No more flying days for me, as I sit here on an incredibly beautiful bright clear sunny day, watching all the GA planes flying overhead ! But thanks to folks like Juan, I am still able to enjoy our passion driven hobby ! When you are still full of life, you find other ways to get our flyin' fix ! 😎

Only in 'Murica will you see a pristine, polished-alclad sample of nostalgic aircraft like the Luscombe (seen in the intro background). The TLC involved in attaining this level of gloss is exceptional. On the flip side, while these inter/post-war private aircraft are objects of affection for anyone that cut their aviation teeth on them, to the generations that followed, they are difficult, even death traps! The problem: Under-powered and difficult-to-handle (pesky and hard-to-handle taildraggers!). For us old-timers, this is the charm - knowing how to handle a taildragger in not-so-plain conditions, not to mention knowing to live with an under-powered aircraft without getting into trouble. The charm of an old aircraft: Things are slow and mellow, there is no big rush to go from A to B! Enjoying the the trip is more important than just "getting there". PS. 1 hour of video is too long in the evening! I expect to take my time to watch this at a leisurely pace sometime later.

Could some one tell me why radial engine cylinders are allways odd numbers? I asked this at the Roĺls Royce museum in Filton in Bristol but no one knew. Presumbly its similar to the wear on a 4 cylinder car starter ring where it wears out in 3 places that's when you have an old car and have to bump the car to get the starter gear to engage the ring? Or it jams there. I'm in electronics and mechanical things are intresting. It's a bit late but the pubs are open and touch wood it seems that we are coming out of lock down, it's the beginning of August 2021. Thanks for the great enthusasam, commentary and video.

Split flaps actually produce more lift than conventional hinged flaps up to 50 degrees after which they become essentially underside spoilers and dump some lift but mostly create massive drag, on some types like the spitfire the split flaps were mostly designed to induce drag for landing but on types like the DC3 the split flaps ceranly produce lift by increasing camber dramatically - however quite inefficiently thus modern types evolved to utilise extending and fowler and slotted flaps
