handgun. Hi im from Iowa. Goes into effect June 19th. Lol thats horrible
Hey guys, you have to listen to a song from Lynyrd Skynyrd entitled Gifted Hands, it's a very good song, I hope you guys read it.
Shine down does a Killer Acoustic Version!! Won’t be Disappointed!👍
now do the Shinedown version
Night ranger "YOU CAN STILL ROCK IN AMERICA".forgotten gem
Next react metallica fade to black live 1991
Sadly, they never duplicated the originality Ronnie gave this band. They continue today as the best Skynyrd "cover" band...........and they are entertaining but never put out any new songs of relevance since Ronnie died.
The Warning came out with their new single under Lava records called "Choke". Can you please react? It's a banger!
