Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson, before his time at Tesla, was chief engineer at Jaguar and then Lotus. In his spare time he designed and built a light weight 2-seat open top sports car. Like the team he assembled, Peter is a dyed in the wool "car guy." I have been driving my Air GT for over a year now. It has been flawless and the long range is a game-changer. It can go far enough out of the city to get to the fun roads, and still have enough energy left to play. I love it.

@@EvoraGT430 Here in the UK, during WW2 we had rationing and prices of everything went up. This because we are an island nation dependent then on most freight being delivered by U-Boat vulnerable ships. However, and this is the crutch of the issue, AFTER the war ended and freight aircraft joined the party so there was no more excuse for high prices, yet businesses have to this day maintained high prices. Brits may remember the days of driving over to Germany to collect their BMWs! Several times I have gone on business to the US and bought a MacBook over there, with the saving over the UK price being about the same as the cost of the flight! Everything here is expensive, from butter to electronics to cars to houses. To afford nice things here, you either have to get into massive debt, or work rather hard and earn a nice penny. I have a Model Y LR that is fantastic, but would LOVE a Lucid Air. Saw one in person at Fully Charged Live and the interior cockpit area is an example of exemplary UX design, although I only saw it through the driver side window... The French sales guy said I could only get in it if I placed an order! I wish! :)

Lucid has a higher chance of bankruptsy and likely require major restructuring due to abysmal demand for their expensive cars (including the Gravity, and not a good design IMO). Rivian on the other hand, has the upper hand as they just need to ramp up production quickly as the demand is there. If Rivian can significantly reduce production cost like Tesla, they have a good chance to become the #2 EV automaker based out of U.S.

I'm glad Peter Rawlinson left TesIa and started Lucid. His talents wouldn't have been put to good use there. Lucid's offering a solid luxury EV that's actually designed with some ease-of-use in mind. I like it. Edit: Just an fyi. Some of us prefer having some actual buttons, air-vents you can move with your hand rather than having to use a touch screen, and a normal steering wheel... honestly those kinds of things are much appreciated. After all, I don't care about Tesla's obsession with making normal things more cumbersome to use all for the sake of hype.

The base model is $85,000. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. People always compare Lucid to Tesla, but they are in totally different markets. Tesla wants to unseat Toyota and VW as the worlds biggest. Lucid wants to sell cars to the customers who buy premium European cars today.

Indeed while we've been reading about "Tesla killers" for the past half dozen or more years, that never seemed to materialize, Lucid has positioned itself since the unveiling as wanting to go after the premium car market, not convince Tesla owners to change EVs. It made sense with Tesla having under 1% of the market. Interestingly, despite that there's a clear market for Tesla owners whose cars were relatively new when the Air was unveiled, who were sure at the time that their next car would be a Tesla, who are now looking at Lucid. What's missing from Lucid that Tesla owners notice is that Tesla is way ahead on ADAS and we've seen the "it's coming" line too many times. But the parts that are in place show what Tesla got wrong on the basic lane keeping.

The only thing I didn't care for in the review was you are comparing the performance of a 5 person luxury sedan to a 4 seater sports car on performance, not exactly a fair comparison. That's like saying the 4 seater fails in the area of comfort for all 4 passengers racing around a track. Lucid's support center is open 24/7! I've only seen 4 Lucid Airs on the road in Atlanta, GA. 2 with flat tires on the roadside, waiting for assistance, and one just this week at a Discount Tire Store in the Atlanta Suburb of Alpharetta, after a repair. The car is gorgeous. I would love to have one, one day. I love your approach to the introduction of EVs. I wonder how folks in the Caribbean are handling the idea of EVs

The Air offers kids a dream EV, after a Tesla Model S. Most low 20 years olds I know dream of an S Plaid, but for me, the interior of the Air offers something more pleasing. (Am a Tesla fan BTW and own a Y LR, that is awesome, but if I was loaded, I would have the top spec Air as the weekend car for long trips and use the Y for commuting and shlopping.)

The are heavy cars. Can’t handle potholes (not that any car can, especially with large rims and lower profile tires).

love the channel btw.. i saw this video about a month ago so i went and test drive one of the gt versions and i will say it is very nice and a ton of features but the blind spots drove me nuts and i just can't justify the price. i have a Model 3 LR now and it was about a 1/3 of the cost for it even after the upgrades i have done. the stereo that is soo great doesn't even have sub so very disappointed there and it was really laggy on the os but had very nice displays that need to be a little positioned better .. the front screen is nice but the steering wheel makes it hard to see.. over all if cheaper i would switch but the charging network is another down fall..if the range is what they say, that is a very good selling point too but i doubt it is near what they say just like my tesla

The front of that white Lucid looks exactly like the 5 gen. (T180) Toyota Celica. I mean to the point of all out thievery. But the 5th gen Celica is my favorite Celica bodystyle.

Beautiful and well engineered car. Good alternative to the niche supercars out there and the Taycans of this world. Will only ever be a small volume niche car though and if I was them I’d keep it that way and stay in that lane. Wouldn’t have a hope competing with Tesla for the volume market as they are too far ahead, but as an expensive performance car one of the best.
