I don't understand kids today...Back in 1977, you probably got into this concert for less than ten bucks, but you wouldn't have DARED take your eyes off the band for a minute for a phone!! When I attend concerts now, and we've all paid a minimum of $50 to see a band, and half the kids are checking their text messages....I just don't get it!

This was from a time when music actually meant something. I like seeing younger people's reactions to music that was made long before they were born or even before their parents were born. I've read so many negative comments on other channels against "Boomers". One thing that is so very true about us Boomers, we had the best music of all time.

@B L, Very well said, and I couldn't agree with you more. I mean beyond the Beatles, we had CCR, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Hendrix, Joplin, Heart, the Doobies--I could be here all night! The music takes each of us back to our memories, good and bad. It was palpable! What a time to be young. I am also so glad to see a young person, who is obviously so intelligent, loving "our Boomer music." The way she explains how she feels about how it affects her is so refreshing. I said this about her before; she is an "old soul." ✌✌

RIP Stevie Gaines and Cassie Gaines . You wanna talk about a Guitar Player ! Stevie was right up there with Allen and Gary ! He just never got the chance to really show this world just how good he was . If you pay attention to any rythm guitar in these songs then you will actually hear Stevie bending the Hell outta that strat he plays . He was so good ! When this Happened ... the plane crash ...I was 12 years old but I'd been listening to those guys ever since I was big enough to know what good music really was . And they'll never be another band with that much talent ever again !

I was born in 1974, I remember a time when there was no internet, no cable t.v. During the summer I'd leave the house and meet up with my friends at 9am and my parents wouldn't see me again till the street lights came on and I rolled through the front door hungry, ragged, tore up, bruised, sometimes bloody and covered in dirt from tromping through the woods, swimming, fishing, wrestling, climbing trees, riding my bike for miles, engaging in epic battles with sticks and snow balls and forts and...well you get the idea 😂 We didn't get our first color t.v. till I was 7? 8 years old maybe? (We were kinda poor back then) Phones were rotary dialed and had cords 😂 Fuck Im old 😭

When this song was originally written, the music to the song was written by a then 17 years old Allen Collins (the tall guitarist in white that plays the ripping lead at the end) and the lyrics to the song written at the ripe old age of 20 by lead singer Ronnie Van Zant. The song intially came out a few years after it was written on their debut album Pronounced Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1973 and would later be part of their brilliant live album recorded in Atlanta in 1976 called One More From The Road. To this day, Freebird remains one of the most iconic songs in rock history along with Zepplin's Stairway To Heaven and a few others. Not bad for a couple of high school dropouts which is what Collins, Van Zant, and most of the band all were.

I watched a movie about the stompers, anyway while they were recording in Alabama supposedly the piano player at the time was a roadie for them, but supposedly the band went to lunch, when they returned to the studio they heard what was the beginning of this song being played on the piano, turned out he was like concert pianist, and eventually they made him a official band member.

The 70's were a great time to be a teenager. Rock and Roll was at it's peak! Living so close to NYC, there were multiple FM Rock Stations; 102.7 WNEW, 95.5 WPLJ, ect... Music was as necessary as Girls and Alcohol. If the radio wasn't on, there was an Album, 8 Track, or Cassette in the stereo. I Attended over 100 Concerts between 1976 and 1983. Some of the acts I saw (not a complete list) The Allman Brothers, Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC, 38 Special, Heart, The Outlaws, Marshall Tucker Band, ZZ Top, Doobie Brothers, Van Halen, Charlie Daniels Band, Grateful Dead, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Molly Hatchet (many of these were multiple times). Some of the places where these concerts took place: In NJ, Capitol Theatre; Garden State Arts Center; Six Flags Great Adventure; Convention Hall, Asbury Park; Mothers, Wayne; Meadowlands Arena; Fairleigh Dickinson University; Montclair State College... In NY, Madison Square Garden & the Nassau Coliseum... Awesome memories!

The guitarist was the great late Allen Collins. I was blessed to see Lynard Skynyrd in Chattanooga, Tennessee back in the 70"s. I was up front near the stage on my boyfriend's shoulders. I could almost touch the most amazing guitarist. He played this solo making it look effortlessly. It was a beautiful sight that now stays forever in my memory.

Saw the original Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1975 with Charlie Daniels and Marshall Tucker. Best concert ever. Isn’t it amazing how different the crowds are then from now. We only had phones on the walls at home and we clapped and went crazy at concerts instead of having our phones in the air. Good times.

At that time, Skynyrd had three guitarists : original guitarists Allen Collins and Gary Rossington, and Steve Gaines, who had recently replaced Ed King. They also had Leon Wilkeson on bass guitar. Allen Collins is the one you noticed jamming on the solo. Sadly, Steve Gaines and his sister Cassie died in the plane crash, along with Ronnie Van Zant.

Sadly this was the last time Lynyrd Skynyrd was filmed live and this was 3 months and 18 days before the plane crash just a few shows into the Street Survivors tour. This video is awesome but also sad as everyone on stage, with the exception of 2 people (the drummer and Gary Rossington one of the lead guitarists) are all now deceased. Some died in the plane crash, some survived with major injuries. Allen Collins had his car crash and died in 1990, the piano player and the bass player died later as they played in the reformed Lynyrd Skynyrd until their deaths.

Few years ago, him and I went to see Bob Segar for the last time in Virginia Beach. I mighta been the youngest person there, but older bands know how to play because they play for more than just money.
