Three players that Sir Alex Ferguson went after but failed to sign. Paul Gascoigne, Alan Shearer and Lucas Radebe. He went after Lucas three times. Three times Lucas said no. Sir Alex said Lucas was the best centre back in the world. And jokingly said, he wouldn’t of needed a reserve goalkeeper on match days either; so good was his goalkeeping. Leeds had three world class centre backs in the same side in those days. Radebe, Woodgate and Ferdinand. All were happy at Leeds and didn’t want to leave but director Peter Risdale’s bad financial management forced Rio Ferdinand to leave his friends and join Manchester United. Sir Alex to this day still says Lucas was always his first choice to come to the club. Thank you Lucas….

Our players were generally world class back then , after apartheid we won AFCON. I don’t know where it all went south 🤷🏽♂️ Cause our current national team underperforms.
