Pavarotti... The greatest tenor of all...Surpasses the great Caruso...There will never be a greater tenor than Pavarotti..I am humbled to hear him sing this magnificent song: Schubert's Ave Maria...His talent will continue to touch, inspire and bless all who hear him...

There is no one else like him. Powerful, passionate, and stable. A rare jewel in the world. Too bad I was still really young before he died.

Oh the pure, lyric, resonating, metallic, young Pava voice! Little darkening at this point and the exquisiteness of his phrasing and pianissimo! The superimposing of his face above the choir, up into the ceiling of that magnificent cathedral brings tears as we are reminded that he now sings for God.

Brought me to tears. Not just this performance... The sadness that he is no longer able to share his gifts and passion with the world. Yet also, the happiness, that we can still feel his passion resonate years after his passing. This World Will Never Know A Greater Singer.

The first time I heard Luciano sing Ave Maria I literally thought that the space about me would open up & I would be transported into the highest part of heaven, for only heaven could contain the uncontrollable surge of emotions swelling up in me as I found my release coming in a torrent of tears for the honor, love, & respect Pavarotti’s rendition gave to the BVM.

When I need a good cry, I come back to Pavarotti ❤

No doubt about that. His voice will never die. He can never be replaced. The strength of his voice brings meaning to this wonderful piece of music!

I've always wondered if Luciano was a Secret Angel sent here to touch our souls thru Music. RIP Precious man

I don't think that there will ever be a better voice than the one of Lucianone - R.I.P. Grande Maestro. So pure, full of emotion and empathy. He is my voice of consolation in dark moments of my life as much as I enjoy him when I'm happy. He is just my everyday companion. Thank you is not enough for what you give me and what you have given the world. May God bless you! You're such a wonderful human being.

@@margaretsmith2570 They can do nothing but praise Lanza. There are those who are jealous that Mario didn't have to pay the price like other opera stars did but that's their problem. Nobody else had his combination of great looks to go along with great voice. He was even touted as the singing Clark Gable. And some say he Hollywoodizes arias but that's also jealousy. Some jackasses will never learn. Mario listened to many different genres, not only opera, though opera is what he respected most. He put in a feeling and emotion unmatched by any other tenor. He did great justice to all of the outstanding arias. Mario also could sing popular songs superbly and was the ultimate cross-over artist before the term was even invented. Pav sounds like a fish out of water in singing English songs. He also sings only for himself. He once did (or maybe I should say attempted) a duet with Celine (they had separate mics and Celine turned herself toward him to get his attention but he never even responded to her). And Pav was a bust in movies. Let's face it, he didn't have much in looks and often got so fat he looked like a beached whale. He also in his later years was too much of a no-show. To call Pav great is fine, but to say the best ever does terrible violence to the tenor operatic world.

Unforgetable voice. How lucky I have been to be able to live in this world at a time this man was delivering this masterpiece.

in xmas 1978 i was 3 yrs old and i'm pretty positive i was watching this with my mother, who never missed anything Pavarotti. she's passed on now but i felt her gentle love around me again while watching this........thank you

So moving.... Schubert's Ave Maria.. Beautifully sung by the best tenor of our time.. Luciano Paverotti

My grandmother was named Maria, and when she passed this was sung at her funeral mass. I consider this the most beautiful song in the world, and nobody can sing it better than Pavarotti. Thirty years later, whenever I hear him sing this, I weep.

Pavarotti's rendition of this masterpiece is exceptional and the best ever.Pavarotti's voice was at its best in the 1970s, and it lost some of its qualities (hardly discernible for a novice) while he was getting older. Enjoy this musical gem and be glad that you have this chance. There won't be a better performance than this in the next centuries...and possibly millennia, if the human kind will last that long.

Good heavens! I imagine sitting in that beautiful cathedral, hearing THAT voice reverberating throughout the church and wafting upwards toward the heavens! "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!" I feel certain God was most pleased at the "joyful noise" being created that day. Then to see Pava's wonderfully emotional face superimposed above the scene, simply breaks my heart---he was adored then and is loved and missed now and forever.

This video brings me to tears every time I see it. While the sound quality is less than spectacular, the emotion of this performance is amazing. I do believe Pavarotti got a bit teary once the chorus started singing. Had I been in the Cathedral during this performance I would have cried like a baby.

My mom bought me this on a VHS tape. Breast cancer just stole her from me. This played as I held her hand as She died and slowly gasped her last breath and went limp. I could not let go of her tiny, skinny cancer ridden hand for 3 hours. She loved Pavarotti so very much. This for me, is moms song. Rest in peace dear Mother. Until we meet again in Christ.
