Tom, I've watched Eurovision since i was 10 years old in 1970. I've seen it change and evolve, but for me the biggest thrill as a long-term fan is probably the past 4-5 years or so where performance art or out of the box entries are slowly starting to increase and gain popularity over generic pop songs. THIS is what ESC needs to be about, this is the future of the contest that ensures its' survival and existence in contemporary culture. Just look at Spain and Finland this year. I want every country to consider this - damn, Poland should have sent Jann too. A show with 15/20+ art performance entries would just be the most amazing TV on the planet and I sense many countries are starting to realise that too. Bring it on. Luke Black for the win, with all my heart ❤

omg i could not agree more, these out of the box entries give me so much life. if jann had mad it through, then him kaarija and luke probably would have been my top 3 this year, and Blanca's performance would have been my 4. So exciting for the future!

What saddens me is that the voting fandom’s still hooked on the past and demand their “yasss queens that slay”, so even if acts like Luke’s this year get to the big ESC stage, they hardly ever get the chance to shine through because of the paint-by-numbers generic pop bops and/or cliché ballad wailers without any true artistic depths such as this year’s Loreen’s boring Euphoria wannabe song. Really sad indeed. I just hope things change…

Jann would have been my #1 this year but without Gladiator it's between Spava and Cha Cha Cha. P.S. Voted for Maneskin and I was right. Also loving Mahmood and Shum. Eurovision, keep it coming! Signs of an impactful performance when comments turn into armchair quarterbacking. Considering this is a techno song that is very hard to make look good live, this was a successful first attempt. It is niche, so I am not sure how well it would do at Liverpool, but nice to have something this different and of quality. Props to ESC Tom for making me a fan of Luke.

I hope that Luke and RTS will read all these constructive comments and adopt them to make it even better in the final. Unfortunately, money often affects the level, we are not Swedish and he is not a popular person with a lot of money that he can invest. But until Liverpool's performance, everything can be adjusted to perfection.

Thanks for the reaction. Love Luka, however, there's work to do with the performance. One of my main concerns is camera angles and light. As you rightly said at the beginning, 'He's looking somewhere.' Where's that somewhere? It should be the camera! They should be building Luka's connection with the viewers by showing his face and maintaining eye contact for the first 15-20 secs. His first direct eye contact with the camera happens in the 43rd second (in the dark). I think it should be like Heros by Zelmerlow where the dark sections of the performance and mixed with close-ups where the singer is clearly visible and communicates with the TV-audience. The sound mix could be improved as well; I don't think we could hear Luka well enough. I hope the producers will fix the issues by the final.

Really like it as it is. Wasn't too much of a fan prior to the performance but he definitely WOWED me. LOVE LOVE LOVE the video game and sci-fi aesthetics which we really haven't had much of in prior years which really go well with the song. Filip did a good job with his 'Novi Plan Drugi San' too. Sad 'Presidente' isn't through!

There is ONE song with video game aesthetics from Eurovision that everybody seemed to love: Think about Things, but that was more 8-bit and harmless, whereas this is HARDCORE, though there's still enough of a dance pop drop for people and not all the visuals were video game-esque. I think it will convert people with time and Luke performs brilliantly, making it more convincing. There's definitely a story going on on the stage. Not your standard national final song. People will appreciate that there's more to it! I think there's also an overlap with Eurovision regarding gaming because i'm certain a large proportion of gamers also know Eurovision, have heard about it or listened to one song. Maybe it's niche, but I think everyone can be included in the niche with good time. After all, the video game market HAS grown significantly in the last few years. Even a lot of people just play a game once every so often casually.

Luke's performance is in Top 10 trending in Serbia! Konstrakta's team including herself were behind this song. I wish nothing more than for this song to make it to finals of ESC. The sad reality is that Serbs don't think in terms of what wins but what they like. I know for a fact what we're gonna send this year and I know for a fact those very acts won't make it far and the hate will go towards ESC and "tHe SoNgS tHaT sHoUlDn'T'vE mAdE iT tO tHe FiNaLs", when reality it will be our fault only that we sent who we sent to "compete" at ESC. No matter how political, you don't choose a song that will "represent" your country, you choose a song that is musically daring and ABLE to win the competition and before all COMPETE. And this, my darling Serbs, is the ONLY song that can do that. Sadly, the Serbian minds don't think alike. This is my number 1, and I'm hoping for a ESC performance with this! Go Luke! 🔥❤️

@@ESCTom One can never know for sure... But l guess that the audience which would prefer Zejna or Prince isn't the same one which would pick up their phones and vote. Maybe... Last year this was the case. Sara Jo and Zorja were more popular , but after the semifinals' performances the number of people who wanted to be represented by something with deeper meaning was enormous, the juries also recognized the originality, and Konstrakta won. I hope the same thing will happen tomorrow.

Haha your little face! Pure elation! I have to admit, the Stage for the Serbian selection is amazing. They got their sound right although at times their camera angels took me out of the fantasy a few times, but still, superb. As for Luke Black's performance, I do like the song, but I find myself a little bored in the parts that aren't the chorus because thr energy is a little flat. The song reminds me so much of Maruv's 'Siren Song', but much heavier and more experimental. His performance of the song was good. The LED's were lush....I too loved the fighting game reference and I loved how dark and futuristic it all was. Now they've just got to get his outfit right because he looked like he'd just walked out of Little House On The Prairie in comparison to his dancers. He needs to be in something a little more dark and futuristic. Overall great. This would be an amazing addition to this years Eurovision although I'm still not bothered if this or Presidente wins. I do prefer that song but his staging wasn't as good as Lukes.

Princ could never in millions years carry this type of art. He’s more for the oriental-type songs suitable for the radio stations in, say, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Iran, etc. What I’m trying to say is “great vocal potential, but no artistic vision”.

My 2 cents: Regarding looking somewhere at the beggining - I think the intention was to look left and right in confusion, like when you wake up. If I'm right it might be better to start with eyes closed and front camera shot that captures those gazes as it moves away. Those fast cuts were great and I think there should be more of it. When he unpluggs the dancers, camera should switch to them for audence to see their shivering - these moves look effective but aren't shown that good. It needs more light at times. I like the sinister laugh (it's new) but I'd make it more "masculine" to fit the growling in the backing track. I also like his outfit as opposed to the dancers - I'm not a gamer/anime fan but I guess (and somebody comfirmed) it's an hommage to it which many viewers who are into it will recognize immediately. Overall it's pretty good and the sound here is much better than it was on TV. There's definitely a concept and good core idea to work with.

yea i totally agree, i didnt see the shivering until my second watch while editing. theres too many moments being lost by cameras in the wrong place. it somtimes feels like being at a concert with someone tall in front of you and youre trying to see whats happening

i'd also like them to work it also so that when the background music is quieter and the vocal parts are REALLY clear, that he's not moving at all so that the vocals sound perfect. i just dont want him to give the jury any reason to BS mark him down in their scores for vocals, cos they arent even that important in the song anyway

Honesty, it’s a bit messy. I mostly blame RTS who have had some very shoddy production this year. The budget for PZE 2023 is only about 55-60% of what it was last year and it really shows (on the flip side, their budget for actual Eurovision is a lot higher than last year). The wide shots are so unnecessary here and I wish there were more close shots and quicker cuts. I also think there should have been less choreography and maybe he could have been more static and standing at some kind of flickering colorful synthisizer or video game console and then maybe do a little bit of choreo. There were a lot of good ideas but RTS hired some considerably less talented people compared to last years. His vocals are also a bit shaky imo. The good bits are definitely the graphics, the anime high school protagonist outfit and the dancer’s costumes. Still, I think this is our only hope for Liverpool because I think it will look a lot more polished and expensive with the British production team and camera crew.

honestly i thought the production was pretty amazing for the show. i but i didnt see last year. its not Melfest level, but id consider that the ultimate for staging production in camera angles/cuts etc yea there were some quick cuts at the start but not later on. wish you could see him disconnecting their cables and their reaction a little clearer, i totally missed it the first time and only saw it editing

Low key, I was fully expecting to be won over by this in the live performance and "get it" but I nearly think the opposite happened. I feel bad about making comparisons to Jann but seeing as they were both going for something dark and experimental, I think it makes sense. With Jann's entry, I thought the music video was striking, it was interesting and different. One common issue I had with both of these songs in the studio version which is a concern I had with some other nf songs is when there's so much going on sonically and wondering if it actually works, do the different elements clash, do they "make sense" being paired with each other. For Jann's performance, the answer to that was yes, I could see a clear vision, the vocal I thought was decent, I liked the camera angles and I could see the potential it could've had, had it been selected. Luke's on the other hand, I don't get the vision at all. The vocal admittedly live was not my taste, felt flat or something. The staging felt completely random to me, not in an intriguing way but more of a I dont know what im doing way so ill throw the kitchen sink at it. Didnt like or get the styling. Perhaps I need to read up on the lyrics to get the context but I went from being open to seeing this live and having a bit of a Jann like revelation to thinking idk if Serbia should even send this. There's still intriguing elements to this but I didn't enjoy the performance and their were other performances I enjoyed more (which I was also indifferent to in their studio versions).

SOUND - 10 BEAT - 10 STAGING - 8 SINGING - 6 (cool, apart from moments of demasculated singing) LYRICS - 2 (lousy message, the guy just wants to "sleep") OVERALL - 7🤘
