Lucy is in the wars at the moment. She went to the vets last week to be desexed. She also had a microchip inserted and all her doggy inoculations.
Lucy is a Maltese x Shihtzu. She was created by the crossing of two breeds: Maltese and Shih Tzu. Maltese Shihtzus are commonly referred to now as “designer dogs” and have become popular companions. The Maltese Shihtzu was one of the first of the designer breeds and has been around for so long that many people do not know that they are a designer breed at all.
The Maltese Shihtzu is a sturdy, well-built, and lively companion that exhibits a keen expression and friendly appearance. Maltese Shihtzus are one of Australia’s most common dogs that are recognisable by most people. The Maltese x Shih Tzu is a small dog with a long thick coat. Maltese X Shihtzus usually do not have the short muzzle and ultra short face of their Shih Tzu heritage. The Maltese Shihtzu is less prone to tear staining than the pure white Maltese.
Maltese x Shihtzus are affectionate, loving, and devoted. They should be playful, spritely, and clever. Maltese X Shihtzus do best in a home with older, considerate children and generally do well with dogs and non-canine pets. Maltese X Shihtzus are wary and suspicious of strangers and are quick to alert their family to visitors and out of the ordinary sounds.
