So, if the maximum payload is 3100 lbs, this is the amount of weight it can carry safely including all passengers fuel and luggage. If the plane can carry 6 passengers approx 200 lbs that equals to 1200 lbs plus about 200lbs for luggage. That means full fuel would be 1700 lbs of jet fuel which equals out to about 250 gallons of fuel because one gallon is a little less than 7lbs. That would put this plane in the 8-12 miles per gallon range. So, if the plane is flying 500 miles per hour and the range is 2300 miles that means it would take about 4.5 hrs to reach your destination. 250 gallons divided by 4.5 hrs is approximately 55 gallons per hour burned. Each minute this plane burns about 1 gallon of fuel. Two engines running that equals 1/2 gallon of fuel per minute on each engine. This totally makes sense now. My numbers might be off a bit, please if someone else can chime in that would be great. I know they like to keep jet mpg secret that’s why they create all these fancy words and phrases to confuse people.

Jeremy, we generally use nm/lb of fuel with jet 'mileage' but it has to be calculated on a per trip basis due to winds, etc. Most of the time we calculate fuel per hour, using pounds for jet fuel (Jet A) and gallons for 100 LL (piston fuel). On jets in this class the fuel is stored in the wings, and tip tanks in some cases. Without looking at my PC-24 performance charts, at high altitude (FL450 - 45,000 ft) is approximately 140 gallons/hr for both engines with a True Airspeed of approximately 400-420 kts. Aircraft performance can be a bit complicated since we have a number of factors to consider, including: altitude, temperature, power settings, weight, and of course wind.

He’s saying the full fuel payload is 1315 pounds. That means with the tanks full of fuel and one 170 lb pilot this plane can carry an additional 1315 pounds safely. The maximum payload, the amount of weight this plane can carry safely including fuel, people and cargo is 3100 lbs. 3100 minus 170 minus 1315 leaves us with 1615 pounds of fuel. Jet A kerosene weighs 6.8 pounds per gallon. 6.8 divided by 1615 is 237 gallons of fuel. This makes more sense, your calculations are saying that at 400 nautical miles approx 480 miles per hour this jet burns 140 gallons per hour. If the range is 2000 nautical miles, approximately 2300 miles, it would take around 5 hours to fly the maximum distance. 5 hours times 140 gallons of fuel is 700 gallons, this is equivalent in volume to 7 large 96 gallon garbage recycling bins. There’s no way that much fuel is stored in the wings, it’s just not possible. Also, when your flying in higher altitudes there’s very little to no winds.

Also , I think the 200 miles extra is because they must have added up to 20gallons more fuel storage.

I think you are confusing maximum payload with maximum useful load. The PC24's useful load is roughly 7300 lbs and it carries about 6000 lbs of fuel. It has therefore a maximum payload with full fuel of about 1300 lbs. Also, I don't think anyone is being secretive about not quoting miles per gallon. It's just that it isn't a particularly useful number for airplanes. You would have to make many assumptions about taxi time, leg length, gross weight, and winds aloft.

Do you like runway excursions? If so, buy a HondaJet. On a more serious note, they're two different planes designed for different market niches. The HondaJet Echelon (a.k.a. 2600) also hasn't been built yet, and I don't recall but I think the 2600 range claim is _maximum_ ferry range (i.e. no pax or cargo)? I suspect that real-world performance in practical scenarios will be quite comparable given both planes are using variants of the same Williams engine; same fan, core, etc.

What kind of performance does this jet provide other than landing on unpaved runways, which is really needed for special missions not for business purposes or just travel? The performance of this aircraft is inferior to the Embraer 300E, while the PC 24 has higher operating costs due to functions that a business jet does not need.

  • @PersonalWings

The Phenom 300E is indeed a very capable jet. The PC-24 has some attributes that surpass the 300E. The cockpit is much more comfortable in the PC-24, all baggage is in a heated and pressurized compartment aft of the cabin. The capability of landing on unimproved runways, while it does provide more utility for a number of customers that require that ability, also translates into a great short field, and contaminate runway capability. I enjoy flying the 300E, as well as other jets so it is very nice to have options!
