Bolt's are not really "easy to replace if damaged", since if you mess the bolt up - likely the female thread in the hub is ruined to, and suddenly you"ll have to replace that whole thing too

The only place that bolts shine over studs is the fact that you can just swap them out super quick and easy. However, I've only ever had to replace studs once, on a 20 year old car, and they were the original studs (Messed up through stupidity, not wear), so they don't wear out overly quickly. (The lug nuts are the wear item with studs, and they're just as quick and easy to swap as bolts
Depends on how many you gotta deal with. When I was a lube tech I hated when they came in
In high performance application, when we need strength, we use Studs. For heads, wheels, etc
I’ve had to change 3 studs in 10 years. I feel like the lug bolts loosen easier than studs. As for accurate torque. You can’t beat a stud. Just my pref

bolts are premium
Beside the maintenance aspect there is another thing about bolts vs studs:stud and nut is stronger than bolt. The bolt is twisted by the wrench as you tighten it. Studs are torqued only by the thread friction and not the wrench. So serious applications use studs and nuts and not bolts like truck engine head studs and nuts rather than bolts.
Can closed lug nuts be a problem? Like if they max out before holding the rim against the hub well enough?

When you're used to bolts changing wheels get as fast if not faster than with studs imo
You only ever have to replace bearings and hubs once in a cars life so I'll save my back and stick with studs
Actually the bolt design is harder to repair if broken because most likely the bolt was cross threaded or the threads in the bearing were bad so the whole unit has to be replaced. Rather if a stud is damaged that singular stud can be replaced not the whole unit. I mean there is a reason people stud heads and other high performance parts.
The wheel bolts will outlive anything on a BM. I don't why Americans make such a big fuss out of it. It's pretty easy to deal with as well. I mean maybe if u're not used to them just put 2 screw drivers in the lining holes(found in-between the holes on the hub and oem wheels) and you're off
I also am rocking aodhans 🤝 may we be cheap together, brother
I’m in a automotive class and I prefer studs as long as your teammate isn’t an idiot that threading the lug nuts on with an impact is fine and doesn’t f anything up. Which mine does he striped out a lug nut yesterday and after I told him he claimed it was like that when he took it off. It was quite literally on the stud at like a thirty degree angle it’s pretty annoying.

Start it by hand then use an impact when i do it at home i use my stubby milwaukee on the low setting and it only does like 45 then so it starts it without over torquing
I'm European and i think lug studs look awesome. While bolts don't make wheel replacement take 2-3 hours like some people claim (mostly the people who shouldn't even look at the bolts) studs definitely are more convenient.j
Lug bolts have a tendency to seize and be a pain to remove. I blame the heat of the brakes and all of the crap they use on the roads here in the winter. Fronts are almost worse than the rears
try putting on a 40" mud tire on heavy ass steel rims with no centering rings on a wv with lug bolts (been there done that) where the rotor spins freely. and the car is on a lift😆 tire and rim combo sits at a comfy 75kgs! do that 4 times. than go to a car with lug studs, and see which one breaks you back first🤣
I personally like studs over bolts
there's a difference between lug studs and lug bolts? they're both lugs, and they're bolts that are the studs right? (sorry i know nothing about cars)
@AbcAbc-sp1od
Жыл бұрын
Yes, a lug stud is mounted into the hub, and you screw the lug nut onto it. A lug bolt, on the other hand, screws into a hole in the hub.
malaysia make stud before but install rim little bit dificult.
studs are the way to go. bolts carry the weight of the corners on the rotating fastener when you get a flat, making it much harder to break free on th way off, and harder to align on the way in.
Studs
Personally I absolutely HATE the bolts, I rather the studs n lug nuts
studs are the best
Seems like this is from the point of view of someone that has never replaced a stud. It can be a bit of a hassle in some cases, but in most cases a 3 lb. sledge will knock out a damaged stud just fine.
For me no difference. You just have to know the ways. Easy in both cases

Cheap cars always uses studs, I'm grateful for it!
It's honestly a 50/50 dependent on person. Bolts will do fine, honestly I rather have bolts for cars, most car tires are light enough and not a big deal to lift up and place, all the easier if you have a rod kit for it. Bolts on any truck style application sucks, if you live in the rust belt; Bolts are way better to deal with- studs rust and break and are a tideous task at that point to deal at that point.
Lets be honest the only reason bolts are used is because it's cheaper to make and i don't think it's that easy to replace a bolt most likely the tread is fucked anyways

Many european and japanese cars today use bolts.
With how often you have to actually replace a wheel stud your better off using them compared to bolts. You will take your tire off to work on parts 10 times before replacing a stud besides if you take care of your studs meaning not cross threading and not over torquing they will likely last the life of the vehicle anyways. and 98 percent of the population is never going to put spacers on their vehicles

A lug is what you screw onto the stud to hold the wheel assembly on the car. A lug is typically tightened to between 60 and 100 ft-lb of torque. Lugs should always be tightened in a star pattern and final torque spec should always be performed with a properly calibrated torque wrench. Do not use an impact to tighten lugs as it will definitely overtighten them and do not use torque sticks as they are not really accurate.

Lug studs Vs lug bolts lol. I say Lug Studs and Lug Nuts.
Bolts are not helpful 99% of these time, it takes 5 seconds to replace a bolt and 1 minute to replace a stud, if the fact they're easily replaced is their best selling point then there's really no reason to use them
Lmao, studs are super easy to transfer over. You just have to not be stupid about it. Also, studs make aligning during a tire change super easy with no need to spin the tire to get it aligned. You don't really know what you're talking about here and that's obvious to anyone who knows a little bit about cars. Bolts are also weaker and more costly to make. If you break a stud, you bang it out and slip the new one in. Proper torque will actually set it I've done a bunch of studs over the years and have never wished they were bolts.
People that torque down to spec 🤡 People that torque down to yes 🥶🥵
