His distinctive brand of satin smooth vocal magic moved international audiences and continues to touch people to this day. For almost 25 years, from 1981 to 2005, Luther Vandross dominated the American R&B music charts like no other artist before or since. In that span he released eight #1 R&B albums, seven #1 R&B singles and another five Top 20 R&B singles. Lyrics:
Lately love keeps keeping me wake at night
Tossing and turning, my love
Wanna kiss you, wanna hold you so tight
Oh but I wonder love whether you know or not
When you just hurry away, leaving me laying there in shock
I just wanna be the one that you wanna see
I just wanna have you near me
But you fly away almost everyday
You work a lot but you never stop to love
Come home from the road
(Gotta stop to love)
And let's celebrate (celebrate) the love we got (stop)
Say you're coming home
You say my love has always been on your mind
But how can I ever love you, when you keep working overtime?
Too many empty nights, could make almost any guy
To look for the love he don't get whenever he's alone at home
Awaiting the day that you're coming to stay
I hate to see you go away baby, but you couldn't rest
Had to do your best to reach the top
But you did not stop to love
Come home from the road
(Gotta stop to love)
And let's celebrate (celebrate) the love we got (stop)
Say you're coming home
And one day you'll discover I'm the one who love ya
(Gotta stop to love)
No one loves you better
Can't you stay forever?
(Stop to love)
I can hardly stand the loneliness
Come on home, that's what it's all about
You really turn me out
I love you stop (stop)
Love you stop (stop)
Come home from the road
(Gotta stop to love)
And let's celebrate (celebrate) the love we got (stop)
Say you're coming home
(Gotta stop to love)
I love you stop (stop)
I still love you stop (stop)
Come home from the road
(Gotta stop to love)
And let's celebrate (celebrate) all the love we got (stop)
Say you're coming home

One night in 1986 a 14-year-old boy turned on the television and saw this video as it was starting. He asked his father who was this singer with the velvet voice. Now 30 years later the boy is a grown man who is still in love with this song, his very first look at Luther Vandross. R.I.P. Mr. Vandross. Thank you for introducing me to your beautiful world if great and awesome music. Forever grateful, forever a fan. I imagine your voice bring the one Heaven wakes up to each morning.

Let's remember that it's our white society that pushed black women to straighten their hair, put braids and crap into their hair, screwing it up. Then black men started to expect it! Such a trap for black women!. They need to use natural products and hairstyles that don't screw them up.

Going off your comment, I honestly can’t tell any of these new artists apart because they all sound the same. The great thing about music pre 2000s is that most artists had a unique voice or style that set them apart from others. Good times…..good times…

Cassette tapes, VCR/vhs, Atari /nintendo, the phones that we used and the old school tube TV'S! i can add more, I'm certain people who read this being born in the 70s and earlier, already know all the "awesome stuff" we had in the 80s

I was working as a professional radio announcer when this song was released. For awhile, I used it to go into the noon hour every Friday -- because I just liked it and the beat. Anyway, we had a station that had a studio with a window in it so passers-by could see the talent live. (I don't need to tell you, you could NEVER do that now, but I digress.) One Friday, one of my favorite saleswomen came into the studio right before I started to play this song. After I put it on, she finished what she needed to talk to me about -- and then for some reason, we just started to dance right there in the studio. We drew quite the crowd outside the window. I was having so much fun, that I almost didn't get the ID on in time to switch to the noon network news. (That's why the saleswoman had to wait, I had this song back-timed because it has a cold close.) It is a treasured memory, so thank you Mr. Vandross.

Nothing to do with Luther RIP not being here either. He is missed by many but this lady unfortunately doesn't have neither Luther or her mom in her life physically anymore. If you haven't seen "Twenty Feet From Stardom," I highly recommend this movie.

What always struck me about this video was how beautiful EVERYONE in the video was. At the time, I assumed each of these women were models, but come to find out that they were all his backup singers, that was amazing. Luther really, truly had an ear for raw talent. I remember Lisa Fischer had a minor hit with "I can't stand the pain", and thinking that there was no better person to help her launch her career than Luther. I had always wished she blew up larger than she did, but she seems to be happy doing what she does, because when you are a musician, it's the music that makes you happy, not fame or fortune, although, those don't hurt. Maybe, in a way, it's better, because the downside of the fame can be really ugly in that business.

I just think they go waaaaaay overboard with everything they do these days. Hell they even got relaxers back then which wasnt an issue either.... But Im sure they wanted to WORK so they didnt to naturals like THESE days where it is unkept, uncombed and looking worse than the slaves did. @@truthhurtz8517 WTF...90s MUSIC was mediocre watered down generic NO TALENT....the mainstream music was mainly RAP hip hop grunge....that i remember AGAIN sorry BUT 90s was NOT a popular decade for music for us older generations...90s thur 2022 about pretty much the same category in music.....90s is garbage 40s thur 80s real music era...plus 90s was the beginning and transition decade for today's modern music....so get over it.

I miss these times when music spoke to your soul... Having your first girlfriend and this song comes on while watching the sunset on a Saturday night at the beach... It's the best feeling ever ... you have to experience it to over stand what I'm talking about... I feel so sorry for the children that was born in the late 90'S and early 2000's ..I wish I had a Time Machine so y'all can see and feel the 80s & 90's.. You gotta research all the great music & create a playlist... R.I.P Luther Vandross (Gone too soon) ❤
