Lynyrd Skynyrd-Cottonmouth Country
Музыка
Recorded during the Nuthin' Fancy sessions. Here's the only known unreleased studio recording by the original Skynyrd. The song is unfinished, and you can hear an annoyed Ronnie Van Zant yell "Cut" at the end of the song. Great song that would have fit right in on Nuthin' Fancy.

I agree
Damn... I swear... who the hell decided NOT to release this song!? I'll bet they have a ton or more of unreleased gold that'll never see the light of day... what a shame
This great, Ive never heard this song and anything new with Ronnie Singing 30 years later is cool - Thanks
Skynyrd is one of the all time greatest rock n roll bands. I feel bad for the kids of today that don't know what real music is about.

It's a damn shame, my kids think that a drum machine & some nasty nursery rhymes is music, What in the Hell happened to playing instruments and being proud of it?

RONNIE VANZANT WAS A GENIUS, THIS SONG SHOULD HAVE MADE IT ON AN ALBUM, COUSIN FIGEL
cryin damn shame they didnt finish this one! glad we got this much of it tho!
This is a really catchy riff, what a great song. Hard to believe it was never finished and released.
I wish I had a time machine and I would go back to the 70's and hang with a bunch of heads the day the new Stones album came out or the day the new Skynyrd album came out, etc. Back when you had to go get it at the store. Would be a great time. Bell bottoms and super hair. And that sweet, sweet 70's music

This is Lynyrd Skynyrd folks💯 there are alot more songs released that got no airplay. This band is NOT just from the South! This band rates up with any band from America period! 💯🇺🇸. What other band's music has been played at funerals, weddings and ect. than Lynyrd Skynyrd? Being from the south (Nashville TN), I can say this, We All lost 2 of the best musicians in 1977.. Elvis Presley on August 12th 1977 and Ronnie Van Zant on October 20th 1977. I was 17. I cried at both days and felt my world had seriously changed forever and it did. 😪 thanks for releasing this song. It means alot🕊🎸💯❤

What about Steve Gaines??
@wagliz163
4 ай бұрын
@@brushstroke3733 People talk about Steve Gaines as though there was no Skynyrd before his arrival. He was spectacular, but only with them about 15 months, only recorded one studio album with them, and didn't play on half of their live album because they didn't have time to work him into all of the songs. When Steve joined, Skynyrd already had gold albums and hit singles. They provided a platform for him to show his stuff on the world stage, that he might not have gotten if not for the band that sweated it out for 7 years at Hell House. Steve never saw the inside of that place.

there is such precious little of Ronnie's work, but thank God for what we Do have! thanks for posting!!
Has that great ole' Honky Tonk sound, that they're known for!! Hands down, one of the best bands of all time, been a fan since I was a little kid, back in the 70's!!
No skynyrd sounds like skynyrd to me, not comparable, free or sabbath CAN'T touch these guy's musically lyrics or stories about life in this music these boys as real as it ever was or ever will be!

Wow how young .Where was this.I remember comic book club..awesome picture of Ronnie and Gary...I'm getting old..
I wish they would have finished this song and put it on an album.
Thats an awesome song!!!
you are heading in the right direction now and i like to see the young ones like you that like the old music that is real and not covered up by some damn machine to make someone sound like they can sing but cannot without it.Keep supporting real music and buy the music.Rock on.
Kick ass song!!!
Love it! Yeah my FL brothers, rockin' out swamp style.
why dosent anybody now have talent like this?
The photo looks like it was taken at The Warehouse in New Orleans. I saw them a few times throughout Southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Love Leons bass lines in this. Such a tough sound. Really way too bad it hasnt been released on one of Skynyrds re-releases as a bonus track. Would be a COOL cover for a band like Blackberry Smoke for their new CD this year.
"I see them city people".... reminds me of swamp music, or "I can see the concrete slowly creepin' Lord take me and mine before that comes 'Cause I can see the concrete slowly creepin' Lord take me and mine before that comes."
freakin awesome!!
Damn good song!!! Everyone now days is just to lazy and depend too much on technology instead of raw talent
Boy its a good thing I was raised back when music was good.Fleetwood Mac,ZZ TOPP,Kiss & of course Skynyrd.Has anyone out there really just sat down to listen to what kids are exposed to today? Pretty depressing.I may be old,I got to see all the great bands & not this fancy new age hooked on phonics crap.lol

Priceless! From the number one rock n roll band ever to rock this earth. Now they are the number one band in Heaven.
The guy who said that this sounds like black sabbath or frank zappa, obviously doesn't No s*** about music. I think you better stick with your Barry Manilow records

Man that Les Paul looks fresh DAMN sounds FRESH TOO!
Good base of a song, just needed to be worked on more.
i have a cottonmouth tattooed on my chest, they should be the mascot for the south since theyre everywhere.
awesome song to bad it was never finished and put on an album
Right place wrong time !
Actually NOT from the Nuthin' Fancy sessions. This treasure was recorded in 1970 at the original Muscle Shoals Sound Studios at 3614 Jackson Highway in Sheffield, Alabama. They were still shopping for a record deal at this point. These sessions also produced the original Free Bird as heard on Collectybles (despite what its liner notes say), Junkie, Hide Your Face, He's Alive, Michelle, Need All My Friends, and Bad Boy Blues. Alas engineer Rick Hall, trying to find a deal for the band, was adamant about Free Bird being a single and about it not being trimmed in length. No record companies would sign them in 1970 under those terms and Skynyrd went down to Doraville to try their luck. The rest is history.

Ed King just posted this on Facebook: "Somebody wrote to me today about a bootleg track called COTTONMOUTH COUNTRY. That tune was recorded in the studio on the same day SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL was finished and it's on the same master tape which can't be located. It started out with my bass riff (I'm playing bass, not Leon), then Gary put his part on top and Ronnie started coming up with lyrics right on the spot. Ronnie said "cut cut" because Allen had made a chord mistake on the second chorus. We never went back to it." So it would appear that it was recorded in Doraville, GA along with SNS in Aug 74. The rest of the Nuthin Fancy sessions were January 75 in Atlanta. That is unless SNS was actually recorded much earlier than the Aug 74 date that it's credited with. facebook.com/ed.king.52687/posts/10154920565589185

I would have to agree with ed king. The drumming on this sounds more like Artimus Pyle than Bob Burns to me.
skynyrd gonna put this song up as a bonus track on their new album.
Is there a better recording of this tune,,or can I find it elsewhere?,,very cool tune

Does anyone know the lyrics to this incredible song? I think I have most of them figured out, but there are a few spots where I am not sure. Any help would be appreciated.
Did anyone notice that Ronnie Van Zant was bare footed here ... he said he never wore shoes when performing so he could feel the heat from the stage! Just a lil FYI for ya! ;o)
You are a young adult and don't let anyone tell you different!

Awesome Song. It is present in the album Leon Wilkeson's Living Room Rehearsals. Is it?
High5150Roller- I honestly hope you're kidding. They were masters of their craft.
@Freebird109 Bob Burns played on Saturday Night Special..That was it...They picked up Artimus on a recommendation from Toy Caldwell...Artimus was living in Spartanburg,,SC...Did a rehearsal with Leon and Allen i believe and LS was in Nashville...Artimus and his wife met the band and RVZ hired him..Gave him some like 10,000 in a paper sack to get him started!
