I agree, that line from Josh about not really having feelings for Lucas, just putting herself in Riley's shoes was bull! She liked Lucas the whole time, she stepped back until her feelings eventually came out in Texas, then when things got too messy at the Ski Lodge she stepped back again. I hope the writers are smart enough to know Riley and Lucas aren't a good match and Lucaya finally happens for real!

Lol let's be honest, maya is the only one who stepped back, I mean Riley may have stepped back in Texas, but she did it for what, 4 episodes? Maya hid her feeling during nearly 2 seasons, and when the others found out, she basically hid her feelings again in ski lodge, because of Riley and Josh's bullshit "you never liked him maya you just turned into my clone that's the only reason why you care about him!" "Maya you just wanted to make sure he is good for Riley, that's why you basically became another person and faked your own feelings without even realizing it!" And as soon as farkle told Lucas and Maya that Riley hadn't gotten over Lucas she didn't step back, she didn't really put their friendship with Lucas before her interests. I mean, Maya when Maya told her that "Lucas should decide too", she basically ignored it. It bothers me so much that Maya is such a good friend, she deserves so much better than Josh and 'someday'. To me it's obvious that Lucas and Maya both wanted to be together, but couldn't because they didn't want to hurt Riley, and I would bet anything that if there had been a 4th season Lucaya would have happened.

I still and always will think That Lucaya will be the perfect relationship. Lucas calms down Maya and he comforts her In times she really needed it. And Maya puts some flare into Lucas' life. Yea they fight but what functioning communicating relationship doesn't? I can't think of any reason why they don't belong together.

I agree, Lucas can do and say things to Maya that no one else can, she allows herself to be more vulnerable with him than pretty much everyone. He encouraged her to write her dad, he stops her from going after Farkle... and she allows it. She trusts him, which is a really big deal for her.

Lucaya is the most beautiful and developed ship in disney.Like seriously it doesn't make any sense how they ended the triangle? First maya all of sudden doesn't know who she is when the one who asks herself who she is in every third episode is RILEY but hey of course the one who has to STEP BACK the whole time has to have the 'find yourself' problem. And second ,and for me this one is the worst one-Josh. Let's be real: he was OBSERVING maya? WHEN? When he was crying over that older girl who didn't want to date him? Or when he ignored her because she was a child`? Or no wait when he was at college for the whole time except for 3-5 episodes? and in the first 3 he ignored her? He wasn't there for her.He wasn't there to see how she developed .How can HE knows what she is like,what she loves/likes and what she wants? YUp,HE CAN NOT. All he did was putting things into Maya head ,he made maya to think she never liked Lucas and just was trying to protect riley BUT IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. He was trying to protect riley,to make her get the boy-But not because he likes maya,he doesn't. All this 'someday' is ridiculous.as if he would wait for so long and has feelings for her-No he just doesn't . She said she doesn't want a good guy..But didn't she say once that josh is a good guy? YOU SEE? ALL THIS STORYLINE IS SO UNSTEADY.I know it's disney but Lucaya (also riarkle) has so much mature potential.But it has to be so disney-The main character wins and all of sudden the other 'love interesse' of the character who has to step back 24/7 so the main character gets what she wants knows ALL of her.Did the fairy godmother bibidi babidi bu's Josh's brain with informations about maya or did I miss the was there the whole time?Don't get me wrong I love the friendship betwenn Maya and rileyit's so pure BUT if you say riley treats maya as good as she does treat riley you are lying to yourself.Yes riley stepped back for few episodes-MAYA FOR 2 YEARS and in the end she stepped back again,great .And let's not forget how much riley stressed maya when she was feeling bad and confused with asking her the whole time if she still likes lucas- bay friend.I dislike Riley (except for sometimes specially scenes with farkle) but that's not the reason I see her as a bad friend for sometimes.So again: Maya stepped back again.And I still believe in Lucaya maybe the writters realize which huge mistake they made and even if Lucaya does not end up together: They are the most beautiful ship in disney and ofc in gmw.I will always ship them and hate Joshaya&Rucas.

The way Lucas looks at Riley can never be as intense and loving as the way he looks at Maya. When he is supposed to look at Riley, like when she's dancing in front of the class, and when she comes out with the Texan outfit, he still looks at Maya. Rucas's kiss can't even have half the connection in Lucaya's almost kiss. Lucaya have deep conversations together that Rucas never had. Lucas chose Riley cuz Maya told him so, cuz he cared about her.

I feel like Riley is stuck in a fairytale where she has to be with the prince or popular hot looking guy aka Lucas when in reality she's supposed to be with the nerd aka Farkle Bc they look ever other but are too afraid to go any further than

Lucas told maya he could never hurt her. Maybe he didnt want to choose her because he was afraid that if they broke up, he would hurt her and didn't want that to happen. Boyfriends and girlfriends break up and sometimes never speak again to each other, but best friends, are always there for each other.

+Aesthetic Gamer Well lets put it this way, Maya still had hope at the end of True Maya if her painting had anything to go by, but in I Do, she lost hope. What episode is between them? Ski Lodge. So something happened in Ski Lodge to make Maya into "hope is for suckers" mode again. I think you can guess what that something is. Isn't it interesting though, that she is "hopeless" for the majority of that episode, especially since it's right after Ski Lodge, where she apparently got what she "wanted": Josh. I honestly don't think she is aware that she's stepping back again. I think she really thinks, or really want to believe, that she wants Josh right now because Riley had digressed Maya's character into season 1 Maya. But since this show is told through Riley's POV, we won't know that answer until Riley becomes aware of what's happening.

When Josh told Maya she didn't actually liked Lucas she believed, but the second she looked at Lucas again she knew she really did liked him but stepped back because Riley is that important to her ;; but Lucas and Riley were never meant for each other, it's been years and I'm still sure Lucaya was meant to be, I mean, after all of this in the Christmas episode I think, Lucas went home and he didn't even told Riley and then Maya got him as a secret santa thing but then because the show was cancelled it was left at that 😣

I remember watching the first episode and when they met Lucas on the subway, I knew right there eventually Lucaya would be a thing and I still believe they are the endgame. This series deserved more seasons, screw Disney!

Lucas could never hurt Maya. However, in Girl Meets Permanent Record, he calls Riley a loser in the following conversation. L: *comes in bay window* I'm you. R: You're me? L: Yeah, I'm a loser. When Maya says he chose Riley, his smile disappears instantly because she's wrong. From day one, he has wanted her to be happy, so when she tells him to go to Riley he does, because it's what she wanted him to do. But, she only tells him to because she let Josh and Riley convince her that she only liked him because she became Riley. It's impossible to become someone else. When the girls ran off to Shawn's house and Lucas was talking to their parents, everything he said was directed not to Topanga, but to Katy. The evidence is even in the moments of physial contact. With Rucas, Riley initiates everything, but with Lucaya it's a pretty even split. Lucas and Maya are the only ones who can "contain" each other's anger. When they talk about faith, Maya takes Lucas' advice and not her "best friend's" advice. I put best friend in quotations because what kind of friend acts like that. Riley is a drama queen, always putting her problems and desires ahead of Maya's until she looks up long enough to realize that she's losing Maya. Even then, when Maya says it shouldn't be just them that decides what happens, that Lucas should get to decide, Riley ignores it and says she's taking Lucas. Part of her argument is that Lucas is her boyfriend, but last I checked, the last episode any of them went on a date was before New Year's and it was Maya and Lucas. We never actually see or hear about them breaking up. Rucas is a forced wannabe Corpanga clone, but all the real parallels are in Lucaya, even the seating arrangement in every class. And here's an added little piece of wisdom. I don't remember where it came from. If you love two people, choose the second, because if you truly loved the first, you wouldn't have fallen for the second. Lucas loved Riley first, but still fell in love with Maya, and that is why they belong together. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

Lucas and Maya. . Lucaya. They belonged together. They still do. They were like fire, a fire I could tolerate being burned alive by. Their love felt real, which is why I love these two actors, Peyton Meyer and Sabrina Carpenter.

First of all, great video!!!! :) Love it! Second, they looked great on the rooftop (15:32) in their winter coats. They just look naturally comfortable together. And thirdly, FOR ONCE, I'd like to hear Lucas' thoughts on the girls. With the jelly beans he kind of did but he also was just stating the facts. What does HE think of Maya? I wanted him to explain what it is he DOES like about her at 24:30. They never let him actually explain. I want more Lucas character development and make Zay a series regular for pete's sake.

Josh always gives her the "I'm three years older than you" speech. Before y'all start saying "BUt JoSh SaID He LiKes MaYa AnD AgReeD On DAtInG SoMEDAY" just think about everytime he was on-screen he was with flirting with other girls (e.g flirting with the tourist in 1x20) and everytime Maya saw him, she seemed upset. Josh never really paid that much attention to Maya until SL1+2 Maybe she should stick being the independent girl she is or maybe there will be no couples, maybe it'll just be Riley and Maya, as friends.

I have a huge problem with Riley. She seems so self centered, and maybe not exactly haughty or prideful, but she only focuses on herself, what she wants and how she feels. She has so much and yet she hardly ever supports her own best friend, especially when it comes to Lucas. She's supposed to be the sunshine one, who's happy and sweet if not a bit naive and clueless. But at times, like the time around 19:56, she throws Maya under the bus to say that she'll have 5 marriages, which is just so unnecessary already (since it insinuates Maya will have toxic relationships, is a whore, or whatever else), and then proceeds to control Maya's HYPOTHETICAL life by saying her marriages will never include Lucas. Yeah, she "stepped back" for Maya, but that was only for a few episodes, and she got jealous and controlling even while Lucas wasn't her boyfriend. When she finally figures out that Maya likes Lucas, she manipulated Maya into admitting it ("we're like sisters and sisters share everything. Even secrets".). Secrets can sometimes be good, and it's not unhealthy or wrong to hide secrets, especially when they're not harming anyone. Later on Riley also goes and keeps secrets from Maya, which is very hypocritical and tells me she didn't necessarily mean what she had said to Maya, and only said what she did to make Maya tell her. So after she manipulates Maya into sharing that secret, she also tells Lucas straight up about it. That's not her place to share MAYA'S secret and Riley didn't get permission to do that. If I was Maya, my trust in her would be severely broken. Also, Riley never tried to let Lucas in on the decision on who gets picked. Maya was the one who suggested it ("why shouldn't Lucas decide?"). When Riley complained about Maya not being herself, her reasons are completely bogus. ("You haven't got a detention or stood on a teacher's desk in a very long time!") Those things ARE NOT good, and Maya was finally leaving those things behind, she was maturing. and Maya was finally moving on and doing better mentally and emotionally, and not only was she staying OUT of trouble, she was actively doing better in classes too. Why should anyone try and complain about those things?? Riley accused Maya of copying her personality, but when Maya was saying "what's wrong with who I am now" and "I'm the same Maya I've always been. And you're going to have to show me a lot more than just new clothes and hair and a boy before I believe different", all Riley did was literally tune her own "best friend" out. Maya in the other hand, is a beautifully written character. I love her development, confidence, playfulness/wit, and her kindness. She was always there for her friends and supported them because she's loyal and dedicated. She never put herself in front of Riley, especially when it came to Lucas. She didn't want to hurt Riley, which is why she refused to "fight for/over" Lucas, which is what Riley had suggested. She wasn't a different person, she matured and grew. She still hated school, was witty and confident, and loved art. She just got better at school and didn't get into trouble, and got new clothes. The people who were supposed to support her, didn't. And Lucaya is definitely the superior ship. They had much better, natural and playful chemistry and saw each other's flaws, unlike Rucas (the fairytale), and accepted each other despite of those flaws. They brought out the best in each other, and seem to balance each other very well. They both keep each other "contained" (like when Maya found out Farkle was bullied, and when Lucas was going to teach Billy a lesson). They know each other's limits and their friendship progressed very naturally. When Maya was pretending to be Riley (the episode when she wore a brown wig), she realized Riley liked Lucas because he was like a brother figure to her, and Riley couldn't tell the difference between admiration and true romantic love; as soon as Maya realized that, she didn't want to be Riley anymore because she herself didnt want to see Lucas like that. And it's not true that Lucas picked Riley over Maya all the time. He picked Mayaville over Rileytown, which were later used as a metaphor for the girls' personalities (which kinda ties into the fact that lucas never really has a problem with Maya'spersonailty, unlike him having problems with Riley's- like when he said "sometimes you are just too much for me Riley"). He picked Riley first and more often because before, he didn't even know Maya was interested in him romantically. He also knew that Riley is a lot more fragile when it comes to affirmations and things of that nature. And like Maya, he didn't want to hurt Riley, so he picked her more often. Lucas often looks at Maya and compliments her and only her when he should be looking at Riley (like in girl meets Texas). There were so many little hints even in the first season that Lucaya was Endgame (maya met his family first, she noticed him in the subway first, that one clothing 'coincidence' with the extras, him picking mayaville over Rileyyown, Lucaya had CHEMISTRY class and Rucas had HISTORY class, Maya represents the bull which Lucas had succeeded with and Riley represented the lamb which he had failed on, Lucas wondering "what if he wanted to take the other one out?" and then called Maya the other one, Lucas saying "i like this little ferret" and later called Maya that, Maya calling him Bucky McBoing Boing while she called Josh Uncle Boing with only 1 boing, and legitimately so much more). I even bet that the writers DID have a lucaya endgame in mind but since the show didn't get renewed, the writers ran out of time to do more with the Lucaya dynamic. Rucas was always a fantasy. Riley practically idolized Lucas and could never see/acknowledge his faults, especially at first when she took interest in him due to his looks. They were rain, and Lucaya was fire (which start by sparks, coincidentally). Lucaya was reality, they started off as friends and learned to trust each other. They were natural and their dynamic was much more well-rounded and balanced. Their almost kiss held 10x more chemistry than all the Rucas scenes put together.

this is what i have in my mind ever since i've watched the gmw!!! thank you for pointing this out!! you are so right! Maya's character development was BEAUTIFUL. and Riley saying that maya is copying her, is a total bull and very selfish of her.. i mean, a best friend will never say those things to a best friend you consider as a sister.. and if I'm lucas, I'll fall in love with maya all the way !!! i don't agree with joshaya too, he wasn't really there for Maya.. And honestly, riarkle is more of a thing than smarkle and rucas.. oh i just love maya really! she deserves more! so much more! this is the best comment I've read so far related to GMW and lucaya. thanks you again!!

I never watched the show but from what I have seen lucas and maya had more of a connection than lucas and riley. Josh&Maya seemed great too. But Lucas and riley seemed rather random to me :/ ok i just finished the video and Maya's role moves me to tears.

I ain't throwing shade, but... Lucas finds out Riley likes him and it took a whole season to ask her out and even then she was the one thaat kissed him... Lucas finds out Maya likes him and 10 minutes later he tries to kiss her I meeean... Just saying *sips tea*

You know watching this made me realize Maya deserves someone better than Lucas. He continuously chose Riley over Maya; it actually hurts watching these two. I think he realized who he actually chose but then changed his mind when Maya told him to go to Riley. Did you see her broken smile when he left her!? How hurt she is when they had their ‘date’!? I hate that Maya’s constantly hurt. She deserves better than Lucas. Maybe it’s Josh or maybe someone else. I’ve always shipped Lucaya, but I hate how Lucas always choose Riley over Maya.

Something that pissed me off is what they did with Rucas. If you’re going to make them a couple, at least make them act like it. They did nothing to even show that they were dating. I actually felt bad for Rucas shippers.

And it ticks me off that so many Lucaya shippers jumped ship so fast to Joshaya. Like, c'mon, are you guys really that naaive? It's Lucaya. It's always been Lucaya. Their chemistry is everything compared to Joshaya. I respect all ships, but it's hard to watch people leave something so fast, when it just doesn't have well.. 26 minutes and more of pure gold!!!

Riley: upper-middle class, healthy family, good grades, well-liked, supportive best friend, knows who she is "Make your sad face" "[puppy dog face]" Maya: working class, no dad and a mostly absent mom, bad grades, Riley is all she has, doesn't know she is. "Without Riley, I may never come back." "Where did you go?" "Did you forgive yourself?" Riley: Has a crush on a boy. Her friend likes the same boy. She steps back and lets them try to be together. He finds out she still likes him and they live 🌠happily ever after🌠 Whoopdee fuckin' doo. Maya: Finds a guy that isn't hurt when she teases him, comforts her, supports her, and keeps her out of danger. Her friend called dibs, so she helps them get together. Her friend finds out she likes him. She feels uncomfortable with the guy, knowing her friend still likes him. She struggles with her identity. A guy she thinks is attractive tells her he thinks she doesn't really like the boy, it was just part of her identity crisis. She wants it to be true, so she backs off again. The guy she likes ends up with her best friend. I do not forgive this show for what it did from the field trip episode on.

I’m sorry but in the ski lodge episode Josh just ruined EVERYTHING with the whole u were protecting Riley crap. He broke them up so he can technically be with maya but then when maya asked to be boyfriend and girlfriend he said no. And said that he would play the long game. Like no josh just shut up you’ve ruined everything.

Okay is it just me or did Farkle kinda ruin an opportunity for maya and Lucas to be together, because if Farkle would have never said anything at the New Years Eve Party Riley’s feelings wouldn’t have been exposed like that and she probably would’ve stepped back for maya and Lucas but since Farkle said something he literally opened a huge door for that love triangle 🙄
