In my opinion, The Mandalorian soundtrack was the most important in Star Wars history since the first movie. John Williams is leaving the franchise, and anyone who tries to be like him is only going to fail. The Mandalorian was the first SW OST to take on its own style and run with it. It took me some adjusting but now I’m absolutely in love with this OST. I believe he’s paved the way for more unique and interesting OSTs in Star Wars films, so that composers don’t have to be tied down just trying to replicate John Williams masterpieces.

But the one thing that separates them from Ludwig is that he never used the force theme or a familiar them from star wars. The entire series music was his own, he never mixed in a Familiar Star Wars theme. That's why when hearing his theme for the First time it was so different, and it took some time to get used to because it almost didn't even feel like a star wars theme.

As a musician myself listening to the Mandalorian soundtrack this popped into my mind: The last composer who was able to unfold simplicity to such beautiful complexity was Ludwig van Beethoven. All these ornaments, all these hints, enriching and never destroying, supporting a western-style space opera, are simply wonderful. It supports the story and it's standing for itself. Funny thing is that John Williams with his incredibly creative melodies is truly the Mozart of film music. Ludwig "van" Göransson is a worthy successor.

The main theme (Guitar) is so fitting for the show, it really captivates the "Lower decks" feeling. The stakes are lower, but the personal threat is greater. BUT THEN THE ORCHESTRAL FANFARE COMES!!!! IT BLASTS LIKE A STORM! I CRY EVERY TIME I HEAR IT! IT'S SO TRIUMPHANT! And then it simmers down again, back into the shadows.

Yeah me too. We have seen Videos dedicated to Star wars Composers Explaining how they composed their music. But we never actually seen a Actual Music Video from Star Wars. The Cinematography and Editing is this video is so amazing and they even took the advantage of using the tech from the Mandolarian like the Background Screens. Star Wars really should make more Music Video. Their Expertises in making Films really helps alot in making a good Music Video.

@@prestonfernandes2071 this was clearly in the works during production, there were clips in the BTS of Mando showing Ludwig on some of these sets, now it makes sense, while the sets are up in the volume, shoot a few different takes of him performing the song and piece it together at the end! Freaking awesome to see.

@@AngeloBarovierSD sure, they might be categorized similarly, but you said it, this is the first original music video. Which is my point, I never thought I'd see them PRODUCE a music video. Those prequel montage videos are incredibly emotional and impactful, arguably more so than this, but I'm saying I never thought I'd see them produce a music video you'd end up seeing on VEVO or something. But man, this title is a horrible misrepresentation. I thought this was like an interview or something hahah.

I love how he went for his own thing, taking inspiration of people like the master Ennio Morricone instead of copying John Williams style. Almost every other composer that was tasked with creating an original Star Wars score tried to copy Williams and just ended up sounding like a downgraded version of what Williams could have composed. This theme, on the other hand, feels very original, fresh and still very appropriate for a Star Wars show. I love it.

Writing music for Star Wars has to be one of the most challenging gigs a musicican/composer can get. John Williams has written history, can I can't imagine how stressful it must be to have to walk in his tracks. Yet, Ludwig Göransson managed not only to create an amazing OST for this universe, he gave it a distinct flavor, a personal touch that completely works. It fits, while being completely different. Others have tried to emulate what John Williams was doing with some level of success (Michael Giacchino did a decent job with Rogue one, as John Powell for Solo or even Jeremy Soule with KOTOR), but they didn'T sound "personal" in my opinion. So good job on The Mandalorian, I enjoyed every minute of it! :)
