Lupita: the indigenous activist leading a new generation of Mexican women
In a country where indigenous people are increasingly displaced and journalists are killed at an alarming rate, a courageous new voice has emerged: Lupita, a Tzotzil-Maya woman at the forefront of a Mexican indigenous movement.

Twenty years after Lupita lost her family in the Acteal massacre in southern Mexico, she has become a spokesperson for her people and for a new generation of Mayan activists. She balances the demands of motherhood with her high-stakes efforts to re-educate and restore justice to the world

I respect this woman deeply. One cannot deny the absolute resilience this woman exudes after experiencing tragedy such as that. Regardless of whether you support her cause or not, she is strong in a way that many people are never able to muster.
Thank you for sharing their story. For the people who gave this video a thumbs down, I hope you find peace and compassion one day.

Yeah! It's troubling but I think meaningless - you'll see thumbs down for the loveliest musical performances. There is a resident population of unhinged, deranged on this planet. Still, I need to add a slight caveat - AMLOs imbecility on COVID has been stratospheric - fortunately mayors, state governors...have somehow mitigated somewhat the scale of the catastrophe. So, I suspect the thumbs down are chiefly Mexican - my friends pro-AMLO (I still remain but he has been an utter Bolsinaro, Trump-scale imbecile on COVID) but they totally despise anything, any criticism I direct at AMLO.
So much courage for this beautiful Mayan woman, may the Lord keep her safe and hope the Mexican Government will pay sooner or later the massacre they caused and continue to cause.

She’s so beautiful sheeesh. Y’all don’t understand the power, capability, and rage it takes to not be scared of death-Believing in yourself, believing in your community and a cause this much. To live for something and be willing to die for something- to see it through till the end. Shes a true activists to the core. And she needs to be protected. Her life shouldn’t be the one questioned. She’s what is necessary in this world.

I have so much to work towards to get to that point. There’s too much fear pushed on us, we don’t know how to stand for something, and this is especially true for people living in the us.
Qué hermosa indígena en todos los sentidos, esa gente hermosa de mi pueblo que viva México

Las Zapatistas have been one of a number of indigenous communities on this continent doing vital work at the intersection of anti-militarism, indigenous sovereignty, anti-capitalism, earth stewardship, anti-violence and feminism (like the anti-DAPL organisers & the Water Protectors movement). 🤔 Hey Guardian, how about showing (at least like a 30 second) history of las luchas (fights/struggles) of groups like Zapatistas instead of just depicting one singular (albeit powerful) organizer? This is how media deifies and disempowers popular movements.

Importantly, the documentary's director asked permission from the autonomous council of Acteal who allowed it on the condition that the people in the community were involved in as much of the documentary's production as possible.
