Its probably more than toon flexibility, its that his body has true ''freedom'' now. No longer restricted by the stuff it usually is. Even his heart is completely insane and yet free. The toon flexibility is just a way it shows itself. Even in his other forms part of that freedom showed itself, like being able to do stuff that makes no sense for just rubber.

That’s why during Luccis fight when he activate gear 5. His chest was expanding and contracting, it was getting his body ready for the toon force. I thinks that’s why it’s a transformation as well, because no body not even base Luffy included could handle the amount of freedom that is nika without literally becoming Nika.

@@helpme9746 I really think gear 4 is mainly focussed on busoshoku haki. Luffy basically hardens his rubber into the rubber in tires, which changes the nature of his body.

0:55 easily the best part of this transformation. Laughing maniacally while falling on the ground with haki ripping through the air.

I love these episodes so much. I expected Gear 5 for months even before I knew what One Piece really was but now that I've finally caught up it's perfect. I got no chills watching this, and didn't shed a tear. I just laughed like I was watching an old Tom and Jerry or Looney Tunes episode. I haven't laughed like a dumb kid in ages and that's exactly what Gear 5th is all about

People can hate on the animation sequence at the end of the video but to me its my favorite and im glad they showed it twice. It looks like Luffy is dancing bouncing to the rhythm of his own heart beat

I think the Gears were just Oda's way of hinting that Luffy's devil fruit wasn't a paramecia but a Zoan, cause Zoan devil fruit users typically known for having three forms, basic, beast and hybrid form, Chopper having more than seven or eight if I recall correctly. Luffy's is just four different styles of combat. ODA doing such mind-blowing story telling as always.

Luffy definitely did liberate a lot of people he came across and befriended them. Even his crew. Warrior of liberation 👏👏

And nobody’s talking about plagiarism. In JJK, Yuji only mentions the fact that he's disgusted af not to have a Rasengan, but the staff invented something else. For such a popular shonen, and compared to Naruto Shippuden, fights are fuc*in’ important, as is their evolution. Right now I feel like Oda should stop, but it's been 25 years, yep, for sure… At some point; whether it's Dragon Ball Super or OP, there's a time to stop and make way for the next gen. Kishimoto has been trying to do this (not necessarily always very well) since Boruto. The simple fact that the graphics, sound effects, chara-design and fights are the same today as they were in the first fight with Arlong is a real rip-off in OP. Seriously.

there were hints looking back. Gear three being he inflates his bones? Putting air in bone wouldn’t work like that. It should make his punches weaker. This works entirely because Luffy decided it would. He was already using the power on a small scale.

The Gum-Gum Fruit, from what I can tell, is like a fragment of the Toon Force. You eat it, you gain the powers of the Toon Force on a scale isolated to your body, but you reach Gear 5, and you can affect the world itself. Gear 5 makes you, essentially, a god of fun and freedom.

@@kagato23 not necessearly, filling his bones with air is the same principle of a truck tire, it increases mass and builds up pressure increasing overall mass and making him bigger and dense while his normal muscles and skin remain rubbery and flexible to prevent popping and exponentially increase his durability gear 3 is actually very well thought out.
