I've been eyeing the Lumos Ultra E-Bike helmet for a month now and I just might get it. The visor and lights are the most attractive features for me.

yeah i feel like she missed one of the best parts of this helmet - the integration with the Lumos firefly lights. the full ecosystem is what sold me on this helmet over any other light-up helmets

I have a Lumos Kickstart--have had it for over 6 months and its made all of the nighttime riding way more fun and safe. I ride at most 15 mph, so the lower amount of protection is fine. I had never heard of the Nutcase integrated light helmet! I'll have to check it out.

I love my Lumos Ultra, grabbed it during the black Friday sales, hoping it would be a good helmet. Couldn't find one anywhere to try on and check out, but it turned out to be the only helmet I grab now. Looks great, fits like a comfortable glove and just feels like it's built well!

With integraed front turn indicator lights, the lumos ultra would be perfeckt two me even without visor (i do not need necesariely)

I have the Lumos Ultra and my spouse has the Lumos e-bike helmet. I have an old cervical spine injury and I find my helmet a bit heavy. Ultimately I wear it anyway because of the lights. We have the firefly lights and I do enjoy that he and I look like a cohesive flashing unit when we're out together, *especially* when we have the kids on their own bikes between us. If we did not have to interact with vehicles maybe I'd be less uptight about the helmets and lights and reflectors and even the lumos turn signals, but this is what we've got to work with so I'll be extra if it means even a tiny more chance of a car seeing us and understanding our movements.

Considered this, and actually BOUGHT another "semi-smart" helmet; Giro Ethos really nice lighting white/red switches to Amber turn signals. Handlebar switch, great fit SUPER Comfortable 👌-in fact, the best fitting, most comfortable bike helmet I've worn to date! Where is the problem? $270 retail is the problem! They have occasional sales on Amazon- got a small for $70 ($200 OFF!!) except it was... too small! Got a medium for $70 (paid $200) for that price there are no accessory lights, no brake light deceleration detection) so it's pricey, and missing bells and whistles. That said it is the highest quality bike helmet I've ever seen, and what it DOES have works perfectly, switching to Amber turn signals, fits like a glove and feels like a million bucks. I really like it! Now to test my Unit 1 Aura. A few bugs but it has a LOT OF POTENTIAL!

Having both helmets ,too.: Overall both are worth the money. The lover quality of the Lumos is accabtable according to its lower price compared to the Giro. In the end the giro sems to be a little bit "overpriced". With respect to the first reviews of the aura it seams that it misseed a little bit its goal of beeing a "Top notch game changer".

Yes, these are great.

I just have a regular bike helmet from nutcase. I don't ride at night much, I mostly ride on car-free multi use paths, and my GSD has nice bright lights built in. I'm also a bit of speed weenie, if I get it up over 15mph on a downhill I'm likely to brake & slow down. Maybe my next helmet will be "smart" or have built in lights, but I'm happy enough with what I've go for right now.

Hi, great review did you pledge for the Virgo Helmet ? I have that coming via Indiegogo as I missed the KS campaign. I prefer it over the Unit One ‘Aura’ due to a couple of subtle key differences A) being the front chin guard for crash protection and B) more robust removable visors which look to have a more secure latch mechanism to both Unit 1 Aura and Lumos Ultra E-bike

Another great video thanks! What's the difference between the Lumos Ultra and Ultra E-bike? Is it just the safety rating? Also, curioius why you haven't reviewed the Kracess S1 or the M2?

Nice review. I have an Ultra from the initial kickstarter offering and love it. I also have the firefly system that mounts to my seat post and it integrates nicely with my current helmet. For the E-bike helmet, I noticed that you had no trouble using the visor with glasses. Can you/anyone comment about the visor and wearing glasses? Does the visor work well with glasses or does it hit the frames?

I've tried it with all of my various types of glasses and haven't had any issues!

I feel like nutcase and abus make some really good rivals without needing an app and cost less.

Does the visor provide any UV protection? I can’t find the specs for the lens anywhere.

No they do not provide any UV protection, there is no options for different visors too replace basic one

I don't have one, but pedaling home tonight with a clip on light on my helmet and on my moto H style safety-vest, I thought "if I were to get thrown from the bike somehow, especially at night, these lights on my person rather than on the bike could keep me from getting run over or even from not being found".

I agree a helmet-height light offers the greatest visibility to the motor vehicles around us, especially SUVs & trucks. Why I have a rear light on my own helmet. But my first concern, the highest priority with any bike helmet, is its crash-worthiness. Is it possible to include ratings for the Lumos, from a respected helmet testing agency? Thanks!

The visor is replacable just ask Lumos if needed ;-) Unfortunately it is not officaly offered on their homepage. But i agree, replacement is a little bit tricky, because the thin plates that cover the screews are glued and a litte bit fragile . It needs some "feeling" to remove them without damaging them. I have replaced them with some piece of other plastic sheet o cut into shape. Just for a little bit water protection of electric plugs of visor.

The downfall is that the Ultra Fly Pro, and all Lumos helmets but the eBike one, are only tested to EN1078 and not the NTA 8776

@@BikeShopGirl Lumos helmets are certified to meet the safety standards of the CPSC (USA), ASTM F1447 (Canada), EN1078 (Europe), and NTA 8776 (E-Bike, Netherlands). They also have features like MIPS (Multi-Impact Protection System) to protect against rotational impact forces in a crash.

@@macmovieman1not all of their helmets meet NTA 8776. I’ve worked extensively with them and they hope to bring it to other helmets but the only one currently is the ultra ebike

The watch app is great

Although it is a good product, it is not sold in Japan. It's a shame!

Unfortunately, LUMOS is too oval in shape and does not fit my head. My wife is very pleased with her helmet.
