    Bolt's are not really "easy to replace if damaged", since if you mess the bolt up - likely the female thread in the hub is ruined to, and suddenly you"ll have to replace that whole thing too

    The only place that bolts shine over studs is the fact that you can just swap them out super quick and easy. However, I've only ever had to replace studs once, on a 20 year old car, and they were the original studs (Messed up through stupidity, not wear), so they don't wear out overly quickly. (The lug nuts are the wear item with studs, and they're just as quick and easy to swap as bolts

    Beside the maintenance aspect there is another thing about bolts vs studs:stud and nut is stronger than bolt. The bolt is twisted by the wrench as you tighten it. Studs are torqued only by the thread friction and not the wrench. So serious applications use studs and nuts and not bolts like truck engine head studs and nuts rather than bolts.

    Actually the bolt design is harder to repair if broken because most likely the bolt was cross threaded or the threads in the bearing were bad so the whole unit has to be replaced. Rather if a stud is damaged that singular stud can be replaced not the whole unit. I mean there is a reason people stud heads and other high performance parts.

Bolts will do fine, honestly I rather have bolts for cars, most car tires are light enough and not a big deal to lift up and place, all the easier if you have a rod kit for it. Bolts on any truck style application sucks, if you live in the rust belt; Bolts are way better to deal with- studs rust and break and are a tideous task at that point to deal at that point.

    The best thing about bolts is, you can install anti theft bolts, which in germany or cities with gypsies and other sketchy shits is a must. Cant even leave your wheels center covers on as they get stolen all the fucking time

    A lug is what you screw onto the stud to hold the wheel assembly on the car. A lug is typically tightened to between 60 and 100 ft-lb of torque. Lugs should always be tightened in a star pattern and final torque spec should always be performed with a properly calibrated torque wrench. Do not use an impact to tighten lugs as it will definitely overtighten them and do not use torque sticks as they are not really accurate.

    So much easier to align the center bore with the hub, than 4,5,6 studs with their holes, especially when putting on heavy wheels. Bolts are superior. Studs need to go extinct.

    Oh and I almost forgot the factory studs that install from the back side, and fall out of the hub easily, then just rotate, best feeling

    Its the other way around, its much easier to put on a wheel with studs and if one snaps you just replace it. But if you mess up the threads with bolts you need to replace the whole hub. So its really the bolts that need to go extinct not the other way around

    Light duty truck wheels, for example renault master mk2 came with studs first and then the facelift ones came with bolts, searching for the studs through a steelie with no large holes 5x180bolt pattern (iirc) while holding it in the air is a "fun" job, the new one you just push it on the hub, rotate it to place and bolt it down.

    Bolts are not helpful 99% of these time, it takes 5 seconds to replace a bolt and 1 minute to replace a stud, if the fact they're easily replaced is their best selling point then there's really no reason to use them

  • @Deathbomb9
    @Deathbomb9 Жыл бұрын

    Lmao, studs are super easy to transfer over. You just have to not be stupid about it. Also, studs make aligning during a tire change super easy with no need to spin the tire to get it aligned. You don't really know what you're talking about here and that's obvious to anyone who knows a little bit about cars. Bolts are also weaker and more costly to make. If you break a stud, you bang it out and slip the new one in. Proper torque will actually set it I've done a bunch of studs over the years and have never wished they were bolts.
