My take on Gaster's story.

I was inspired to make this video on a sudden whim after hearing this song and imagining this story play out. You could say I was in a state of determined lunacy when making it *ba-bam-tss*. (Since I spent 4 days working non-stop to complete it.... Workaholism is a double edged sword for coping I guess... but I hope the urgency makes the emotion all the more translatable.)
The sketch style was based on the idea that Papyrus drew a lot as a baby bones, and the theory that the "Don't Forget" photo found in the skeleton brother's house was of Sans Papyrus and Gaster, or that it was a drawing one of the brothers did to remember Gaster when proof of his existence was removed. You can find various doodles left by Papyrus on Gaster's chalkboards and work piles throughout the video.
Some of the side characters, like the guards that notified Gaster and captured the first human (the one that wore a dusty tutu) to be experimented on, were characters that ended up scraped from the official game, to stay on the theme of the forgotten and non-existent. undertale.fandom.com/wiki/Cut...
Since Sans and Papyrus use blue magic in their battles, I thought it was apt that the soul involved in this video was the blue soul.
I decided for this story that the creation Gaster fell into was the soul extractor, rather than the core. I always thought it was ominous how the room that had the skull like machine was hanging over a void, and seemed, unfinished. Perhaps at one point there were railings there. Perhaps it wasn't unfinished, but had fallen apart, and what Frisk comes across in the True Lab, are the ruins of an experiment gone wrong.
This would be my 3rd animation completed for this channel. I've never done animatic/storyboard stuff like this before, so it was a fun challenge. This was made completely in ClipStudioPaint.

I love how the actual story of Undertale (the one the player experiences) is in full colour while Gaster’s story was in black and white.
The things that gave me chills was sans pulling papy away from the human... This animation really feels like.... 2016ish for how much classical vibes of this fandom I'm getting and I ain't gonna lie to ya I dropped a tear watching it

man i really do love this animation as if it was an old treasure i kept everything about this fits gaster so well as this forgotten tragedy of a man overfilled with ambition and i personally love and tout the idea that gaster was always there watching you but you just can't see him gaster's story will always probably not be exactly like what ANYONE writes it as but i think this is definitely my favorite iteration of it and the one that i'd personally think of also his followers being fellow scientists is another idea that i like and that thing about sans' eye is also pretty interesting and gaster actually using human test subjects is a good detail on him to make him more morally muddled as a guy since every cahracter is kinda morally muddled to a certain degree and i've never heard this song before its real nice it really does fit gaster you basically brought that whole imagination music video thing people like to joke about to life also gaster falling perspective was just brilliant i loved the detail of him getting spread across time and space i love this so much

“i deserve forgetting” oh just rip my heart out of my chest why don’t you this is one of my favorite gaster animations ever like actually? i’m always drawn to depictions of him where he’s morally gray and prone to frustration but still cares for others and his downfall results from him falling literally and metaphorically into his scientific research… also the segment at 1:58 is so good especially that rotation must’ve taken so long and your effort definitely shows. amazing work!!!

*irl sobbing* I knew you were good at drawing, video, animation and so on but a whole animatic somehow feels like another thing and you nailed that one too. Just WOW! How cool would it be to have it re-created in cosplay!? That would be your biggest project yet but I'm gonna spend the whole day to imagine how that'll look!

The way it ends perfectly lines up with how it begins making it feel like a reset happened don’t know if that’s what they intended.
I wish we could save everyone when we play the game. Damn I’m literally crying cause this animatic is astonishingly good. I’ve said it before but I’ve come back to say it again cause I’m so serious it’s absolutely perfect.

I love all the callbacks to unused parts of Undertale. Even the way Asgore's hair is drawn reminds me of how the artbook mentions him originally having dark hair.
Saying this will be great before the video starts and then checking afterwards again.

UGHHHHHHHHHH you deserve to know these complex feelings I have. Plus the ending being the same as the start hit me like a ton of bricks emotionally for some reason.

I really love this far too much to put into words, but I'm going to try. I just love this. I love how you depicted Gaster's grandiose, ambitious goals. And how it caused a disconnect between him and those around him, his family, almost blind to their care. I love how you showed him breaking apart, slowly losing himself even before he was ever really lost. I love how you put his triumphant, immoral moments and actions [the extraction of the soul, namely] to the lyrics "Is the carcass even me. Is this catharsis, therapeutic plunge to darkness" I like to think that the immoral things some characters have are partially driven by the need to compensate, because of some instability or need to assure inside them, but they drag themselves even deeper down through those same actions. And I think that this animatic just shows that so beautifully. And god, I haven't even mentioned the emotions this gives me. They're POTENT. Maybe it's a combination of your wonderful artstyle and the music or something, but god, this makes me feel so many things. The shots you've chosen feel so full of meaning and purpose, and they fit both the lyrics and Gaster so wonderfully. And holy shit, the animation. The animation is just beautiful. Beautiful beautiful beautiful. ESPECIALLY during the part where the machine was breaking around him, holy SHIT, that was such good animation. It's so fluid and expressive. This entire thing is just amazing. Maybe it's weird of me to just keep rambling like this, but gosh, you deserve as much praise as possible for this. I can't believe this only has 29k views, you deserve millions. 💙

This is lowkey important- Hey so I have this strong urge to add sound effects (like footsteps or the machine and floor swallowing up Gaster) to this just for the hell of it but I won’t do it without permission. And even then I wouldn’t know what to do with it once it got finished cause I shouldn’t post it on my account since I woulda basically have done nothing and like it ain’t mine or my art. I mean I don’t really know how I could send it over to you (Mylcreates) either if you wanted it cause it would be too long- Uh not sure where I’m going with this actually but anyways I really love this animatic and the whole idea.
